Growing up, I remember being subscribed to gaming mags like Nintendo Power, Game Pro, and Electronic Gaming Monthly, at various points throughout my childhood. It was always a treat to see a new issue waiting in the mailbox. It was also a treat going to a game store and picking up issues of mags I didn't normally subscribe to or read.
I remember 1st reading about Final Fantasy VII in one of those mags, as well as reading about Breath of Fire in an issue of Nintendo Power. It was stories and articles like that which helped spark my interest in RPGs. The mags were also a source of tips, tricks, and cheat codes. Heck, I still remember the 900# Nintendo "game counselor" phone service.
Of course, the internet pretty much replaced the mags. So, it's not surprising to see the mags dying out.
