Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Growing up, I remember being subscribed to gaming mags like Nintendo Power, Game Pro, and Electronic Gaming Monthly, at various points throughout my childhood. It was always a treat to see a new issue waiting in the mailbox. It was also a treat going to a game store and picking up issues of mags I didn't normally subscribe to or read.

I remember 1st reading about Final Fantasy VII in one of those mags, as well as reading about Breath of Fire in an issue of Nintendo Power. It was stories and articles like that which helped spark my interest in RPGs. The mags were also a source of tips, tricks, and cheat codes. Heck, I still remember the 900# Nintendo "game counselor" phone service.

Of course, the internet pretty much replaced the mags. So, it's not surprising to see the mags dying out.

Newspapers like books I think will be around forever. Newspapers cover lots of topics and probably cheaper to produce unlike magazines with glossy/matte paper.

Well in this day and age where you have stations that are 24/7 news 365 days a year and with how you can find news on the internet news papers really are not needed. Books are different because books are not news about like everything going on in the world. Sure you got some things like history books and such but a lot of books are stores people make up to.

I just haven't read about a major newspaper shutting down unlike magazines.

Trademark Renews Hope for Sunset Overdrive PlayStation Version

Sunset Overdrive is literally the one XboX One eXclusive I want to play, not because of Insomniac but because the game looks fun. So I hope they port this to ps4/5 this year. The graphics are great and its open world.

Yeah that's true about newspaper just kind of a surprise. Yeah I saw that trademark thing and there is also a rumor that Sony is doing a state of play this month and that they are going to have sunset over drive port/remaster on ps4 and ps5 this year and also a sequel on ps5 with a TBD. I am not sure how realistic that is but I would be down for it. Like you its the only game I care about on xbox. Cuphead and the 2 ori games I would say are the best games on xbox and they are out now on the switch.

1 it looks like a good game and 2 I love insomniac games and trust them has I love ratchet and spiderman and Spyro was fun and this game looks good.

I REALLY hope the Sunset news leads to something concrete and is not just a routine BTS legal move. I've seen another rumor floating around that an upcoming State of Play will reveal a remaster/port of Sunset Overdrive for PS4/PS5 as well as a PS5 sequel called Sunset Apocalypse. Coincidence? Fake News? I really hope there is truth to all of this.

Sunset was one of the few gems on the Xbox One and one of the games I legit wished was on Playstation. I always felt it was a missed opportunity (one of many) on MS' part to NOT invest in this IP further and make it a new Xbox franchise. There should have been at least one Sunset sequel during the Xbox One's life cycle, with fans looking forward to a new entry on the Series X. The Sunset franchise could have been synonymous with Xbox much like Ratchet and Clank was with Playstation.

Just imagine if the Series X launched with a new Sunset game that really showed off its capabilities (like Ratchet and Clank will for the PS5)? That would have been an insane launch title, imo.

Of course, once Sony bought Insomniac, all of the above became impossible. And, weirdly, it made me resistant to continue to play Sunset on my Xbox One because I didn't want to further invest my time and interest into it, knowing that any potential future games would be on Playstation.

So, I've been hoping that Sony would release at least a port of Sunset Overdrive on Playstation after they bought Insomniac. If they do that, in addition to greenlighting a full sequel, that would be most welcome news. And a bit ironic, considering it is something that MS never did when they had the chance.

I saw the may rumor state of play and I am not sure if I buy it. I want sunset overdrive like I said its like the only game like xbox has that I want to play and I love insomniac games. But I am not sure if its realistic that state of play rumor for a few reasons. 1. The list of 8 games dosn't have Horizon forbidden west and GOW Ragnork on there and I am pretty sure next time Sony does a show we will game play for Horizon and a release date or news its been pushed to 2022 if its not going to make this year and I am pretty sure GOW will at least get a real trailer. Also I know insomniac games is fast and has multiple teams but with them having just had miles Morales, in November and them having ratchet out in June and also likely already working on spiderman 2 and them having remasterd marvels spiderman I dont know how realistic it is for them to be working on a sunset over drive sequel already.

I’d love to see more content in after Sunset Overdrive. Would love them to revive it.

I have great memories of for eg previews, buildup and reviews for Street Fighter II, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Super Star Wars and Star Wing on SNES and Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, Wipeout 2097 & Tekken 2 amongst many others.

I just hope the performance of that isn't less powerful than the ones they've already sold.

