Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos

This is already on sale for Black Friday at Best Buy (US and Canada).

$29.99 and $44.99, respectively.

They have small background similarities to the movies, but they are 95% their comic counterparts.

I'm only in Chapter 4 but I'm not seeing this huge difference. It just feels more like the actors are doing a really good imitation of the MCU versions while adding their own little quirks and character bits. Really loving the game so far.

Probably my favorite moment so far was in Chapter 6 when you can go talk to Drax on the observation deck. I admit I got a little choked up.

Is there any chance of a sequel for this or were the sales not good enough?

It might be too early to tell regarding sales but I also have a feeling that this wasn't terribly expensive to make outside of the song licensing so in theory, it could break even and get a sequel. Something else that might have kept the budget low was that the voice cast for GOTG is made up of unknowns compared to Avengers, which was basically a murderer's row of the most high profile VO actors in the industry.

Oh good to know, thanks.

Also, positive word of mouth is only going to help this game. Even if it were to underperform in the long run, Guardians of the Galaxy has become a tried and true IP thanks largely to the MCU, so a sequel getting greenlit wouldn't be the riskiest move.

Everyone I know who has played it has liked it so far, some who like the films and some who aren’t as into them. Anecdotal obviously but feels like a good sign.

Yeah, this game is just a good time. I'm only on Chapter 5 but the gameplay has been fun and the dialogue is on point.

I just got the game and on Chapter 5 too. So far Im enjoying it but I dont like Star Lord's gameplay. The blasters are boring. I like how they incorporated attacks from the other Guardians but I wish I could play as them. I think Gamora's style having the potential to be more fun

I beat the game last night. Having a fully upgraded team by the last couple of chapters kept the combat from getting too repetitive. While I did feel like the last third or so dragged on a bit (this game has some long cutscenes after all), it was still a lot of fun and definitely one of the better Marvel games out there.

Good to hear. I don’t mind cutscenes so fine with me.

If we get another game and we still only play as Star Lord, I really hope they carry over all the team abilities and have them unlocked from the start, having all abilities available for everyone at the end worked wonders for making the combat more fun.

I was gifted this one for Christmas this year, and I'm happy to join the chorus in being wrong about this one. It's really good so far. Not finished yet, still got some chapters to go, but I've really enjoyed it so far. The characters are great, the story's interesting, which I think are the two things they reaily needed to nail down. A loooot of technical issues on mine though, from a ton of frame rate dropping to audio over the comms not playing and skins resetting among other things. But at the end of the day, it's not like it's stopped me from playing. Just hope if they do a sequel that it gets that extra coat of paint, especially after they made my favourite of the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy.

It says a lot about the state of AAA game development that selling 4 million copies is a disappointment in Squeenix's eyes.

Feels like Square would be better off selling their Western division as they are never going to meet the ridiculous expectations, and it isn’t healthy continuously dragging them for it. That could be better for all parties.

I kind of figured that sales wouldn't have been that great given the response to Square's Avengers but it's a shame because this game is so much better. I hope that this doesn't completely rule out a sequel just yet.

Japanese publishers are ridiculous. They act like it's still 1998.

Surely the expectations were too high. 4 million copies sold is pretty good I thought?

SE always complains about sales. That said, this coming in low is 100% their fault. The Avengers game was terrible and the advertising for this game was horrid. I gave it a chance after watching reviews and getting a free month of Gamefly. And only then did my brother and best friend give it a chance. By that point, it was ridiculously cheap. We bought a copy to keep for $25 on Black Friday.
