DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

Zaslav probably wants the characters to look like they do in the comics. Also, I dare not post this in the Batman forum because I don’t want to get killed but I don’t see Matt Reeves and David Zaslav meshing well together.

Has Zaslav ever even seen a comic? I think most seem to have at least some concerns over how Zaslav will treat Reeves.

I don't see Zaslov meshing well with several of the talent including Reeves, Jenkins, and even Berlanti , assuming he wants to be anywhere the Head of DC position.

Zaslov ego and bluster may be considered an asset by some geek pundits, but it has seemed to alienate more potential allies than to persuade them.

That’s not a good excuse.

Greg Berlanti is the name being whispered about to take over as DC Films president according to Variety. He has not been offered the job yet and sources close to him question whether or not he’ll take it considering it’ll come with a pay cut.

If they want him they’ll have to drop the bag.
Makes sense. He was able to actually build a shared universe which is what Zaslav wants and did it within budget and without behind the scenes drama (that we know of)

He was able to do this despite having to course correct on the fly multiple times because of idiotic embargoes

I'd actually be interested in seeing what he could do with a far bigger budget and wasn't cut at the knees creatively

I hope not but i have the feeling they will cancel the Flash if Ezra is still does more problematic actions it would be weird if another actor plays the Flash

This will get such backlash because of CW's reputation.

Berlanti made better DC content than Snyder to me but this is still gonna get a bad reaction online.

While I don’t doubt he could do better with bigger budgets and without typical CW mandates, I’d be hesitant to celebrate Berlanti crossing over to the film side.

WB is playing with fire by still trying to work with Miller. Even if Miller doesn't do anything controversial (or criminal) between now and when the movie comes out and goes through with the tell-all interview, there is still the possibility that more will come out about what Miller has already done and it could be really bad. Miller is a ticking time bomb.

Are there other good candidates? (that geeks would know about)

A Feige type won't work if the leadership still micromanage. Hell, I don't even think Feige has that type of freedom. I still think he gets mandates tbh.

His name didn't cross my mind before but when thinking about it, he might be one of the best guys for taking care of DC Films.
The Arrowverse hasn't been as bad as some people claim. He did good with establishing the heroes. The crossovers were pretty entertaining too.
Try to imaging something similar but with higher budgets and better writers, and obviously better directors. Could it be what saves DC on film? There's still hope!

Something tells me Berlanti and Zaslov would probably see things very different in terms of how to exploit these characters ,and which characters are worthy of the " Grand Spectacle " Zaslov wants.

Something tells me these guys would disagree alot, but that's my speculation.

I also don't know of Berlanti would even want to be apart of the drama going on with the film division.
I predicted that it could happen. Zaslav with his pure business mind and his "spectacles" fetish
VS
Berlanti who has atleast some knowledge/understanding about the characters (which Zaslav seemingly doesn't have).

It will be a bummer if Berlanti turns the offer down because of everything that's happening at WB right now.

I don't know why he's s interested in controlling DC stuff if he doesn't know the slightest about the characters.
How will he treat people that DO have knowledge? Will he force his ways upon them?

Oh, if there's anyone who's going to micomanage, it's Zaslav.
I sense that he wants a puppet as the DC Films leader.

Here’s my unsolicited take on the Arrowverse, and why I’m not feeling Berlanti as the Feige of DC. This is all my subjective opinion of course, but I don’t think the Arrowverse is very good at all. I don’t think putting Berlanti in charge of DC films and giving him bigger budgets is going to fix the problems his work has.

Arrow - first 2 seasons are good, the rest is mostly unwatchable and super repetitive. So many filler episodes.

The Flash - the first season is the best thing in the whole Arrowverse; it’s awesome! Season 2 is good, the rest is mostly unwatchable. Chris Klein’s Cicada is the cringiest villain performance in any superhero show or movie.

Legends of Tomorrow - unwatchable, but I get why people like it. It doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not.

Batwoman - unwatchable, probably the worst show in the Arrowverse, a disgrace to the Batman IP.

Supergirl - unwatchable, so much potential wasted. Filled with great characters but brought down by a serious lack of quality writing, CGI, and acting.

Black Lightning - unwatchable, I couldn’t get into these characters or the story. Black Lightning needs the rest of the Outsiders, I don’t find him very interesting on his own.

Titans - features some of my favorite characters ever, but suffers from terrible writing. The costumes are excellent and most of the actors are great in their roles. Titans is my favorite show Berlanti has produced, but not because of the show itself- but the characters. My favorite character is Robin, so I feel like i have to somewhat enjoy it. There are moments of genuine greatness that are inevitably followed by crushing disappointments due to terrible writing.

Superman & Lois - first season is great, second season is good but a huge drop in quality. Too many episodes and not much happens. Give us better villains, what the ****?

The original Green Lantern script he helped write is one of the best things he’s done and actually gives me hope that he could do a decent job as DC’s Feige if that does indeed happen. They could do worse I suppose, but I think they can do better. I don’t have any suggestions, but based on Berlanti’s work on DC, I would prefer someone else.

That's my concern .

If he ever finds his " Kevin Feige" , I wonder if he would even agree with that person's judgment alot of the time .

They are going to clash.

Zaslav could make a clone of himself and give the job to his "copy". :funny:
Only then will he get what he wants. But he will still get what he wants because he's THE BOSS.
I wonder how long Berlanti is going to remain as the head of DC Films before he leaves due to creative differences
