The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread

Murphy is an underwhelming but unsurprising choice. The needle drops will probably be the musical highlights here as per usual on a Gunn film, and I’m good with that. That notion alone will feel fresh for a Supes flick.

Worth mentioning that the main person Gunn's collaborated with on his last few movies has been John Murphy

Y'know

The same guy who composed this

We might be on for the best Superman theme of all time here and I do not say that lightly considering the very obvious top of the competition

I'mma just leave this here :funny:

I'm all for John Murphy if it's him at his A Game. This isn't the first time a well regarded composer has coasted through the last few soundtracks only to come out with a genuine banger. Giacchino himself did exactly that, with The Batman

Here's hoping Murphy joins him

If I were John Murphy knowing the superman scores that have big put to the big screen before me, I'd compose the best score of my career because it could cement my legacy.

I will just apologize in advance to everyone here for how insufferable I will be during that period. You all may have seen me hyped for things before, but it’s been…quite a while since I’ve been able to get hyped for Supes film. There is like a powerful Hype Demon that tends to take over my body when this happens. Can’t be controlled. :funny:

If Brainiac is indeed the main villain, has a superhero movie ever went this long without announcing its antagonist?

From what I can tell, the villain is usually one of the first roles to be announced.

There's gotta be a set photo thread when they start filming, surely.
As long as we actually GET set photos! I remember considering starting one for The Marvels only to discover it did all its filming on soundstages lol.

They gotta announce who's playing Perry, the Kents and (maybe) Brainiac this month, right?

Right?
I still don’t expect him to be the “main” villain like the guy who they’re up against the whole time and is present throughout. I totally expect him as a 3rd act reveal type of deal. Like Lex and the other supers might seem like the main points of conflict for most of the movie, til it’s discovered Brainiac was pulling the strings the whole time or something. So in that instance, the actor can be cast - or announced - quite late, and if they’re trying to keep him under wraps, maybe even not at all. Like Marion Cotillard was never actually announced as Talia Al Ghul or even as a villain at all in TDKR, for example. But she was announced to be in the movie, and I suspect if Brainiac is in, we’ll get the announcement of the actor if not the character before production is done.

EDIT: Just remembered - we never got an official announcement for that rando who played Darkseid in JL either lol. Hopefully Brainiac would not be a rando. :hehe:

I am basically kinda expecting the “Nolan way,” where we’d have our officially-announced villain (Lex in this case) followed by a a 3rd act “secret villain” reveal (Liam/Ra’s in BB, Two-Face in TDK, Talia in TDKR). In all those instances, the actor was indeed announced, but in 2 of them, the character they were said to be playing was a fake-out, and in the other, any hint of Harvey actually becoming Two-Face in that flick was kept under wraps.

So going off those examples, as we know we still have several casting announcements we’re waiting on, anyone who’s not said to be Perry White, Cat Grant, the Kents, the Els or Steve Lombard is going on my Brainiac Suspects List! And Steve Lombard will probably go on it anyway too. :hehe:

Wasn't around for TDK, did people thought that Harvey would only become Two-Face on the 3rd movie before the release?

It was the common fan theory. Egged on by Goyer, bizarrely, publicly stating his planned outline for the trilogy in which that would happen in film three after BB came out.

Yep. It wasn’t until set spies reported them shooting that scene in the diner that people started getting wind that Two-Face might happen in that movie. I remember vividly because I was in Chicago stalking the set at the time, and I saw Eckhart go into that diner with a towel over his head and didn’t realize who he was. Wasn’t til I got home that night and got online where people were talking about it that I realized who I saw. Good times!

Will you be stalking Atlanta too?
