So we're just supposed to to let criminals get away with their crime "because optics?" Because you don't like the way it "looks" for the DOJ to prosecute their old boss who WAS A CRIMINAL? As Sithborg pointed out, pardoning Nixon led to IranContra, no consequences for IranContra led to Bush's crimes and now we have Trump committing the most flagrant offenses yet. If there are no consequences for him, what exactly do you think is going to stop the next person in the White House who considers committing grevious crimes against the American people?

And there are few arguments I hate more than "What will his base do?" That's literally letting democracy and the justice system be held hostage by terrorists. If Trump faces prosecution and they want to play stupid games, well, that will be the end of their movement. Because that ain't a fight they're winning.

The reasoning that Nixon's pardon led Iran Contra and then to WMDs being imagined in Iraq is specious. Its true that Watergate directly led to Fox and the mainstreaming of right wing propaganda media. But that had nothing to do with the pardon.I doubt very much a trial for Nixon would have inoculated the US against evil people in government doing evil things going forward.

Listen, there's nothing more I would like to see than Trump crushed and driven before us while reading Ivanka's lamentations on the Twitter machine. But I fear a trial will end in an unsatisfying conclusion and increase the odds of Trump 2024. I want his influence on the American experience reduced quickly and a federal trial ain't the way to do it.

Get a confession with no take backs. Go after minions like Miller. Let SDNY and Deutsche Bank go about their business. And focus on preventing the next wanna be dictator. Because he or she is coming.

There are already rumblings that Trump is going to announce an intention to run in 2024, if so I think he walks right into indictments. Mercy for a prior administrations' misdeeds is usually done so the country can move on, but if Trump continues to hang around and campaign, there is no reason to avoid bad optics. He may inadvertently increase the heat on himself and his family.

What's needed is a center-left coalition and not view the left as the threat. The center didn't see Hitler as the threat he was. We clearly need a different perspective than that.

The right wing is already the party of victim hood. See "cancel culture". See "politcally correct". And like I've said, the lock downs did energize the GOP.

2020: 65% Biden - 32% Trump - 3% other/no answer (Biden +33)

Got less to do with Trump, and more that Biden did significantly worse with Latinos from early in the year against Sanders. Sanders may have done just as well or better among Latinos than Biden everywhere except Florida.

The more Trump keeps making the counters recount, the more likely they're going to probably count even legitimate votes for Trump against him. I bet even the machines are fed up and would do that.

IMO, this is not a huge change. I grew up in a pretty conservative Mexican neighborhood (socially) and "The Police" issue resonating somewhat makes sense to me. I think these same people are going to see in a few years that Biden is no enemy of the cops. He will hopefully provide some leadership on reforming policing, but this Defund the Police thing isn't going to happen under a Biden watch.
