Superman & Lois General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!)

Finally catching up with this show. I watched the pilot many months ago and loved it but made the decision I was going to let the episodes build up and binge. Now I'm about halfway through and I am loving this show. Unlike the other CW DC shows this feels the most...mature (?) out of all of them. This is very much a family drama and yet I dont find myself antsy every episode wondering when Clark is gonna suit up and start punching bad guys. I feel drawn into the whole element of Lois and Clark trying to maintain a family and that very much is a credit to Hoechlin and Tulloch who are just knocking it out the park with their chemistry and interpretations of the characters.

I really like the two sons too. Yeah they get a little emo and teenager-y sometimes but you can tell both kids have their father's heart in them and a maturity you seldom see on your typical teen drama. There's a real brotherly bond between them that I can relate too (as someone who has a younger brother).

So proud of DC for allowing this kind of Superman show to exist. This shows that superheroes with families can be interesting and a goldmine of storytelling material instead of an albatross (like some believe with a certain other red and blue suited superhero). Overall, loving this show. :)

I dont mind the emo stuff because it feels legit. It isn't forced like on a lot of shows...if you know any teens this is on par with how they act superpowers or not. It is annoying but it is also very real.

While I am not one to rip on CW shows cause I like them...the drama has always felt forced. Even Smallville it was like they were trying too hard. (especially as it went on) Angst is fine when it feels like it is organic.

Teenagers ARE emo. Theyre rebellious, theyre hard headed, and theyre a pain in the butt as im sure every parent on planet earth whose raised one could attest to. Clark’s kids however demonstrate a maturity to them which i like to believe comes from their father. Yes they lash out sometimes but they seem to have a good head on their shoulder which prevents me from becoming detached from them. Unlike many other shows where the teen characters are just insufferable and youre like “ugh just GO AWAY and let the adults talk!”

Theres one episode where Jonathan drunkenly ruins a romantic moment between Jordan and Sarah. Immediately after he realizes what he’d done, he apologized to his younger brother and his younger brother responds by accepting his apology, hugging him and says “come on lets get you some water to sober up” (paraphrasing). Thats what i mean by maturity because that scene couldve and wouldve been played out very differently in many other shows.

It's good to see two brothers (or even siblings) who look out for each other and care about each other instead of the typical sibling rivalry or animosity. It's refreshing and appreciated. I hope they keep them friends and supporting one another instead of eventually bringing in unnecessary conflict.

And it would have in real life as well. They would have fought each other until the drunk one passed out ;)

This show.

All caught up. Finally, the best Superman adaptation in 40 ****ing years. Watching it, it seems like we've always had them, because it's not as hard as WB makes it seem! For once I'm thankful for Greg Berlanti's clout with a DC show.

This had all the ingredients of something that I would hate, but all of those things are actually great! Best superhero show since S1 of Jessica Jones.

Do you watch this show, Raven? :o

I do not. I only piece together the episodes from other people's comments in these threads. :o

Do you watch any of the CWVerse shows?

Does Falcon and the Winter Soldier count as a Civil War verse show?
I’ll take that as a no then. That would explain some of the questions you ask DR. It doesn’t however explain why you refuse, and I have to believe it’s refusal at this point to call Kara’s sister ALEX and instead use the actresses name :argh:

As someone who liked what Zack Snyder did with Cavill, Hoechlin is REALLY good. He channels the perfect modern Clark Kent. It kind of makes me retroactively mad at how they under-utilized him in Supergirl and the CW crossovers.

When Superman and Lois 1st season comes out in DVD, I hope they put out the uncut versions and special features.

Look, I wont lie, I have grown incredibly cynical about CW shows maintaining their quality. We all remember that FANTASTIC first season of The Flash, right? And then....yeah. I jumped off after season 2 but from what I've heard the show was never quite the same after and got incredibly campy and derivative.

The problem is these shows have such large episode counts that the writers I think struggle to maintain coherent storytelling. I'm anticipating Superman & Lois getting a 20 episode second season and we may see those narrative struggles start to arise. But at LEAST we will have gotten 15 great hours of Superman content and we've all been starving for quality Superman content.

I miss the days of special features, like REAL special features. Not just 2-3 little add ons.

Like with Smallville so many good special features, the problem is extra content is considered more costly and time management since many times these bts are being filmed during current season episodes.

That's something Rosenbaum explained in one of his podcast, that they'd have to shoot additional promotional content during an already tight schedule and episodes filming that it was very time consuming...
