Elder Scrolls V - Part 6

360 has 60 days of exclusivity. So I think another month.

60 days? Frack. I thought it was just 30. I hope Bethesda is enjoying that pool full of money they got.

I uninstalled Skyrim because a horse mod messed it up. Reinstalled it and streamlined my mods. I went with something completely different and started as a female Breton mage. The one thing troubling me is I can't find a good set of armor to use. The mage robes/hood are obviously useful but provide no armor. I actually really like the guard armor (specifically Winterhold) but none of the mage hoods match it (meshes overlap and colors don't match).

There is this armor, but I don't like how the creator made it so difficult to craft, even for the clothing version.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20077

There's also this, but I was trying to avoid black since I've worn it with past characters.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9645

This was somewhat promising but the creator is annoying because they refused to list how to craft items or where to find them and don't want people posting it in the comments either. I'm someone who wants to use an item from a mod as soon as I install it. The mod also requires a nudey mode which I hate to use (messes with other character textures I use anyway).
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1040

I might actually re-install this mod when Dawnguard comes out and make this character a Vampire Lord since they'd go well with that.

If you're going with a female breton, that first armor is the best way to go i think.

I rmember i had to uninstall Skyrim once because a mod messed it up. It sucks. These days i tends to avoid mods that made sweeping changes to the game.

So I'm downloading Dawnguard as I type this and really have no idea what to expect besides vampires out the wazoo. My character was a vampire for about 2 months gametime then got the quest to return to normal.

I actually preferred to be a vampire as the character I'm playing as is a sniper type (sneak, archery, enchanting) and the extra 25% sneak bonus was really helpful. I just keep going back to Faendal and drinking from him. I leave him one gold everytime I do so by the time I was cured he had around 50 gold.

My sneak and archery are both around 90 right now. Any suggestions what I should work on after they hit 100?

still no date for Dawnguard on the PS3?

I thought the 360 only got 30 days of DLC exclusivity!!

They got 60 days, so PC and PS3 users get to wait another month.

I spent about 6+ hours re-installing Skyrim, downloading mods, and installing them. And out of boredom tonight, I wrote them all down with links to download as well as other mods I like (but don't necessarily use). I also included links for Nexus Mod Manager and Skyrim Script Extender with tutorials on how to use and install them.

None of the armors I recommend are female armors that only cover the nipples and crotch.

My Mods

A Quality World Map
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4929
The Skyrim map is pretty useless for anything but fast travel. When you want to travel by foot, you pretty much set a waypoint and go straight to it. Often works but sometimes there's a mountain in the way. This mod adds roads (you can choose between main roads or all roads such as dirt paths) as was the case with Oblivion. It may take the exploration away but what kind of map doesn't have roads? Plus, you'll feel more like a traveler using the roads.

Alternate Start - Live Another Life
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9557
The Skyrim opening is good but long. When you start a lot of characters, it gets tiring having to start the same way every time. This mod allows you to choose a new start to the game. You aren't forced into the main quest (there is a way to initiate it though). Some races even come with bonus starts. As an Orc, you can start in a stronghold and a Khajiit can start as a caravan guard among others.

Amazing Smooth Females
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/140
Makes female characters look better. No, it's not a nude mod, just improves female textures. Install it AFTER Xenius' Character Enhancement but BEFORE Final Younger Characters.

Armored Mage Robes
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16722
Playing as a mage, I wanted to use the vanilla mage robes to stay true to my character. But spamming the armor spell is tedious and gimps your damage output. This mod adds mage robes with armor ratings. Overpowered? Probably, but being a mage is a chore and you can use the help.

Breezehome Renovation with Bathroom
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9755
A Breezehome mod is necessary as it will be your main base for storing items. I like this one because it integrates the Dovahkiin Hideout (which connects all your houses once you own them) and moves the firepit to the side wall (but you must select the FSW one from the Download page, the main one is different).
CAUTION: If you uninstall any house mod, you MUST remove ALL of your items from it beforehand.

