Legend of Zelda Offical The Legend of Zelda Thread - Part 4

I do think it is better than BotW, just beacause they've really expanded on that. As for new and groundbreaking, the building system is pretty amazing. Also, there is some damn impressive physics work under the hood, even more than BotW.
Apart from the expansion into the sky and underground to fully flesh out Hyrule, the temples feel more like classic Zelda and for me that gives it the edge over BotW, even though I'm barely halfway through TotK.

But the shrines.

Well I guess the temples are better than the Divine Beasts.
I liked the Divine Beasts fine but I prefer a good old fashioned temple with a monster at the end than variations of Ganon. Although Thunderblight Ganon put me through the damn grinder in BotW. I had to go farm for heart containers for that one.

But the shrines.

TotK got rid of the motion control shrines, so, you know, definitely an improvement. The shrines are also helpful tutorials to all the things you can build.

But half-assed motion controls make it a Nintendo game. :o

I am currently high as a kite right now and I remember when btow came out and I thought it was a really good foundation and clearly just the foundation. I thought it wasn't the best zelda game but I figured the sequel could possibly be. This is gaming paradise.

Imho it’s what BotW should’ve been from the beginning.
But it’s not better than BotW (and definitely not better than OoT), because it’s nothing new and groundbreaking.

After some more thought, and really, seeing more videos people have been posting, I don't know how you can call the game anything other than groundbreaking. What you can build in this game, and how those things interact with the world and the in game physics is just mind boggling. And it is doing it on the Switch.

I do wish they would give us the option to rotate objects with motion controls though, that would've been helpful so many times.

I'm all done with the four temples, now I'm taking a bit of a breather before jumping into the home stretch by hitting up shrines and building out a second stamina wheel since I've been focusing more on heart containers until now.

you’ll definitely need that…

That "home stretch" between completing the last of the four main temples and getting the Master Sword ended up being around 10ish hours. I think I'm ready for the final boss fight.

The path to the end has always been open of course, but, uhhh, you may have a little bit more...

I'm attempting to fight Ganondorf and consistently dying at the second phase with 15 hearts, 18 armor, 3 fairies, the Hylian shield, 50+ arrow bombs, a good amount of sundelion based food for the gloom, etc. I don't know whether to farm for more stuff or practice perfect dodges.

EDIT: I beat the game! Got through the final boss fight with only two hearts left. I haven't felt this accomplished beating a game (not counting side quests) in a long time. That was certainly a challenge towards the end.

As for how it stands among the other games, I've only ever really played the N64 and Switch Zelda games plus a little of the original NES game and A Link to the Past but while Ocarina of Time will always be my favorite, IMO Tears of the Kingdom is the best one I've played. It took the groundwork laid out by Breath of the Wild and improved on it.

So I'm only like 8 hours or so into Breath of the Wild and man at the same time I feel like I'm rushing through the story/missions, missing a bunch of stuff and getting no where. It doesn't help I'm still hitting the wrong buttons. Like I just upgraded my Sheikh Sensor and when I went to switch it back to Shrine mode I hit Y and nothing happened. So I kept hitting it and even tried holding it and nothing started search online to keep reading just hit Y. So I restart the game and nothing and for for some reason it popped into my head to look at the controller. And well I realized I had been hitting X the whole time. smh and lol

It’s a shame a game like this can’t be experienced on a mega pc to see how far you could go with it all.

In my 200 hours, I only came across one borked quest and it's easy to fix. The level of polish on display here is second to none in the modern triple A space.

Supposedly, they showed a tech demo of Breath of the Wild on Switch 2, at Gamescom, and it looked amazing. I'd love to see remastered versions of both games on the new hardware.

Good to know. Would like to try it on that. Not sure if I’m getting a Switch 2 at launch or not yet.

I am just not ready to go through the hassle of trying to get one again.

I haven't played any of the recent Zelda games since "Twilight Princess" on the Gamecube, and that one drove me nuts. "Ocarina of Time" is probably my favorite of them all - I played it so much in my teens I probably memorized it. But I also have a very soft spot for the first two NES games. I know a lot of people hate "The Adventure of Link", and so did I for a long time. But after replaying it not so long ago, I really enjoyed it.
