'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Finished the game for the first time. It's great.

So since this is 10 episodes, here's how I think it's gonna go:

Episode 1: Prologue with Joel and Sarah. Introducing Tess and Ellie, and finding out she's immune at the end.

Episode 2: Them facing Clickers and Tess getting infected. Finding out the fireflies were killed and Tess sacrificing herself.

Episode 3: Fiding Bill for help (the show will explore his relationship with Frank). First Bloater to show up.

Episode 4: Ellie and Joel being ambushed by bandits. Ellie saving Joel and learning how to shoot.

Episode 5: The tragic story of Henry and Sam.

Episode 6: Meeting Tommy, and Ellie running away.

Episode 7: Joel and Ellie going to the university to find out the fireflies moved. Joel being attacked severely hurt.

Episode 8: Ellie surviving by herself and taking care of Joel. Ellie meeting David.

Episode 9: Ellie being capture by the cannibals. Joel recovering and saving her.

Episode 10: The conclusion with them find the fireflies, confronting Marlene and saving Ellie.
Not a bad hypothesis for the rundown there, I really wouldn't be surprised if that's how the show goes down depending on how faithful they're going to be to the game. The only other element I could see being added in there somewhere is a little bit of Ellie's backstory that was seen in the DLC for the first game. Going by your rundown that could be in episode 8 since the DLC took place around that point in the game.

That’s more or less how I would adapt the first game for one season. I imagine there’s probably going to be a lot of adding to certain parts since a lot of the game is just crafting weapons and killing Clickers. Maybe hint at Joel’s past as a Fireflies and more flashbacks with Sarah, to twist the knife even more when a certain pivotal moment happens.

I also think they’re probably going to extrapolate on certain events from the 2nd game, maybe retroactively placing some of the Abby stuff into Season 1, for a transitioning season to fill in that missing time we didn’t see, and then we get full on Part II stuff for the rest of the series. It would make that eventual moment less jarring and sudden, since we would get more of that time with Joel and get an even better understanding of Abby’s motives and actions.

The transition season could mainly be flashbacks of Joel with Tommy and Abby growing up without her dad to strengthen the parallels between the two even more. We would get to understand Joel even more as a character and why he does things the way he does, as well as have him sit with his decision to do what he did to save Ellie. Also have the entire museum chapter in there for good measure, since it’s such a great moment and a great memory for Ellie. Having a transition season would also help with the actress playing Ellie appropriately aged from season to season. Ages 13 (Left Behind), 14 (start of Part I) and 15 (end of Part I) for the first season, age 16 for the transition season, then ages 17 and 19 for the Part II events for a final couple seasons.

Part II would probably have to be two seasons, since it’s a much longer game than Part I, and so much happens. Doing it in one season would rush so many things. I just don’t know where the cut off point would be.

Good to hear

Let’s beat this live action video game curse

How violent/gory do people think they are going to make this? There’s at least one thing I’d rather not see in live action.

Well, it is HBO. I don't think it'll be Game of Thrones level gore since the first game didn't really push that threshold too much. TLOU2, on the other hand...

Oh I didn't think of the channel it's airing on. Ha, if GoT rules apply I'm in trouble. :D

Yes, TLOU levels would be fine but certain things in TLOU2 I could do without the visuals (and any associated crunching sounds). :funny: :csad:

Really, if one was able to avoid getting hurt that much as well as avoiding the "Game Over" screens, the first game wasn't all that gory with the exception of the grotesqueness of the clickers/bloaters and the rare human confrontations which were a lot more prevalent and graphic in the second game.

I’m fine with watching most regular violence in films/shows/games outside of the Hostel type stuff. Never liked unnecessary gore but the things I find tough to watch are bone breaks the wrong way (like the first episode of Punisher) and limbs/body parts (including fingers) getting chopped/bitten off. :csad:

Yeah, there's a difference between standard gory violence that you'd see in GOT or a Tarantino movie and the gory torture porn that you'd see in Hostel or the Saw movies that just lingers on it.
