Phase 3 Release Schedule Finalized

By Captain Marvel are people meaning Mar-Vell or Carol Danvers? I know she is Captain Marvel now but surely they would call the movie Ms. Marvel.

I always kind of assumed we might get introduced to Mar-Vell in a GOTG sequel, his powers being passed to Carol would make for an awesome after credits scene to tease an upcoming Ms. Marvel movie.

Danvers. Ms. Marvel is an entirely separate character now.

Danvers. Ms. Marvel is an entirely separate character now.

Yeah I know but it's relatively new, that's like saying you can't have Steve Rogers being called Captain America in the next movie he is in because Falcon is the current cap in the comics. Surely Carol Danvers will be Ms. Marvel in the MCU, at least at first.

I think they are going to have to call the something other than Ms/Captain for the title.

Otherwise it will be Marvel's Ms. Marvel or Marvel's Captain Marvel.

Also I prefer Ms. over Captain but that's neither here nor there.

I prefer if they just call it "Ms. Marvel". Thats still Carol Denver's trade mark name right?

I'm pretty sure they'll go with Captain Marvel over Ms. Marvel. The latter (IMO) contains a mildly sexist overtone wherein she's somewhat defined by her gender. I'm sure that wasn't necessarily the intention when they introduced the character, but it does come from a time time when female characters were often prefixed with a "Miss" and black characters with "Black".

Gender-centric overtones aside, in any case, Marvel seems to be going with the "Captain Marvel" moniker for Carol Danvers across all platforms. I'm reasonably sure that they'll go with Captain Marvel for consistent branding purposes, if nothing else.

As an aside... paradoxically, I would cry bloody murder if they called T'Challa merely Panther rather than Black Panther. :)

Going back to the Phase 3 schedule, with the buzz surrounding the Inhumans, I'm thinking that property leapfrogged both Black Panther and Captain Marvel as the next new property that Marvel Studios will be launching. This is assuming that Dr. Strange is a given for the July 2016 slot, of course. Let's see now...

July 2015: Ant-Man
May 2016: Captain America 3
July 2016: Dr. Strange
May 2017: Thor 3
July 2017: Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
Nov 2017: Inhumans
May 2018: Avengers 3
-----------------------------
July 2018: Black Panther
Nov 2018: Captain Marvel
May 2019: Iron Man 4

Wouldn't they have Ant-Man 2 in 2018? I mean, if the first one makes money then it will turn into a trilogy.

The biggest question to putting everything in place is whether Avengers 3 will release May 2018 or May 2019. That film will mark the end of phase 3. May 2018 was the last date they added to this slate. An Antman 2 movie, if there is to be one, would be in phase 4. If Avengers 3 is May 2019, then this is a long phase 3. But they added that May 2018 date later as if it was going to be another film. Hard to tell.

G'day,

Why?

The simplest origin story would be to have Carol meet Walter Lawson ( the Kree Captain Mar-vell) , have some adventure with him then get zapped by the ray the kills Mar-vell and gives her his super duper genes. The spaceship/computer/whatever, recognizes her as the Kree captain because she has his genes and calls her Captain Marvel. Done.

I hope Marvel doesnt release two team movies on the same year, Im talking about Guardians 2 and Inhumans. Would preffer Thor 2, Guardians and a new solo character.
This way, the team movie feels a bit more special that year, right? And we'd get a big introduction of a new awaited character.

I think it would work. Avengers is a team up movie of earths greatest heroes.

Inhumans is basically a story about family and isolation.

So you're implying that by Sony canceling TASM4, Marvel decided to bump Avengers 3 up by three slots? That makes no sense. I feel like the 2018 date is going to be a Hulk, Black Widow or Captain Marvel film. Also remember that Marvel is going to want as many Avengers as possible before Avengers 3 since that's going to be Infinity Gauntlet.

Also, I don't see two Ant-Man movies in Phase 3. Partially since he's a risk. Partially since the first film has had a troubled production. Partially since Kevin Feige has name dropped Captain Marvel, Inhumans and Black Panther. Keep in mind that Marvel Studios is also talking about a solo film for Black Widow, talk of Iron Man 4 after Phase 3 and there's a script for a Blade reboot. Why focus on a character with a nearly nonexistent rogue's gallery in favor of somebody who has a great one?

Avengers 3 never had an announced date, so there's no reason to believe it got bumped forward a year. I think the implication is that Marvel wants to keep each movie Phase with roughly the same number of movies (so six or seven, not ten) and wants to get an Avengers movie out every three years since they're the big event film. The theory is they were going to settle for the July date but, as soon as the May date opened up (which is a traditional time slot for Avengers) they bumped it up two months. That makes a ton of sense really. Certainly more than "no sense."

I don't think they want to introduce as many characters as possible before Avengers 3 because that could make the movie unwieldy. To me, it makes more sense to introduce them after A3 so they can have more room to breathe in A4.

...then maybe 9 films to a phase after that with Avengers films in 2022, 2025 and 2028 ?

Of all the lists I've seen, I find this most agreeable, and pretty much what I came to post.

Also, with the confirmation that Doctor Strange's origin will be told in flashbacks, I'm guessing that Black panther is going to skip the origin entirely and begin with T'Challa as king while Captain Marvel will have Mahr-Vell die halfway through the movie and Carol steps into the lead so the damseled love interest has to become the real hero of the story.

How I think it'll go down:

July 8th, 2016 - Doctor Strange (this is pretty much confirmed now)
May 5th , 2017 - Thor: Ragnarok
July 28th, 2017 - Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (confirmed; I also hope that rumor of Hulk in this movie ends up being true)
November 3rd, 2017 - Captain Marvel
May 4th, 2018 - The Inhumans
July 6th, 2018 - Black Panther (hopefully)
November 2nd, 2018 - Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet, Part I
May 3rd, 2019 - Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet, Part II

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out like this.

Would be perfect for my personal wants were Iron Man 4 or Hulk 2 taking Inhumans place...

Damn Inhumans! :argh:

:oldrazz:

Wouldn't it require a contract negotiation to split Avengers 3 into two releases?

I am pretty sure a Captain America 3 will happen in Phase 3

This deserves applause. This line up is perfect

cap 3 is already confirmed for may 5 2016

Ant-Mans confirmed too, both were clearly just left since they're not necessary to be speculated about

Good looking out I didnt notice the dates missing

I hope not. T'Challa has far too compelling of an origin to just skip over.

And Shoppy's list is pretty much perfect, in my opinion.
