NATALIE PORTMAN is Thor!

One of the comic writers recently said "They didn't know what to do with Thor so they turned him into Volstagg"
and that, sadly, rings very true

I would say Fat Thor is closer to Fat Balder in the comics than Volstagg. During Simonson's run, the Brave One put on a considerable amount of girth due to depression over seeing his fallen enemies in Hel. Volstagg is usually depicted as mentally stable family man rather than a depressed warrior.

I think he just mostly meant the "fat jocular one who consumes too much food and drink" lol

Don't take a popular character, do a gender change, and think it's just business as usual.
Thor's gender is not being changed... Jane Foster is temporarily going to become the wielder of Mjolnir. And I'm willing to beT someone else's ass that Jane will only be called Thor as a joke.

Not to belabor the point (too late!), but I see Tubby Thor as more of a mess than the life of the party. And I loved what the Russos did with the character. I saw it as a more accurate depiction of a PTSD sufferer than was depicted on screen in a certain other superhero flick.

This could turn out to be a disaster. I will first preface that I'm not a comedy guy. With that said, the first time I saw Ragnorock it infuriated me.

Friends dead - No reaction
Odin dead - Angry line said to Loki but anger quickly goes away
Entire freaking home is blown to smithereens and someone cracks a joke
I was actually angry when the credits rolled. I am glad I gave the movie another chance with the mindset it is a comedy.

This movie looks like it is going to adapt the female Thor storyline where Jane has cancer. Is a subject matter as serious as that going to played off for laughs? I'm very nervous. I just have to keep telling myself TW is a comedy director and I have to brace myself for jokes.

Ragnarok has a lot of humor but I think it does the emotional stuff better than some seem to think. For example, there isn't just an angry line regarding Odin, Thor also says a prayer over his death and Thor's perception over that it's Loki's fault causes him to finally give up on his brother. I think it hits some things very well without wallowing in it in any way, and personally I think the balance mostly works great in injecting some emotional bits in what's meant to be a crazy and fun space adventure. Unless I've forgotten something I think the only thing I would change is to have Korg be in stunned silence after Asgard explodes, otherwise I have no issues with the dynamic between feelings. But I understand why some others have issues with it.

Picked the right time to back out of the MCU.

It's become a joke lol. This is downright silly. Will Thor even be Thor?

Not looking forward to this at all. Hopefully Taika pulls it off but I do really want to see Thor be Thor again like he was in Infinity War. I still feel the strongest acting and characterization of Thor, Odin and Loki was under Kenneth Branagh’s direction. I really really hoped they would have retained him for Thor 2 as well

The problem is we've already seen 'unworthy' Thor in Thor 1. So if Thor becomes unworthy again so Jane can have the hammer they are retreading old ground. Unworthy Thor and The Mighty Thor (female Thor) are some of the best Thor stories I've ever read. They are up there with Walt Simonson's run, my all-time favorite Thor run (Sorry Stan and Jack). I think these stories are going to be butchered especially with squeezing Valkerie into the mix.

Thor won't be unworthy. Endgame already showed us that fat Thor is still worthy. Actually, his tremendous feelings of regret over his failure might be why he is still worthy, since Thor's arrogence in the first movie seemed to have been one of the factors for why he wasn't worthy back then.

Same. My favourite Thor depictions have been in Infinity War, Age of Ultron and Thor 1 + 2. That is Thor, god of thunder in all his might and glory. I really disliked what Russos did with him in Endgame; his depression angle doesn't work at all if hes sobbing like a little girl which is so obviously meant to play for laughs.

I don't look forward to seeing him still be wimpy fat comedian in Thor 4. Just give him back his long hair, ripped body and masculine demeanor for gods sake and let the guy be THOR

I'm not too worried if i'm being honest. I trust Taika to deliver something great and entertaining.
I'll remain optimistic.

I hope they go all out for the Jane foster into the mighty Thor transformation sequence. Make it full magical girl genre/sailor moon ish epicness

We’ve seen other characters lifting/ wielding Mjolnir or Stormbreaker but we have never seen a magical transformation of a character into a Thor-like version. That should be some awesome stuff to witness.

Maybe it’s because of them rebuilding Mjolnir and essentially making it a new hammer. Hence the new Mjolnir finding worthiness in someone else and transforming Jane into a version of Thor.

Cool stuff.

So she would go back to being a regular human when she is not wielding the hammer? I’d be fine with that. I’d like to see her get more Thor-like in appearance when she does wield it.

Hogun Actor Tadanobu Asano Reacts to Natalie Portman As Thor
“I’m only speculating, but a female Thor could give birth, right? (Current Thor star) Chris Hemsworth can’t do that, but Natalie Portman could, which opens up new possibilities – Thor could actually have a child! I think Natalie Portman as Thor will be a positive thing not only for Marvel fans, but for all of us.”
I didn't really thought about it but that could be a very interesting angle.
What if Thor and Jane Foster had a baby... In the comics at some point Old King Thor had a son and then 3 granddaughters. So a new family line could be in the cards here.

I'm happy because Natalie Portman is happy

that seems like a pretty random train of thought
"What do I want to see from the new, Female Goddess of Thunder? Oooooh maybe she has a baby!"
Seems a little regressive, isn't it?

Plus if she has cancer I'm sure that's a bit far from her mind

It's random... you're right. But in a way it's an interesting idea to progress the character development and story.
Regressive only if you take it at face value. It could be an interesting approach for the future... to have Thor become a father at some point. Just a thought though.

The cancer angle is plenty already for sure.
The idea of the asgardian royal family having more descendants is just something of an afterthought really but an interesting one at that since Thor is the last family member remaining. Also Thor himself in the comics was the offspring of Odin and Gaea an earth goddess so that could be molded into Thor's offspring in the MCU for example. Just keeping an open mind to fresh new ideas and angles. :)

A scene similar to this with Jane Foster Thor eventually turning back to her human self and standing face to face with Mangog would perfectly mirror what happen in the first Thor. I would have her with that sick look because of the kemo treatment, stand there with an unwavering stance even in the face of death, with no powers, nothing... just herself facing her future without fear or hesitation.

Not feeling this at all but I loved Ragnorok so I'll wait and see
K. Dennings making noise she wants to come back hey she's great to look at but she was easily the worst part of the first 2 thor movies keep her away

overall not to jazzed up about phase 4 only for BP2 and G3 everything else meh

I just got my mind blown on Twitter.
Someone wondered, what if Jane Foster broke up with Thor because she knew she had cancer and didn’t want Thor to suffer.

And now I add my 2 cents. What if the cancer is indeed because of her being possessed by the Aether...
