First reactions from well-positioned people invited to premieres. I always take them with extreme caution. "Unlike anything Marvel has ever done" is becoming increasingly repetitive and, most of the times, not true. We'll see!
I agree with this assessment.

Marvel is a well oiled machine in several departments and some of those repetitive early verdicts can become frustrating since a lot of people who get to chime in are part of the system.

This sort of hints or name drops will make a lot more sense when Disney acquires DC in 10 years time. :D

Yes, apologies. It sits at No.6 for me. I'm in total agreement with some of the screening reactions tonight. It's definitely a completely different movie than anything seen in the MCU to date, which just great and for me was really refreshing. I honestly believe the love for this film will grow with multiple viewings.

I have a quick question. Is the detailed spoiler filled plot leak for this movie that was leaked several months ago accurate?

Honestly reading the reactions throughout the day, this seems very mixed. It wouldn't even surprise me if this gets a RT score in the high 60s. Or low 70s. Too many people I like and share the same movie taste with are very meh about this film. It's giving AOU vibes. I loved Shang-Chi. That film had a great balance between action & great character moments. I'm still excited to see the film but ngl like I said, too many people I share taste with are meh on it.

The MCU will be back in the 80's and 90's in RT score a month later with No Way Home.

I've seen worse early word of mouth than this. Also, reviews aren't submitted yet to RT to be sure that it won't hit the 80s, and MCU will only be back at that level with No Way Home.

I would see mixed is 50/50, and the early reactions are far more on the good side. We as human tend to focus more on the negative side and of course high expectations don’t help either, so anything less than glowing could be felt as negative.

Also I couldn’t rule out a few vocal, ill intended on the internet (aka intellect poophole) to keep drilling on that 3-4 negatives and interpret certain adjectives as outright bad. Of course this may still be panned by critics at large at the end (Ang Lee went from winning an Oscar to a mediocre Marvel film then bounced back to be best director the next one), but the reactions so far are seriously positive, not mixed.

Early word of mouth for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings didn't eXactly suggest it as one of the best MCU movies, yet it remains at Rt with 92% rating.

From what I've been reading online, it seems like that plot leak back in April is actually true.

If that's true, then I'm definitely not paying to watch this movie in the theater. That plot was garbage due to the unnecessary changes made to the source material and because this movie comes off as an artsy fartsy esoteric snore fest. This movie is clearly "Eternals In Name Only".

Kind of with you, I didn't like that leaked description at all but the trailers got me excited for this. Hearing its true is disappointing to say the least, but we'll see I suppose.

In general I'm all about respecting source material but really? At best, the Eternals were a failed D-list team that Marvel tried to revive every 10--20 years. What does "Eternals in Name Only" mean when they have been pretty much reinvented multiple times? I'm a big Kirby fan and I like the concept of the Eternals but for that property I'm all for someone trying to put their own spin on it.

Like I mentioned back then, it reads more like a cliff notes version that someone wrote based on memory so it's missing a lot of beats and story context. Now could it still be a disappointing movie, sure but I don't think I can soley judge it on a reddit post that took me a minute to read.

Campea saw it again, this time with RMB, who loved it. He's a huge fan of the Eternals comics so high praise. Especially the comment "this movie is what Ridley Scott's Prometheus wishes it was".

It was exactly what he wanted it to be. I guess we can hear more from them in today's show.

I'm getting the impression is that this movie might be right up the alley for the "older critics" who might not be that big of comic book movie fans.

Side note, Campea's out of the theater reaction video has over 142K views and this one is already up to 40K. This might be some of the best word of mouth for some fans.

"Artsy fartsy" is better than a generic looking film.

As for "esoteric snore fest" don't you have to watch the film first? as the clips/videos they've released doesn't showcase sleep inducing scenes, well at least to me.

While changes to the characters don't automatically mean they are in name only. Based from the trailers/premise, they kept their powers. Eternals are still connected to the Celestials and the Deviants. They didn't randomly included those for no reason.

Nothing wrong with artsy type films, I watch those type films moreso than comicbook movies. I love me some Wes Anderson and cannot wait for French Dispatch.
