Wonder Woman 1984 General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

After seeing some of the discourse on this film, I really hope Patty doubles down on the "No sword and shield" for WW3.

Those weapons are nowhere near as integral to the character as some are pretending it is.

I don't think they're integral either, though I think they were so apart of the iconic imagery of the first film, that alot people wanted to see them again for WW84.

She also used them in BvS, so, in alot of people's minds, they feel they're as apart of her character as the lasso is. I don't think WW needs them but, I think in alot of people's minds, Gal's WW doesn't look right without the sword and shield.

Does Jenkins have a "no sword and shield" policy? I genuinely don't know so I'm just asking.

She had one for WW84 but I dont think she is necessarily against them in general. I think Diana should have them for big battles but not carry around 24/7 even though its nice imagery.

I'd say Hell to the no to that suggestion.

Imagine all her exes who had to get over her. Yeah... probably didn't turn out to well for them..

Gal is safe, but they're certainly going for a different approach next time around.
It took a while... but... It Has Begun!

No making of book or novelization for this film?

Even the physical soundtrack is a nightmare to track down.

i thought BoP was bad. i get that its meant to be a fun ride but it felt flat for me. the acting was good and i fell like there is a better movie in there somewhere. it didnt need to be R rated imo

What I find most upsetting about the film is the missed opportunity for the character and DC as a whole to really become red hot.All the elements were there, a tough year about to end, the election being over, and people wanting to root for something again. There really was an opportunity I think to make WW the #1 film superhero character today. It's so rare to not just have a good film, but have circumstances surrounding it that would just propel it to new heights.

The movie had a positive message, that is "people should not choose shortcuts to fulfill their dreams and get lured by false promises".

But many got angry, maybe they wanted a feel good film with great fight scenes and excellent CGI.

is it just me or is there really something to that image? i dont understand the praise he is giving.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't get what the guy is saying. The two things I can come up with are: it's just a plug to try and get people to watch the movie again or he's commenting on how graceful Gal looks is the wire/harness system. Even saying that I still feel like I'm missing something.

I think he's saying that even though the illusion of 'movie magic' is shattered through the obvious wires, she's still got that larger than life 'Wonder Woman' shine to her.

I dunno lol.

Half the time I don't know what that dude is talking about. I like that most of the tweets I see of him are positive...not for confirmation bias but because it is nice to have everything be clickbait about these films and he seems genuine.

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has revealed that she wanted an improved and feminine fighting style for the titular superhero for which she drew inspiration from Cirque du Soleil performers.

The director said the team was “mindful” that as the film’s villain, Cheetah/ Barbara Minerva (played by Kristen Wiig) is a woman, they shouldn’t end up fighting like men.

“Men fight like men. We were mindful of that. I don’t want to be trying to look like a man. We need to fight like women,” Jenkins told the Empire magazine.

Gadot said they didn’t know how to go about the combat scenes till she and Jenkins watched Cirque du Soleil, a Montreal-based entertainment company and the largest contemporary circus producer in the world.

“(Cirque Du Soleil) was beautiful. And then Patty said ‘This should be the inspiration for the fight sequences. I looked over at her like ‘How do I do that?!’ She said ‘Don’t worry, you never know how you do it until you do it’,” the actor said.

Reading old quotes and articles from 2019 and it is easy to see why the action in WW84 is so atrociously bad and full of wire work.

"We need to fight like women"

I don't even know what this means. Perhaps someone needs to show Patty a women's UFC fight.

Yeah, and her father was in Airforce ? So, maybe she's referring to how Wonder Woman (in older comics) used to fight in a non-lethal way.

That image is taken between the various takes (directors usually film a scene multiple times from different angles) and since Gal is on wires (not her stunt double) she's in character even though the camera was not rolling (shooting).

In other words, she's looking like WW and not as Gal Gadot in WW costume.