Extended Vanilla Weapons (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=74655300
Tired of all the same old weapons in Skyrim? This mod adds a ton of new items composed solely of the vanilla items in the game. The benefit of this is that if you use a texture mod on the weapons (such as changing the color of Elven weapons), the new items will reflect that as well.

Faster Vanilla Horses (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7558
The Vanilla horses in Skyrim are slow to the point of being absolutely useless. It's even worse that you have to pay 1000 gold for them. This mod makes horses much faster and gives them a larger stamina bar to sprint longer. Be cautious with horse mods, they can mess up mounted combat (this didn't, Better Horses did though. I don't recommend that since it hasn't been updated since the 1.6 patch).

Final Younger Characters
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2332
In Oblivion, you had a lot of options to make your character look very young or old. However, Skyrim lost a lot of these features. This mod replicates that by making your character (doesn't affect NPCs) look younger.

Glowing Ore Veins
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/193
Not only does it make ore veins easier to find but each type has a unique color. So you won't be stopping at every vein hoping it's Ebony only to find it's another Iron one.

Immersive Armors
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19733
Adds a variety of lore-friendly armors to the game which you can craft or find in the world. Some are the Lore Freindly Armor pack that was created and abandoned a long time ago, many others are by hothtrooper44 himself (the creator of this pack) and others have been added at the request of their respective creators. I recommend using 3.2 as version 4 added some armors I didn't care fore (Seadog, Paladin, and Apotheus). Hopefully the creator makes a version that allows you to choose which ones you want.

JaySuS Swords
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1002
Adds 53 new swords to the game to craft or find in the world. Be sure to read the Read Me on how to install it.

Killmove Control (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=17887
Adds a book to your inventory that allows you to change the frequency of the killmove cutscene happening. You can also toggle the frequency of decapitations (requires the perk though).

Long Lost Smelters of Skyrim
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8298
Adds more smelters to the world of Skyrim. Very convenient if you use smithing. Combined with Val's Crafting Meltdown, it will help you get rid of loot clutter quickly.

Long Lost Art of Blacksmith
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1020
Adds a variety of weapons and armor to the crafting menu that were uncraftable before. There are other options to choose from such as More Craftables (Nexus and Workshop), Codifred's Enhanced Smithing (Workshop, also includes meltdown), and Complete Crafting Overhaul.

Morrowind Armor for Skyrim (non-replacer) (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=78858570
If you're a Morrowind fan, you'll want this. It adds Morrowind armor to Skyrim. A lot of them look great, especially the Antique Orchish Armor (I hated the vanilla one in Skyrim). This is the non-replacer version which just adds them as separate pieces of armor. There is a replacer version which will replace the vanilla armor with Morrowind style. I prefer the non-replacer. Hopefully we get one for Oblivion armor.

No Requirement to buy Breezehome
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19055
This mod works great with Live Another Life. If you'd prefer to not be forced into starting the main quest, this allows you to buy Breezehome from the Whiterun steward for 5000 gold at the start of the game. It gives you a place to store all your loot without going through a quest you've done 100 times over.

Oblivionized Races
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8215
Brings back the racial bonuses that were in Oblivion. Skyrim's really suck in comparison. For example, with this mod, High Elves have 100 bonus magicka (instead of 50), 25% elemental resistance, 75% disease resistance, and +10 in Destruction (instead of only +5) in addition to other skill bonuses. The only thing lost is the Highborn greater power which increases magicka regeneration. However, it's one of those once-per-day spells which I always found useless.

There is a Morrowind version of this mod as well if you prefer that.
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8670

QD Inventory
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/667
If you use a gamepad, the Skyrim UI works fine. If you use a mouse+keyboard, it's less than ideal. QD Inventory revamps that by having replacing the vertical bar to view Weapons, Apparel, etc. by placing it as a horizontal bar at the top. You can now see an items weight, damage/armor rating, and value in a column to easily compare them. This was the first UI mod and hasn't been updated for many months but still works. SkyUI (which requires SKSE) has become the more popular UI mod. I prefer QD Inventory's layout and it doesn't require SKSE.

