House of the Dragon House of the Dragon General Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

Disasspointed they didnt do a nice title sequence. HBO tends to excel at those.
Maybe they skipped it just for the opener, until we get introduced to everyone. I do agree with you, though.

It was...fine. From a production standpoint and listening to the score, it's stellar. What you'd expect from the series and easily better than anything from Seasons 7 and 8, but that's a low bar to surpass. I'm intrigued, I'll say that, but the direct name drop of "A song of ice and fire" is about as on-the-nose as Sam using that as the name of the book in "The Iron Throne."

I have to say I really loved this premiere. I'm not even the biggest GOT fans either because I pretty much binged it all when it was already over, but so far, I'm definitely hooked.

Loving the twisted, dark GOT esque family drama and if this first episode is anything to go by than Matt Smith is easily going to be the MVP of this show for me.

Prince Daemon Targaryen is my favorite character so far.

Caught the Kick Ass Season Premiere of ,Succession, tonight.
Going With Dragons for Season 4 was , A BOLD CHOICE!

I liked it, interested to see where it's going since I'm not all that up to speed with the Westeros lore before Robert's Rebellion. Whatever I've read about it was years ago and I've definitely forgotten so I'm not about to look it up to keep a little surprise for the show.

My only disappointment was there was no title sequence, especially being a spinoff of what maybe had the best title sequence of any HBO show, and that's no small feat to accomplish. I'm hoping that turns up in the second episode.

A title sequence could premiere next week.
They might have skipped this week, To Hit the Ground Running.

Yeah, I'm just going to keep calling him Vigo.

Really like the new dragon designs.

Its a good start. I really liked Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra. I will be sad to see them go when they switch actors. The rest of the cast is great as well. Still GOT, with all the sex and violence and gore that goes with it. Got some good incest vibes from Vigo with Rhaenyra. Wonderful creepy feeling when Otto Hightower sent his daughter to seduce the king. The tournament was fun. I lol'ed when it turned to violence.

Also, entertaining wig game. A+

Was tripping your opponents horse allowed in jousting?

So I guess we just gonna keep it to this post? lol.

I enjoyed it, definitely shows promise. The dragons didnt look as good as they did on GoT which was weird since if anything..we should be getting a step up but that Iron Throne looked great.

More dragons and larger scale means the budget will need to stretch farther.

Plus I think there is a crunch in the vfx industry right now which could be contributing to some jank in cgi. I know its effecting She-Hulk.

House of The Dragon had a decent first episode. I don't mind the tale of the Dance of The Dragons. I'd still prefer a story set during the Age of Heroes about The Long Night, personally speaking. I'm sick to DEATH of Matt Smith, but I have to tolerate him (along with Benedict Cumberbun) i guess. So far the first episode is good. So that takes the bitterness out lol. We'll see if it holds tho.

"The Prince that was Promised"...

Can't help but immediately think about how meaningless that prophecy is thanks to GOT Season 8. If they are going to include it so prominently in this show they really need to use the Jon Snow sequel show to restore Jon's birthright, restore the Targaryans, and right the wrongs D&D committed.

I didn't care about Jon that much if I'm tbh lol. I thought he was hella generic. I'd rather get a Arya spinoff, or at least as I said before a Age of Heroes show.

So, I am curious how many bad naming decisions this series will generate

Decent 1st episode, but nothing wowing for me overall in it. Probably going to take me a while to get invested like probably by the last few episodes of the season.

GOT ep 1 had more fun and charm in it that grabbed me. This was kind of straight forward little to no humor.

The show needs a disclaimer.

"If you are considering naming your child after a Targaryen just ask the parents of children named Daenerys how well that worked out for them and their child.

Enjoy the show!"
