Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 3

Interesting, could we be looking at an Arkham Origins type of story here where Batman is a known force in Gotham but clearly has not met his Joker or Two-Face yet, maybe has an uneasy alliance with Jim Gordon...

Agree! I feel like the whole prequel idea just creates more problems than it solves.

Pretty much.

Well if the 25-30 years old thing is true, I guess I'll put my weight behind Richard Madden. I don't know who else to name at this point. Spit-balling actors to play Batman was already tough enough. We're now getting into an age-bracket where it's damn near impossible. :funny:

Exactly :hehe:

Even Madden is 32 and assuming this doesn't come out til 2021, he'll be 35. Not that he'd be too old but that could be pushing it..

I like what I’m hearing. This is very interesting and is totally in line with Reeves’ comments about his intended emphasis on the noir-ish detective elements of Batman

I hope it’s not too inspired by Year One. Batman Begins already did that story so well

I don’t want this to be an origin. But I’m happy with this being very early days for Bats. Take Batman 89 or BTAS. Those started with an established Batman that was still fairly new. They should go for that approach

If it's inspired by Year One in terms of tone, that's okay I suppose. I just don't want to see a movie about Gordon getting to know Batman, him training, making the suit, etc. Just go right to Batman action.

Didn’t the Affleck version feature numerous villains? Maybe they kept that part and this is less Year One and more Long Halloween.

I support Robert Pattinson

Pats as Bats, Ethan Hawke or Sterling K. Brown as Gordon, Andre Holland as Harvey Dent.

I'm fine with getting a rookie Batman again, provided that they don't revisit the origin.

Well, if Jack Huston and Gyllenhaal are too old for what he's looking for, looks like Oscar Isaac is out. :hehe:

Along with just about everyone else we've been fan-casting thus far. I don't even know where to start now...

The origin elements are really what make me nervous. I would hope all parties involved have the wisdom to not tread over that ground again.

So are we just never getting a JL/crossover movie again? It just seems short sighted to plant a new Batman firmly in the past and be significantly younger than the BvS/JL Batman. They could have easily just cast a guy in his mid-30s and just make the movie, without having to bend over backwards to cross them over in a few years.

Was hoping with the whole "detective noir" angle they keep saying that the main inspirations would be The Long Halloween and Dark Victory...

Also Harvey Dent for the third time? Yawn

Two-Face is my favorite Batman villain and while I’ve loved the versions(Yes, even Tommy Lee Jones) we’ve had already, I’m still waiting for him to be done properly.

So this news is exciting to me. :D

I like Harvey too, I just feel like we already had a good version with TDK, and there is whole list of Batman villains who either haven't been done right or done at all yet that should be taking priority.

Well, he was barely in TDK. And he was more Mad-Face than Two-Face.:oldrazz:

Year One and Dent again?

I really hope the whole "flashback" or "set in the past" thing isn't true. Leaves it open for Affleck but what happens if they want a Batman cameo in a future film? Like Flash or something...
There’s no reason for him to appear in The Flash solo.
They need to forget about shared universe cameos right now.

Sorry but I think Hoechlin is a better Superman than Cavill. He captured the character better in 2 episodes than Cavill has in 3 movies. Cavill just has the better suit.

I think he could do a good job as Bruce too.

Hoechlin was playing a static supporting character who was over a decade into his superhero career. Cavill and Hoechlin were practically playing different characters.

I know there really isn't a reason for it. It was more of a hypothetical

lol, of course Jack Huston would be up for Two-Face. :hehe:

But yeah, this is exactly what I didn't want. Nolan basically just gave us a Year One trilogy. The last thing I wanted, was another Year One approach/inspiration.

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Year One and Dent again?

Nolan's series is hardly a Year One adaptation, it'll be unlikely Reeves retreads the same paths.

Dent could factor in as a larger supporting role for the duration of whole series, rather than his entire trajectory being condensed into one film. Gordon could take on a more hand-on role with his own plot threads, rather than simply being an ancillary player. Batman's threats and activities could be more street level rather than the grandeur displays of the previous series. Neo-noir and detective elements would be a highlight more than the spectacle, etc.

While I myself have been tired of the constant Frank Miller adoration, Y1 is still a book not too many adaptations have mined from. Not in any significant way, from my view.