Reduced Item Weights (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=79183711
If you're tired of being burdened by the weight of Dragon Bones and Scales and leather, this mod makes them weigh less. It's especially useful for Leather. It made no sense that Leather was heavier than a Wolf pelt.

ShowRaceMenu Alternative
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20394
One of the great benefits of the PC is the command console ShowRaceMenu to alter your character's appearance once you started them. However, doing it via the console can affect your stats depending on what you changed. This mod adds a Shout spell which allows to alter you use the ShowRaceMenu without affecting your stats.

Skyrim HD 2K Textures
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/607
An HD texture pack. Not only is it better than Bethesda's official one, but it's also free of bugs that Bethesda's has (most notable were on the logs in fires). Resource heavy though, so use the Lite version if you have to.

Skyrim Monster Mod
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9694

Lore-Friendly Version (install after Monster Mod)
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=16411

After playing Skyrim for awhile, it can be pretty boring seeing the same creatures over and over. This mod adds more variety. There's the default version but also variants made by other modders. One makes it more lore-friendly by removing some creatures and renaming others and another adds more spawns. More are listed on the Monster Mod's description page.

Unofficial Skyrim Patch (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=21296
As the name says, it's a patch for Skyrim. Read the notes to see everything. Absolutely necessary to have now that it's out. Make sure it's high in your load order.

Val's Crafting Meltdown
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/874
You can only loot so many Fur Armor and Iron Armor before it becomes pointless. However, this mod encourages you to keep looting by giving you the option to use the smelter (or tanning rack) to meltdown items for Ingots and Leather. In addition to weapons, you can also smelt down other items for Firewood or Ingots as well. Overall, very useful and helps get rid of clutter.

Weapon and Armor Fixes
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4719
Essentially just fixes armor weapon and armor bugs in the game. The creator also has released Smithing Perk Overhaul and Complete Crafting Overhaul which all work well together. You can also use More Craftables or Lost Art of Blacksmith with Weapon and Armor Fixes and Smithing Perk Overhaul.

Xenius Character Enhancement
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2356
Xenius has released several mods which greatly improved the textures of characters in the game. This mod is a package of all of them. If you plan on using any other character texture mods, install XCE first and then overwrite that it with the other mod. I use 2 other character enhancement mods, so my order is:
XCE > Amazing Smooth Females > Final Younger Characters

Armor Mods

Black Mage Armor
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9645
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=10898&searchtext=black+mage
Ideal for mages, thieves, assassins, rogues.

Dark Messiah Armor Pack
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=79988959
Ideal for Dark Messiah fans, various class types.

JackoO's Knightly Armor
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20618
Ideal for knights, paladins (male only).

Leatherbound Huntress
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11143
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=82978173&searchtext=leather
Ideal for Female rangers/archers/thieves/assassins. The Leatherbound Huntress armor is a great choice. It comes in 3 colors (white, brown, and black) and with a sleeved and sleeveless version for each. Note: As of 26/07/2012, the brown sleeved version does not render properly, look for an update soon.

Lord Armor
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5853
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=9441
Ideal for knights, paladins, heavy armor users.

Matys Mithril Armor
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19655
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=79349739
Ideal for fans of the Mithril Armor from Oblivion

Nightingale Hi-Res Retex with Torn Scarf and Variants
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/3765
A high-res and slightly recolored rextexture of the Nightingale armor. It retains the original vanilla look but much better and a more consistent color throughout (the gauntlets match the armor more now). The variants are caped (like the vanilla), torn scarf, and capeless (latter two are good for the beast races).
There are dozens of other options, use what you like best. I want to point this one out though since I don't think it gets as much attention as it should.

Scout Armor
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10864
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=12030 (Armor only verson, my preference)
Ideal for rangers/archers. Adds a set of really well made armor that's great for a ranger/archer character. I recommend using the Armor only version, the weapons are nice but they're kind of redundant. However, the creator has managed to make a shield that is actually an inverted dagger. So if you want to use a shield to block but not use an actual shield, this is really cool.

