The Mandalorian Chapter Nine Spoiler Discussion (Season 2 Premiere)

What a great episode. I loved how they made the Tusken Raiders similar to Native Americans or indigenous people. I found it very uplifting that Djarin was able to broker a peace between the Mos Pelgo settlers and the Mandalorian. By the end of the episode Cobb Vanth accepted the drink he rejected and threw away earlier..
I thought exactly the same!

This was a great season premiere. I just love how spaghetti western it felt when Mando arrives at Mos Pelgo. That main street with a few houses on each side could be taken from any of Eastwood's classic Italian western flicks when he arrives to one of these towns, and even the subtle score suggested it. ...

... like killing a dragon to save a town (classic and awesome). I miss that in many of today's TV shows, old geezer as I am. I personally hope it will continue like that.

Absolutely a western crossed with the knight slaying dragon motif. Bard killing the dragon Smaug. Meets Dune.

Another slight homage we know Favreau grew up watching, 2 years before Star Wars everyone had lined up to see his pal Spielberg’s Jaws.

The town is essentially Amity, with the shark running through it leaving a wake of death, As they prep to go after it, foreshadowing the end, Brody nearly drops a compressed air tank, and Quint warns him how explosive it is, So we know it’s got to end up down the beasts throat, and blown!,
They futile try harpoons and lines it just breaks free and hunts them. Finally last stand, Brody using himself as come and get me bait, blows the tank stuffed inside it’s gullet.

This was an incredible start to the new season, even if the basic premise was super similar to the Mudhorn mission. Olyphant was perfect, as expected, and I love how they didn't try to force the armor to fit him, it legitimately looked like a man who salvaged someone else's armor. I love how they run home just how big the budget is with a full-blow Krayt Dragon.

And then that Boba reveal.... *perfection*
Temeura Morrison looks incredible. A perfect reveal, even if it was spoiled. They write Boba right this season and he could be scooping up some awards.

Well. They wasted no time diving right in, didn't they?

I can understand how this may not do much for the casual fan as it didn't drive the overall plot, but as a Star Wars nerd I fricking loved the premiere.

Good episode. Love seeing more Tuskens.

I loved how the armor looked off on Cobb. Honestly, not thrilled to see Boba back.

What's wrong if Boba is back?

I think them pointing out that the Krayt dragon's lair was an empty sarlacc pit was a hint how Boba Fett escaped. Question is though, how the Jawas ended up with it and why hasn't he come to get it back?

The way they tried to take out the Krayt dragon is supposed to be similar to how they did it in the KotoR games. Though it's been so long I've forgotten that bit myself.

Because Boba is not a great character. We get all the best bits of Boba in Din Djarin. I will admit, a lot of this is that Karen Traviss and her mando fetish killed the character and the Mandos for me. And the last thing we need is for that Mando fandboyism to return. I am more than fine with the Fetts not actually being Mandalorian, as I think that is a more interesting take on the characters.

Let's be fair. Karen Tarviss and her stupidity is no longer involved with this, and personally I love canon Boba. Even ****head little Boba who get's stuffed in boxes. :hehe:

One of the most interesting aspects of the fight with the krayt dragon for me, was how much Obi-Wan clearly taught it to fight. Once it started losing, it went straight for the high ground, and took advantage. Of course, there isn't high ground to be had against a jet pack. :o

Do you think at the end of this all, either the child will die saving the Mandalorian who decides to retire to his love interest on that farming planet? Or will Mando die saving him? I don’t think both will survive and one will probably go down

What I wonder is what happens to the child if he survives? We never hear about him long term. Makes me wonder that he dies

I just take the view that Karen Traviss and Troy Denning being terrible isn’t the fault of the characters they wrote. With Boba at least, there were some pretty great stories in the early/mid 90s novels that didn’t go full fanwank with Mandalorian superiority.

But I think, with this show they have the potential to really make Boba into a complex and layered character, much like Filoni did with Maul. It’s still early days, but just looking at Morrison’s haunted expression, I think there’s a story to be told.

At the end of the series, the child might have to choose whether or not to seek revenge for the death of his protector and friend. It would be a choice between the Jedi way and the Sith way, and he would choose, you know, this one. Those could even be his first words.

Nice epic opening to season 2, maybe not the best story and plot wise but as a Star Wars spectacle you cant complain, lots to enjoy and some characters introduced may pay off down the line anyway. You can imagine Lucas thinking along these lines when he made SW and how he was influenced by Saturday morning episodic tales like this, its like its come full circle.

Holy cow though, Boba went through some **** to get out of that Sarlacc Pit didnt he, the moment he gets his full armor back is going to be something special isnt it.

The reason Boba isn't a great character is because George Lucas ruined his backstory and the cloning nonsense.

The whole reason there are Mandalorians and Mandalore is because of Boba Fett in the first place. And then they changed it so he isn't Mandalorian at all.

"The child will die? Hope not.
My end hope - they finally find the Yoby's "kind" (that is Yoda's supposed mysterious world and species) and just as we are about to see it, (or the home of fledgling Luke's academy). ....as the audience are left wondering in anticipation
...We here the echo of the Armorer voice- you are a clan of two.
Mando suddenly spins the ship around, removes his helmet and lowers it onto the Yoby, who flicks a switch as they hyper jumps in the other direction. .... "wherever I go he goes",LOL! :oldrazz:

You mean the backstory with half a dozen different origins? And frankly, Lucas did more damage to the character in the Clone Wars than he did in AOTC.

You will have to pardon me if Luke thinking "What would Boba do" has soured me on any potential of the character. And I do want to point out that Denning is the fault of that, but Traviss. You could literally see their disagreements in the pages of their respective books of LOTF.

I think Boba being a clone could actually pay off wonderfully if the show explores how Boba dealt with being a clone and how it influenced him and impacted his life and psyche as he got older.

Ideally I'd like for his arc in the show to end with him becoming a true mandalorian and choosing to live by the Mandalorian creed. Id like for Boba to find in Din Djarin the brotherhood that he was deprived of in his youth.

I haven't read the Traviss books so I'm not too clear on that. Basically, it sounds like the EU Gary Stu'ed Boba. Either way, I still don't like what Lucas wrote for him Episode 2 and Clone Wars.
