The Joker Thread - Part 1

Off the top who has he acted with? Dafoe, Pearce, Hunman, Depp, Holland. He's good friends with Jamie Bell. I don't really want any of them as Joker though. Guy Pearce would be cool
I can see Dafoe and Bell. Guy Pearce kinda seems like a TDKR Joker to me.

I really like Guy Pearce. I wish he could be Joker now after I've said it.

Harry Melling, in addition to being one of the few suggested actors in this thread that I'm actually enthusiastic about as a choice for the Joker, has starred with Pattinson in two movies now, i.e., The Lost City of Z and The Devil All the Time.

IMPHO I think he looks too impish for Joker. But in terms of his eyes, I guess I can kinda see it there.

Gosling over Jake for me simply because I’ve already seen or at least can picture pretty well Jake’s version of Joker. Gosling I have trouble getting a grip of how he would play it and that’s way more interesting.

Conversely, I can 100% picture Gosling’s Dent and it’s not that exciting to me. But then again I’m the weirdo who doesn’t really care for Harvey Dent that much.
Personally, that doesn't really stop me from wanting it any less. I definitely get the appeal of not being able to picture how they'd portray the character, but for me envisioning it just makes it sound cooler.

In a thread that has spent the last hundred pages or so shoving Keoghan down my throat like some bad medicine, calling Melling 'impish' is just the greatest injustice. :funny:

I know this sounds like an insult, and I really don't want to sound mean, but Melling looks more like one of the Goblins (GG mainly) than the Clown Prince of Crime.

Fair enough if that's what you think, but again, saying that about Melling while you've been entertaining Keoghan is mighty funny to me.

I really hate this argument. Have you really ever totally forgotten that an actor isn’t just playing a role in a film? Even those who totally transform themselves for roles like DDL still can’t help but bring their own traits, even if the trait is how different they are from previous roles. It’s something you have to buy into with any piece of fiction. When I’m watching Bale as Batman he’s never not Bale in a Batman suit, but that’s the whole point.
I don’t see a welsh Baleman as Batman. So I have to disagree there. As Bruce Wayne? Sure. With makeup or masks it’s easier to get rid of your traits. What I’m saying with Gosling is that I see it as more pure Gosling with clown makeup on. Not Joker with a little bit of Ryan’s traits seeping through. Like with Clooney where the main complaint is that...you’re literally just seeing/hearing Clooney speak with bat cowl on his head rather than BATMAN with some Clooney for good measure OR a total transformation.

I don’t buy it. You can say this about any actor.

I have never watched a movie where I don’t know it’s an actor in makeup and a costume.

Well, that’s obviously different, but Serkis does have very distinctive vocal inflections. Snoke and Caesar basically have the same voice.
