Yeah plus I feel like most people will just assume Doom is live action Gru
Latveria as a rising power to rival Wakanda, switching out Wakanda’s isolation for Doom elevating his country himself, would be a good way to play with geopolitics. And a Doom who has a positive but obscure public image at first allows for much subtler but still creepy vibes in Latveria when the mask comes off (or on, in this case.)Yeah, Latveria should be a thing now, but maybe not as prominent as it's viewed as like one of those small eastern European countries that nobody really thinks about, until he starts being all heavy handed with people. He shouldn't be like a Kim or a Putin, but actually known as being a decent leader to an extent.
I like it!...
...
...
Make it come to be revealed Latveria was the only nation on Earth NOT affected by the Snap.
Talk about building up Doom's bona fides with the general audience... That'd do it.
Somehow Doom was able to fend off the Gauntlet's power. He closed his borders with the rest of the world and he spent the next five years looking to undo the Snap. He was about to undertake his own mission with his own method of bringing everyone dusted back when the Avengers beat him to the punch.
This hasn't sat well with Doom. But... At least that fool Stark is out of the way. Now... What to do about... Richards?
I like it!
...But the one thing I’d want to add would be some unsettlingly vague mysteries about how he did all this, and suggestions of either eldritch bargains with monstrous implications, or inter-dimensional kidnappings, or artificial life, or something to give the audience pause regarding his methods and any flaws that may appear later in his ends.
Im a fan of Doom as a hyper-competent and prideful antagonist... but I would want even his more detached and virtuous accomplishments to have something... off... about them that reminds people that even a benevolent control freak is still a bad thing.
Edit: Just had an idea!
Y’know how fun and awesome Doom’s 3rd person bragging is? And how there might be some debate about how bombastic Doom should be in live action, especially after a restrained and down-to-earth personality was used by Thanos?
Tying into my previous ideas about Doom disguising himself with an illusion spell...
Imagine they cast a good actor in the role of “Doom’s herald” - a Latveria envoy and spokesman who speaks about their glorious leader in totally sincere and worshipful tones, often saying things like “Doom wills that peace be the order of the day in Latveria, and so it is,” and other classically bombastic sayings, but delivered by someone else...
...Or so it seems, because the first “Dr. Doom“ encountered is an over-the-top Doombot , while the real Doom’s form is an equally iconic but more menacing design, and the herald is the actual Doom... and he keeps the third person tic, but now with a tone that’s more subdued while still being impressive, half-sarcastic, and half very real confidence.
The pitch perfect spot for doom would be openly theatrical, but in an intimidating and highly charismatic manner. Doom’s an extrovert through and through, and having a villain who can out-trash talk the heroes would be fascinating... especially if he keeps it classy.
I like it.
Doom's speech pattern is over the top but distinctive and long time fans want all his arrogance on display but putting this stuff in live action does mean some adjustment.
I’d actually kind of want to see if Marvel would look for any Hungarian, Polish, Romanian, or other Eastern European actors who are unknown to American audiences. Every country has a few actors with hitherto un-tapped gravitas for Western audiences, and if Doom could be bombastic in not just the expected English, but possibly even actual Hungarian or Romanian languages, it would add a certain flair to the character.
Anyone else think they should actually keep Latveria where it “really” is in the comics, between Serbia, Romania, and Hungary?
If they used the Snap and Time Skip for background fodder, Latveria could resemble Wakanda a bit more in terms of incorporating real world cultures in its makeup. Sokovia as a “generic Eastern European place” was a bit underwhelming, and having a more “real” place can work wonders.
...Personally, I’d even to so far as to make it clear Latveria is a brand-spanking new country to further contrast with Wakanda; Wakanda as the old power, Latveria as the young gun.
Sounds pretty cool. I like that kind of visual/background.I don't want Latveria as a new country. I want it very much to be considered "the old country", and a throwback to another time. It should even look like it's stuck in a time warp and from a previous century. They should take many cues from Transylvania and have it look like that with its ancient castles and people dressed in clothing from another period.
Sounds pretty cool. I like that kind of visual/background.
[/QUOTE]Those castles and the areas surrounding them are exactly what I think Doomstadt, Latveria should look like...the more ominous castles towards the bottom of the list are perfect for Castle Doom....[
QUOTE="Dark Raven, post: 38250544, member: 85327"]I want it to look more like this
Those pictures are awesome. But if rumors are true, Moon Knight and also Blade will introduce Dracula - and his castle will be in Transylvania
I’m really digging this design.
What’s the verdict here? I really think this design is good enough to be used in a feature film.
