It's replacing Russian and Ukrainian oil that's off the market (supply) so the climate impact shouldn't be worse than if the increases in OPEC and in the U.S. did not happen.

What we really have to do is drive demand down for oil and oil products.

That's part of what's driven up prices - high demand (COVID19 restrictions mostly gone) and lower supply.

We talk a lot about electric cars but the next step is electric planes and stuff like that would take a big bite out of oil demand if widely common.

Plus, if we dont overhaul our electricity production methods we'll be creating more pollution and climate change when we start using more electricity.

Theres so many things right now that need to be fixed right now, but he wants to focus on charging stations for cars we can't afford. Idiot.

Bringing the demand for gasoline down is also how you bring prices down, and the president is doing everything in his limited power to do so from releasing a million barrels of oil a day of the strategic reserve, getting other countries to have done the same to their reserves, to cajoling the Saudis to pump more oil for the world, and domestic oil production is also up since he came into office. But the disappearance of Russian energy from the market coupled with high demand post-COVID lockdowns in most of the world outside of China drives prices up. Oil is a global commodity.

Domestic oil production since January/February 2021 is up (as is exports), but hasn’t returned to prepandemic levels yet. With less supply the more valuable something is (just like labor shortages are good for workers’ earnings) and the oil companies are reaping this for all it’s worth even more now with Russian sources gone.

Countries with intertwined economies will rise or fall together with the global inflation trend brought on by China’s lockdowns and resulting supply issues, Russia’s war spiking energy prices, and economic growth (economic growth also creates inflation and the U.S. and other countries have had that coming out of the 2020 recessions.)

Typically, higher inflation is caused by strong economic growth. If Aggregate Demand (AD) in an economy expands faster than aggregate supply, we would expect to see a higher inflation rate. If demand is rising faster than supply this suggests that economic growth is higher than the long run sustainable rate of growth