Shrouded Armor mods
There are dozens of mods to change the Shrouded Armor. Some make it all black (my preference), some alter the colors, some change the textures entirely, some replace them with the Nightingale Armor (or rextures of that), one even replaces them with Assassin's Creed styled armor. Use whatever you like the best.

Tribunal Robes
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20077
Ideal for Female mages. If you're playing a female and want to use robe armor, the Tribunal robes look great. The only downside is the creator made it so you need ebony ingots, even for the clothed version.

Triss Armor Retextured
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4708
Ideal for The Witcher 2 fans, various class types (female only).

Warmage Armor
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10864
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13376
Ideal for mages, spellswords, battlemages.

The Witcher 2 Models
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5588
Ideal for The Witcher 2 fans, various class types.

Weapon Mods

Wulfharth's Dragonbone Weapons
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10171
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=14168
Adds amazing looking Dragonbone Weapons to the game. Dawnguard will add them, too, however. But if you don't plan on getting that DLC, this more than makes up for it.

Isilmeriel's LOTR Weapons
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5727
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7891
Adds a bunch of LOTR weapons.

Class-centric Mods

Midas Magic
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7673
Ideal for Mages or general magic users. The magic in the game is kind of underwhelming and missing some good spells from previous games. Midas Magic remedies that. You get a book that gives you instruction on how to craft spell tomes to learn these new spells. Some are really awesome.

Sneak Tools
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19447
Ideal for Thieves and assassins. Overpowered but fun. Allows you to sneak and knock an NPC unconcious with your fist or slit their throats with a dagger or one-handed sword. Also adds new items such as hoods which conceal your identity, functioning like the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal from Oblivion.

Shenk's Thievery Overhaul (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=11608
Ideal for Thieves and assassins. Adds a ton of new features such as stealthy ways to get into cities and vaults to steal from. There are now different types of guards (from dogs to housecarls) in some homes and shops.

Cosmetic Mods

ApachiiSkyHair
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10168
A hair mod which adds more hair to the game. I personally don't use it because I think the hairs stand out too much in the game and the male hair styles look dumb.

Auto-Unequip Arrows
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10753
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13206
If you don't want to see your arrows when you unequip your bow, this mod will fix that.

Auto-Unequip Helmet
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=17363&searchtext=auto-unequip
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13298
If you spent a lot of time making your character look good and want to see their face but still use helmets, this is for you. It will automatically equip and unequip your helmet when you character draws and sheathes their weapon.

Better Females by Bella
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2812
This is the more widely used female texture mod (again, NOT a nude mod). I personally don't like it since it makes the females look too pretty though I find the results look much better on your character. There are different degrees to choose from as well. Install it after Xenius Character Enhancement.

Overpowered Mods

Better Werewolf
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4102
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=9010
Makes Werewolves much stronger in the game. If you think it's too powerful, there's a toned-down version.

Enchanting Freedom (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=7430
Allows you to put any kind of enchantment on any item.

Skyrim Infinite Sprint (Workshop)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=10031
Allows you to sprint without using your stamina bar, so you can do it infinitely.

Spend Dragon Souls for Perks
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11623
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=13544
If you have a lot of Dragon Souls, you can now use them to unlock perks. This is done by going to new standing stones near Riverwood and activating them to choosing a perk from a skill.

Tutorial on how to install

Long but great tutorial and HIGHLY recommend following his instructions. He also does mod reviews, he doesn't just show you them but really goes into detail about them and shows them off well. Definitely worth the subscription.

SKSE is required for some mods. None above require them but if you come across some you want that do, you'll need to know what you're doing.

I was going to exclaim, "Holy balls that's a lot of mods!" but I have about 50-something installed myself.

And I don't want to count how many you have there, but it looks like it's close.

With the exception of Auto-Unequip Arrows, the only mods I use are under My Mods. The rest are ones I used at one point or just installed to try out.

