Godzilla vs Kong (2021)

I mean the sooner the better, but if this is actually coming out before Mortal Kombat than Warner Bros really needs to fast track the marketing and there needs to be something released within the next couple of weeks IMO.

I hope we get trailers for both movies no later than the Superbowl, but sadly seeing how they've treated this movie so far I wouldn't be surprised if its closer to March before we get anything.

This is a nice surprise but how is there no trailer yet? Do people even know this is finished? It's had zero buzz.

That 3-second preview at the Brazil convention last year was enough to get folks on social media riled up. The absolute disgrace of this lack of marketing is mindbogglingly incompetent, even if the movie doesn't hold up to WB's expectations. At the very least do your goddamn job and advertise some of it to a substantial amount.

Right? I wonder if they did something to piss people off. Maybe godzilla loses or he dies or maybe king dies or maybe the plot is just terrible . The hype is there. Sure KOTM wasn’t a smash hit but people have waited for this movie for decades. I’ll never understand WB sometimes. It’s like they want to fail and lose money.

if a short little clip can get the Internet going then that should show them that people want this movie and trailer

hell people got hyped over that weird bean cgi commercial a few months back

I never thought that I would have so little enthusiasm for a film titled GODZILLA VS KING KONG three months out, but here we are. From the lack of any marketing, not being able to see literally the two biggest characters of all time duking it on the biggest screen possible, to them dumping this to streaming, there's just so little to get excited for. It feels like it'll come and go like every streaming movie in the past year.

Let's not even bring up the fact that the universe as a whole was horribly sidelined. Jesus Christ Legendary could've done big things.

Let's list it out. They had Pacific Rim and Godzilla 2014 come out in a brief span of each other. Reigniting the fandom for Kaiju love with a swift move.

They could've easily made sequels for these films advertised the universes and made millions in merchandise and spinoffs. But what do they do?

Release a crap sequel for Pacific Rim and destroy the universe and then pull a Kong movie out of the blue that was also advertised like crap and basically forgotten because no one knew it was in the same universe as Godzilla.

Then they go and horribly advertise the sequel to an already critically splitting film. Adding no sign of the fact that again this is a shared universe with Kong. Other than after credits scenes. But let's be honest, unless it's Marvel or DC only diehard Kaiju fans stay after credits.

Now with two dying universes. They don't release comic series to keep the hype up. They just now released the anime for Pacific Rim which was announced YEARS ago. I remember the FIRST report. And they fail to advertise the upcoming crossover between the two biggest monsters in cinema history.

This was a massive botch of a huge potential shared universe. Could've easily had a Pacific Rim and Godzilla and Kong series going with other monster spinoffs and crossovers. But nope, they just...this.

-----

TL;Dr: Legendary has botched the hype for three franchises in the past few years(Pacific Rim, Kong and Godzilla). And it's honestly disappointing.

Keep in mind, that attempting to advertise Kong and Godzilla films as being in the "same universe" may be easier said than done. Godzilla vs Kong is a Frankenstein of rights issues. That it exists is a small miracle.

Frankly, this film ran into the exact same issue that Justice League ran into. That production started way too soon, that they could not pivot or adjust things due to reaction from KOTM. And to be frank, KOTM's box office made this a zombie movie. They are just attempting to avoid as much loss as possible.

Here's hoping the SH Monstersarts can be released, soon, at least. Or at least reprint KOTM Ghidorah...

The rights issues slipped my mind in the glory of it all. It was like for a brief moment. It was all great then...nada. Just a let down, I'll get over it. Hoping they at least continue with a comic series or animated show from the profits.

There's a good chance that it'll be the talk of the town once it drops. WW is getting great buzz. And let's be honest theaters don't seem to keen on reopening doors. Let's see what's up. Maybe the movie is just enough to warrant the hype it had on announcement.

I’m just wondering though...how bad could this movie be and if it is..why?! What is so hard about this. This movie literally has one job, make the clash between these two epic and exciting. Thats what we’re here to see. Story isnt as important in something like this as opposed to something like “Batman v Superman.” I’m just wondering what could be so disastrous about this film unless the big monster fights are poorly filmed and underwhelming.

So this is coming out in 2 months and not only we don't have a teaser trailer.. we don't even have a poster.

Never seen such a bizarre lack of marketing.

we don’t even have a picture from the movie, have we?

We should be little optimistic, I assume that the movie screening deal with Legendary Pictures and Toho took time as WB had no rights to screen it on HBO Max. Since this seems to be sorted out, we will get more marketing soon.

As for those calling it as dumped on streaming and bad, This movie can't be any more bad than Godzilla Vs Kong and Legendary & Universal Picture's sequel to Pacific Rim. I expect this to be about the same quality, which is fine for me.

All this negativity is bit much. (auto-correct !)

A movie can always be worse then even the lowest expectations someone has for it.
