Moon Knight Marvel Studios' Moon Knight General Discussion Thread

Cohen's one of the leads of the new Aaron Sorkin film, so he's definitely got chops if he's good enough for Sorkin

He definitely will be a good actor, but if you keep him 10 years in the MCU he‘ll be almost 60. And other then Mahersala Ali he looks like his age.

I was wondering about the way DID will be portrayed in this series. Pop culture tends to portray specific mental disorders in ways that are
1. inaccurate to the real world (both the actual disorder and the language and experiences associated with it)
2. Offensive to those who live with them.

I have never read Moon Knight and I'm certainly no expert on DID, but the character at a glance seems to avoid the largest pitfalls. The disorder is not played as a joke nor is there an evil killer alter like with Split's Beast or Typhoid Mary. The relationship between the DID and supernatural elements has changed with different writers. For the MCU I definitely think it would be wise to have Moon Knight be a character who developed DID first and have anything with Khonshu be later and unrelated, as to not imply that the real DID is some kind of "mystical" or "fantasy" element. I think it should be made clear that any supernatural stuff is real and not to rely much or at all on a "He's crazy! He's an unreliable narrator! Maybe it's all in his head!" narrative. I also think it would be good to use language that real people with the disorder use in the modern day. For example referring to Marc, Jake and Steven as "alters" with Marc being the "host", rather than Marc being a person who has Jake and Steven as his "multiple personalities".

Thoughts?

The MPD/DID thing could be a minefield but this an MCU project in full. No Netflix or Marvel TV type deal. So... I think we are wait and see with how delicate they will handle that aspect. Because I'm sorry but... Marve Studios LOVES it's humor. And there's lots of cheap "laughs" to be made off of the multiple personality side of the character, rightly or wrongly.

I hope I'm wrong about that.

As for whether this should be a part of Spector's character before his origin story in Egypt... That does make sense I suppose, and as noted above, makes something concrete that in the comics has been often hazy and negotiable by the various writers over the years. I definitely see where the best thing to do is to commit to one or the other for the audience's sake. Either he's dealing with mental issues and the Khonshu stuff is all in his head or in fact the mystical elements are real in universe. I totally get that would be setting distinct parameters for us watching to latch onto.

That said... I also understand that Moon Knight is a very off the beaten path type of character and property. His mental state, his connection to reality and his own "alters", the living multiple lives and us being thrown off balance in seeing his stories play out not knowing what's true or not... That could be done very well and make for a distinctive super hero show.

I wouldn't want Moon Knight to be hanging with the Avengers. Sure, he's been a member but I never saw him as a fit for that kind of team.

Now, teaming Moon Knight with Blade or Dr. Strange and I can see it easier.
Agreed, much better fit.

Why is Moon Knight getting involved Doctor Strange easier than the Avengers?

From multiple angles in my view things line up more between those than the standing in the sunlight, hands on their hips modern day Knights of the round table that is the Avengers.

Moonie has the supernatural connection via Khonshu. He has a history as a Werewolf hunter, at leas initially, the darker tones inherent in the characters stories, again, different from the Captain Marvels and Black Panthers... I think that Strange teaming with Moonie makes a lot more sense than say, him joining the Avengers and taking orders from like Carol Danvers and paling around with Thor.

Moonie's always been a weird one. One foot in the costumed urban vigilante world and another in the vaguely mystical and supernatural world.

Lior Raz from Fauda might make an interesting Moon Knight

not a posterboy for marketing activities, imho

Sacha Baron Cohen could indeed be incredible, but I don't see Marvel casting that old. The Oliver Jackson Cohen casting is pretty great, though I'm reluctant to let go of my hopes for him being a Targ in House of the Dragon. One other name I'd toss in the mix:

Morgan Spector - Jewish, Very good at playing gritty, noir-type characters, His name is already Spector

Last year there were those rumors about, that they‘re looking for a jewish Zac Efron type and I thought, why do they call this „ jewish Zac Efron type“... His parents raised him agnostic, but he said, that he identifies with his jewish roots. And I bet he learned a lot about the culture and identity from his grandparents.

He evolved very much and is more edgy and serious now. Not so much pretty boy. He‘s a very grounded and likeable guy in his Netflix travelling series.

Similar like for Alison Brie: why looking for a Alison-Brie-like actress, if you can have Alison Brie.
After seeing a few of his recent movies & series, I think Zac Efron could be great as Moon Knight

That would be hot. And I could see him hanging with the avengers

I forgot we were getting this. If they get Moon Knight right I’m going to seriously love it. Efron has the capabilities for this I think, although some were wanting him to be the MCU’s Wolverine too.

...to be around for 10 years (He’s almost 60 when he first shows up in 2 years) Ok SLJ is over 70 and no getting a whole show...but Moon Knight needs to be a believable martial arts fighter for not just 2 years.

I like him and I hope he’ll be in the MCU in recurring role but not Moon Knight. But Moon Knight makes absolutely no sense to me. Digital de-aging couldn’t do everything...

40-50 ain‘t 60 - He‘ll be 58 when the show will be released and probably show up in Blade and other MCU movies

Sacha Baron Cohen remains the superior choice.

If they’re really looking for someone between 40 and 50, SBC would be great - hope he’ll learns to fight

If I recall correctly, I think he had a couple of fight/action scenes in The Spy. Not too many, but I think he could be really good with some more training.

SBC would be a good choice, but I hope they also look at Max Greenfield. I think he could be an inspired casting.