The armor mods I'll install when I use a character with them and then uninstall when I'm done. The rest I don't use anymore.

I do use a custom mod where I've tweaked the appearance of some NPCs to be less fugly. Like I removed all the eye makeup from Farkas and Vilkas and got rid of the hideous warpaint on Aela.

So I take it Dawnguard won't be out for the PC and PS3 until September then? That's a bummer. At least I have my Daedric Armor set now.

Well, I encountered this rather amusing Horse Glitch in my game. It's the traveling Nobleman accompanied by a lone Imperial guard you can bump into every once in awhile. Of course I decided to mess around with him and his glitched horse.

@ Spidey bat

Be careful with the withcer 2 mod.It can messed up your woodelves in the game.

hmmmm.....I thought 360 exclusivity was 30 days.......but, oh well..........

at least there's going to be a new patch for PS3......

I was mistaken, it was only a 30-day exclusivity with the 360 which as expired. No word on any release date for PC/PS3 though. I'm probably not getting it until Steam has it on sale.

I actually don't use the mod myself. I know people like to use mods that include stuff from other games, but I usually don't.

^^CD project actually gave fans permission to use their Witcher 2 game assets in creating mods for Skyrim.

So big kudos to the guys and galls from CD project.

That's it, with Daedric weapons plowing through escaped criminals for the Companions and the like is way too easy. I think as a challenge and to even it up I'm just going to fist fight them.

I was bored and decided to do something rather amusing in my game to record with my Dazzle and post on my Youtube account. I want to get into a fist fight with one of the city NPCs but I thought it would be good to ask you guys what NPC I should get into a fistfight with. City Guards are the exception and also Heimskr because I can't go through the day unless I've heard his Talos rant at least once.

There's two guys in Whiterun I would love to see get the absolute **** kicked out of them. Of them is some rich fellow, I believe he owns a farm or a meadery (but does no actual work) and every time you see him he'll say, in his most snooty of voices, "Have you ever been to the cloud district? Oh no, of course you haven't."

The other guy actually seems like an okay chap except he constantly repeats the same friggin' question every time you pass him on the street. "Have you tried mercenary work? It might suit you!". He continues to say this even after you've joined the Companions in his oblivious state. Like I said, other than his repetition he seems like a decent fellow (unlike the first guy who just seems like a total wanker) but his constant questioning get really boring, really fast.

Either of those two would be grand!

Oh God yes, that would be Nazeem, the snooty Cloud District guy. Yes, I do so want to get in a fistfight with him. The other one in Whiterun would have been the guy that wears Imperial Armor, but Lydia killed him when I encountered him in the Battle Born house looking for evidence of that Grey Mane woman's son. He had the gall to tell his kid to kill me!! So yeah, he no longer wanders the streets of Whiterun with his arrogant self.

The second guy I have to refuse because I helped him out and he blesses me with "Divine smile friend!"

Another guy I am inclined to put in the poll is Sven, not because I dislike him but I have chatted up players that do. I personally wish he was a marriageable NPC because he doesn't need to be so shady trying to win Camilla's love when he has the attention of the Dragonborn which is ten times better. I'd love to have him guarding my home in Whiterun and playing songs for me on his lute. I'd make him forget about Camilla and the Elf. lol

With enough input and feedback I might just make a formal poll just to get some definite idea who in Skyrim I should get into a fist fight with.

I thought of an interesting backstory for a new character to play. I started typing it out this afternoon and it's sort of evolved into a full-blown fanfic now.

Haha nice.

My dudes backstory is kinda like the Jokers. it changes every time i tell it.

So how would everyone feel if the made co-op for Skyrim, just 2-4 players max? I've been hearing alot of people talk about it and mostly it's split down the middle.

Personally me and my friends would do what we normally do, murder everything that moves, murder each other and murder everything that moves while murdering each other.

Even if it was just 2 players, we'd probably get into a William Tell shooting contest from as far as possible.

It would suck. So cool that's its not going to happen.

trololol

I don't care one way or the other. I just don't think it's a needed feature.
