Alien: Romulus (2024)

He sure is the master of unearned, salacious sexual violence! What a great choice for a movie franchise that is fundamentally a sexual horror story - I'm sure he'll handle it with intelligence and sensitivity!

Thank God the Noah Hawley series is actually happening. Hawley's writing is imperfect but at least he is capable of good work that displays more than a singular brain cell.

Alien is a property I love....but burned by too much recently. So I gotta see positive reviews before I get excited. Decent teaser, but Prometheus had great trailers too

*****ing about CGI Facehuggers is pretty amusing if you ask me. Rewatching Alien and Aliens, the practical ones always looked too funny to me.

Anyway this definitely LOOKS and FEELS like Alien, seeing a proto Pulse Rifle makes my heart sing. I hope it blends the best aspects of the first two movies.

I wouldn't consider Scott liking this movie a positive thing. :funny:
But Cameron liking this as well, piques my interest.
Didn't Cameron like Terminator Dark Fate? Doesn't do much for me either lol

I think he clarified later that he said that as a courtesy to Arnold being involved. And yeah, maybe he's just being polite again, but my point is not their general taste per se, but specifically their idea of what an Alien movie should or should not be. And for me Scott pretty much lost any credit regarding that.

Absolutely Scott has. But while I enjoy AvP on a so bad it's good kind of level, the Alien franchise hasn't done anything really good since Aliens. Alien and Aliens are on my short list of favorite movies ever. But it's been a decline essentially since to the point where I just...gotta see the baby first before this series can do anything for me. Prey was able to do it for Predator, so maybe this can too. But I wasn't excited for Prey until the strong reviews. Several franchises have hit the "I gotta see it to believe it" point after many bad entries

For me, though, Prey went to something conceptually engaging, so while I wasn't necessarily expecting much because of how much of a decline the Predator franchise had gone to, it still piqued my interest from the get go.

There's nothing in Romulus that has done the same to me so far, other than my love for the genre and my hope to one day see a solid Alien sequel. Also I found Trachtenberg's previous work much better than Alvarez's so that's not helping either.

Can't be worse than Covenant... Right?

Yeah seeing an early design for the Pulse Rifle was indeed extremely cool. Aliens is probably my favourite movie ever, so they got my ticket there and then.