They're already launching a redesign in 2022? Wonderful...

Meanwhile, it has been about 6 months since launch, 7 months since purchase, and I still don't get even approximate information when I might get it. And because my seller couldn't provide even the slightest bit of info at the beginning of this year, it's been 5 months of weekly disappointment. Every Monday I get the same automatic email, "Information about your order", and when I open it it says "We are still waiting for the product".

Is this a rights violation? I'm not sure. Certainly feels like it. They told me again that they just don't have knowledge about the ps5 deliveries, and if they did they would share. I think they made a mistake because they left the pre-ordering open far longer than any other store, and now they just wont admit to it. It would be fine if they were honest, but since they weren't, I've been waiting all year with false hope

The internal specs/materials would be changed. But the exterior is still the same.

The fan of ps5s are also not the same. And people only found out about that when they opened a number of ps5s. Sony never addressed it.

As for the availability, its not getting better. Even though I like that we are now in a new console generation and ps5 games would be cheaper next year. Finding this console is a challenge and that won't change later this year and even early 2022. And thats why they are changing certain internal parts to possibly fiX the supply problems. And maybe Sony should have adjusted their plans last year especially with so many neXt gen games being delayed? Idk. This console launch definitely has red flags despite being a record breaker.

For those who can't still buy this, I think it might be better to just wait for this in 2022 or even wait for a ps5 slim. Personally speaking, I already missed out getting this early and even if I already have it, I'm not going to pay full price for Re8, Miles and Hitman 3 and I'd still be buying more last gen games rather than current gen only games. God of War isn't getting released this year. Horizon still doesn't have a date. I can catch up to ps5 games in 2023. While the others are also accessible in ps4 (and the ps5 upgrade is included without an eXtra charge).

What’s the reason for the redesign?

Oh nice. Sounds like it might be worth holding on till then.
Yeah I just hope scalpers won't be as agressive neXt year because if they get eXcited about a more powerful ps5, the cycle begins again.

Should just be 1 preorder per person who actually turns up to the shop, or maybe even people who have a continuous membership to PSN or PS plus and by length of membership. They need to find a way around it. The consoles need to go to gamers.

Personally I would prefer the buyer to present a government ID and then redeem the thing in person for identification.

But I think any way to make sure that gamers would get the ps5 instead of scalpers, would be extra work for Sony and any retail store. So the only way is keep up with the demand, that there's so much supply that people won't resort to bbuying from scalpers and everybody could get the thing on the go, no pre order required (unless its an online transaction), just a walk in purchase in retail stores.

Waiting is the smart thing to do, especially since the next model might be even more powerful. Perhaps they will also make the outer design less inconvenient. I only bought one early so I could save myself from boredom, as I have no work or school this year before August. My plan didn't work like expected, but on the other hand I don't have any regrets. I could eventually trade up if I deem it a worthy investment.

Sony Warns Tight PlayStation 5 Supply to Extend Into Next Year

Sony Group Corp. warned a group of analysts the PlayStation 5 will remain in short supply through 2022, suggesting the company will be constrained in its ability to boost sales targets for its latest games console.

While reporting financial results in late April, the Japanese conglomerate said it had sold 7.8 million units of the console through March 31, and it is aiming to sell at least 14.8 million units in the current fiscal year. That would keep it on pace to match the trajectory of the popular PlayStation 4, which has sold in excess of 115.9 million units to date.

In a briefing after those results, Sony told analysts it is challenging to keep up with strong demand. The PS5 has been difficult to find in stock since its release in November, in part because of shortages in components such as semiconductors, and the company hasn’t given an official estimate for when it expects supply to normalize.

“I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki said at the briefing, according to several people who attended and asked not to be named as it wasn’t public.

Sounds like a Disaster.

Sony really should scrap PS' tagline "Play Has No Limits". Two years of Ps5's short supply is just awful to hear. that 2022 prediction could easily be extended to 2023 if they don't do something drastic. They can blame covid or semi conductor suppliers but really, Sony be blaming themselves as well. Launching a console during a pandemic was never a good idea and this would cause people to keep using their last gen console and possibly hold back current gen games, as not all people have an easy access in acquiring the ps5.

I don't care if they broke records, if they can't keep up with the demand months and especially a year after its launch. This is their 5th home console launch. This sounds like a total mismanagement. I can't with Sony.
