Illumination's Super Mario movie

Not thrilled with Illumnation's involvement, every one of their movies I've seen has felt like a chore to sit through. When Despicable Me is the best film they have I can't say I have high hopes. Mario is a tricky enough property to adapt without having a studio almost incapable of intelligent storytelling at the helm.

Like I said in the other thread. They probably could have gotten anyone else for the job, but I'm in the wait and see camp.

I do want to keep an open mind, but it's a little disheartening when I look at their track record and all of the films on there that I've seen I either thought were dull or awful, and the one's I haven't seen all have terrible reviews citing the same issues responsible for me not liking the films of theirs that I have seen. They don't care about making good movies, they want to put in the minimum effort, poorly imitate better studios, and rely on cheap gimmicks (Minions) over decent storytelling and characters. This cannot have been Nintendo's only option for a partner.

The live-action movie rules, anyone who says otherwise is in Al Qaeda.

That is all.

Illumination is owned by Comcast/universal who have just reached a deal with Nintendo to have Nintendo lands in all universal parks so no other partners were options

I still love it. The anticipation was awesome even if the movie was off.

Hell, I own it and watch it from time to time because it's such a bizarre film and there really isn't anything like it. It's pretty fun, albeit dark fun for a kid's movie.

The 90s pushed boundaries and I appreciate those movies. Now, they're super questionable in ways haha.

I loved the cliffhanger they ended the movie on with Daisy barging in with the flamethrower or whatever that thing was.

The live-action movie is a guilty pleasure of mine.

That being said, I'm still not hyped for this whatsoever.

I mean...Dennis Hopper is Koopa/Bowser.

What the hell more do you want, nerds? :woot: Show some class, here. Dennis freakin' Hopper!

I really doubt a star is gay because his name is Twink. Stars don't really have sexual preferences from what I'm aware. I hope you're kidding

Dammit. My pervy little mind thought he was looking at something adult. :funny:

It better have Luigi's death glare in it!

This does remind me, they'd be wise to take a lot of influence from the first two Paper Mario games as far as characters and story go.

Absolutely. I adored the Nintendo 64 version. One of my fave games of all time

This is literally the funniest thing I've ever read online. I can't believe this website is free.

Hey PhasedPlasma, you know the sun? Big gay.

Why does everyone hate Illumination so much? They are NOT the worst animation studio in Hollywood by far. That goes to either Blue Sky or Sony Pictures Animation in my book. At least Illumination puts effort into their movies and at least they're entertaining! I'll take them doing Mario over Blue "Sellout/Dreamworks Knock-Off/Pop Culture BS galore" Sky any day!

Their most recent movies have been mediocre. Despicable Me 3 was bad, and so was Secret Life of Pets for that matter that basically ripped off the story for Toy Story but with dogs instead of toys.

I think compared to Pixar they're a bit more commercialised.

But I think there's worse companies out there. I'm sure it will be fun. It will just take some getting used to having a Mario that's a chatterbox

Pixar is incredibly commercialized. They are owned by Disney. Look at the really mediocre Cars films which were mainly made for merchandise potential. I think a better way to put it is a lot of their films lack the depth and layers of Pixar's best work.

I'm used to a Mario that won't shut up. He was played by Captain Lou after all.
