Ms. Marvel Marvel Studios' Ms. Marvel General Discussion Thread

I just finished Ms. Marvel.

Pros:

90% of the depictions of Pakistanis/Indians/Middle Eastern/Muslim folks were respectful and mostly accurate. As the first "Desi" show/movie of the MCU, I'm glad that Feige/upper management hired many Pakistani/Indian/ME cast/crew. It could have gone very badly in untrained hands. Bravo Marvel!

Iman as Kamala is very charming/goofy/ and fun. I liked all the supporting cast too.

The use of animated drawings and bright color in the show and credits was great. Also, using "desi" music throughout was something I never thought I'd hear in a MCU production.

Tying her story to the 1947 partition of India/Pakistan was a cool idea and heightened the emotional aspects. Truth be told, WW2 is a main real world event that is used a lot, so its neat that something Western folks may know less about is featured.

Cons:

It was very rushed. OF all the D+ shows of the last 1-2 years, this one NEEDED to be 8-10 hourlong eps minimum. The mom goes from being mad at her disappearances/actions in eps 1-3 to encouraging her to become a vigilante by ep 6.The brother doesn't seem to have much anger about the wedding disruption lol.
Nakia finds out the truth and oops lets run to Pakistan lol. A very abrupt change that I know was necessitated for plot reasons.

Having both Damage control and the Clandestine as villains was too much for the limited time. The clandestine should have been the sole villains and more background info and intrigue should have been added.

Most people wont really care, but I hate how they mispronounce Kamala's name in the whole show. In India, the name is generally a Hindu woman's name and is supposed to be pronounced like the American VP's name.
I'm guessing the comic writers went with that name to keep the alliterative nature that many other Marvel characters have (Peter Parker, Reed Richards etc)
The name is unlikely to be used as a Muslim woman's name.

Overall: 8/10

Probably my second favorite Disney Plus MCU after Wandavision and one of the few Id like to see a second season of.

As I've said with previous Disney + MCU shows, i feel they get better with each show.

I really enjoyed this show. It was the one MCU show I think I did let much of the prerelease bad buzz I did see get to me, but I'm glad it didn't affect my perception of the show as I viewed.

Really enjoyed the series.

I really can’t wait to see her again. The Marvels is gonna rock.

Finally binged the show.

The good: the family. The dad and the brother are probably my favorite characters. Bruno is really cool too (I read the actor was up for Spider-Man and I could honestly see him as that too). Honestly all the supporting the characters were great. Nakia was awesome. The mom reminded me of my mom. Iman was of course the standout. Not only is she a real fan of the character and Marvel in general, but she can act too!

The bad: the villains. I didn’t care for the Jinn or whatever they’re called. I didn’t care for that main bad guy or his mom. I just felt it was pretty inconsequential in the grand scheme of the MCU.

Overall I would probably rate the show in the middle. It wasn’t my favorite Phase IV thing but I didn’t hate it either. The tone was pretty light compared to other MCU things (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I do prefer on the more serious side). I feel like if I was a teenager I would enjoy this more.

Yeah, I think most seem to agree the family was a very strong part of the show while the villains were an utter waste of space.

I hope the family pops up in The Marvels. Is this a limited series or will there be a season 2? It would be a waste to let all the supporting characters go like Bruno and Nakia.

I certainly expect the family to appear in The Marvels given the final episode credit scene/ending (can't remember which it was). Also I 'm expecting another season at least. I think they are going to push Ms Marvel hard for the future and her supporting characters are important.

And makes the handling of Zoe even more egregious.

This was always one of the most obvious choices to be an ongoing show. Hopefully for Season Two they come to their senses and ditch the "6 hour movie" thing. Let Kamala have a REAL tv show.
