BOX-OFFICE potential in the Multiverse of Madness

For Thor, I thought the teaser trailer was better than the full trailer. It was probably the combination of hearing the full song of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” with the quick shots of Thor and of course that joke at the end with Quill and the tease of Portman’s Thor. It was just masterfully done IMO.
The teaser was much more focused and had a better rhythm to it. The full trailer is fine but I was expecting it to blow me away more given how good the teaser was without even touching on many parts of the film.

NWH definitely gave it a boost for presales, and IW in particular along with all the consistent cameos helped boost the character’s profile. Looking forward to Strange’s next appearance now. Certainly one of my favourite MCU characters.
100% agree. I really think a DS3 in the relatively near future (maybe late 24 or 25) with Clea about the Dark Dimension (directed by Raimi) would have huge potential and I think that's where they're heading (maybe not with Raimi??). For the time being, I think Marvel will be giving Strange a bit of a rest and building up other characters.

If DS3 has a traditional Strange villain it can be a fair bit bigger IMO, especially if it’s close to any Marvel event. Theron/Clea can also give the next film a boost, I’m quite excited from what we see from her.

Yeah. I absolutely adore that woman and she's a tremendous actor. I would like to see them go full on "STRANGE" LOL. I'm thinking the Dark Dimension with Dormammu, Eternity, maybe the Living Tribunal, and maybe The Mindless Ones. Raimi would kill it with a great script along those lines. There are some old "Strange Tales" that you could piece together and make a really wild movie. Dormammu attacking Eternity, Strange helping Dormammu with the Mindless Ones attacking, etc. That could be glorious. Give it about 2 1/2 hours.

That all sounds awesome

I’ve been wanting Charlize in a comic role for a good many years (White Queen would have been amazing). Really great to have this confirmed.

For this weekend I predict $8 million domestically. Globally I predict the movie will hit $900 million.

Around 389M after Sunday, about 4M mon-fri next week, 3.8M the weekend after (with a bigger drop due to JW), I anticipate it will cross 400M dom on June 16th for a 405/407 finish.
It will clear 900M ww over the weekend. Should clear 950M or finish close to it when it’s all said and done.
Solid, solid run.

I never had any doubt.

Yes, I say it will.

Why is this unlikely? Next weekend is a holiday weekend. Doctor Strange is going to continue making money on the weekdays. A week from today, the movie will more than likely be over $360 million, and then Monday is a holiday. Most people are going to see Top Gun. Others are still going to see Doctor Strange. It's probably going to be closer to $370-ish million after Memorial Day.

Do you all really think it can't muster say another $30 or so million by that point? We're not talking Everything Everywhere All At Once or The Northman, this is a Disney Marvel Studios release.

*Ahem* *Ahem*

Box Office: ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Becoming Tom Cruise Top Grossing Movie – Deadline

2.) Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Dis) 3,765 (-40) theaters, Fri $2.6M (-43%), 3-day $8.8M (-45%)/Total $388.2M/Wk 5

I'm not a statistician, but $342 million after its third weekend right before a major moviegoing holiday weekend, plus weekday grosses, the gas was there. That's sub $60 million after $32 million in frame 3. I don't think it was an over-confident prediction.

Showing very, VERY good late legs which tells me that, while it had its detractors, it also had a pretty fanatical group that wanted to see it multiple times. I saw it twice, which is pretty unusual for me.

That sounds almost EXACTLY what I thought initially WRT tracking CA:CW. When it started lagging CW's numbers, it looked like it was going to fall short, but it had something CW didn't have; strong late legs. It looks like they'll get to "about" the same point, but took slightly different trajectories.

EDIT: If it ends up where you think it will and keeps the same OS/DOM ratio, it will end up almost dime on 950M. Considering where it didn't get released, it's a 1B movie.

Also, BoM is predicting 9.3M this weekend. That's incredibly strong for this week and JW might not have as strong an effect as you think it will. It had an earlier hold of over 50% with a very, very well received TG opening and I don't see JW getting the same reception.

Wow $909M and its not done yet. Got a few weeks until its Disney + debut. Could it knock on $950M's door? Even if it finishes around $925M that's still a FANTASTIC result for a DOCTOR STRANGE movie. I don't wanna hear anyone spinning this as a flop or disappointment.

This will be the first MCU film to finish in the $900 millions. Film would easily have been in the billion dollar MCU club if not for all the bans. I'm sure Feige and Disney will still be happy with its performance.

An amazing performance for a Doctor Strange film and concrete proof of the character's surge in popularity after the first movie. Had this been released in Russia/China, it would have done around $1.2 billion. It would appear that reports of the MCU's decline in popularity are premature...

I hope Raimi comes back for DS3. I'd love to see him go really wild with the material and make the Raimiest CBM yet :D

I really don't think audience treated it like it was just a Doctor Strange film. It's an event movie, also featuring Scarlet Witch, that first and foremost expands on the multiverse, which was by far the biggest selling point here. There's no doubt that a more straightforward sequel to the first one wouldn't have performed nearly as well.

If he’s in for Ground Zero rather than adapting and building on work already done, then we would get a full on Raimi spectacular!

The multiverse yes, but just having another MCU hero is not a rarity in sequels.

Marvel movies are becoming, more or less, ensemble movies. They’re interesting, people like them, and people buy tickets. Doctor Strange has, for quite some time, been one of the lead characters in MCU.

Edit: by the way, I think it absolutely was and was treated as a Doctor Strange movie. We’re just going to see more of the familiar characters in future movies. It’s the logical extension of creating an internally coherent universe.

First superhero movie to finish in 900mil period. Also Raimi's highest grossing movie!
