This was the first time Ive seen a major film like this start with a recap of the last one, and honestly it was a horrible way to start the film out. Showing Hank and Janet in the past was fine, but having him narrate it to his daughter was a terrible decision. It completely stalls the narrative when it should be starting up and getting you hooked. Could they not figure out a better way to remind people about Hopes lost mother?
Scotts the odd man out. Everyone else is acting there heart out, while hes obviously in a comedy and hamming it up. Not a single genuine reaction from him in the entire movie. With him most likely having a big part to play in Avengers 4, this is kind of worrying.
New characters arent fleshed out enough to empathize with. Every time theres something that needs explaining or background, the movie always tells instead of shows. Fishburne and Pfieffer are wasted, and Ghosts reversal is too sudden given the extremes she was willing to go to just a few minutes before. Also, her costume sucked.
None of the actions scenes felt special, or showed ingenuity like the first film. Almost all of it
Also didnt like that the plot basically boiled down to hot potato with the lab. If you take that out, the film would be under thirty minutes. And the dusting has lost any emotional impact it mightve had when they continue to kill characters you know have no chance of staying dead.
Other than that the film overall was less disappointing than the last one (I dont think Ill ever be able to watch that it and not think about Edgar Wright and what couldve been). Still enjoy what Christophe Beck does with the score, and the CGI looked more polished than most MCU films (aside from the de-aging, which somehow looked worse than the previous movie). Douglas and Lilly are great in their roles, and its nice to see a superhero actually have a family life.
Id give it a 5/10, but theres nothing wrong with that score to me. It was a decent time at the movies, but I doubt Ill ever watch it again.
