MCU X-Men - Part 3

And the X-Men franchise has been making political statements since the 60s during the Civil Rights marches. Doing it because of diversity is perfectly in line with the message of the series

Exactly!

Plus, art should be making people think about social/political/human issues.

Lots of posts in here making me wonder if people even get the point of the X-men and what they stand for.

And conversely, what is so good about it? Too many categories dividing people already and I'm supposed to care about who other people have sex with? Too many people spent far too much time worrying about other people's sex lives as it is. To base the entire worth of a character on who they have sex with makes them a pretty weak character.

"Hi! I'm gay!"
Do you think mutants are a category dividing people and therefore the movie shouldn't depict any mutants?

It always shocks me. Not only not getting the point of the X-Men, but also the lack of social sensibility we often see here.

Hopefully the MCU X-Men can bring an even more strong and loud message. Putting the minorities front and center will already be a good start.

Many people will avoid the mcu reboot if they get to PC/SJW with it. Im all for diversity but i disageee with the notion that xmen have to be the franchise to do it with. Theres a time and a place for it. If the story or character calls for it or its in the source material. Great! Just dont force it.

I don't have a problem with Bobby being gay, but then he should just be gay, no coming out of the closet, no dealing with homophobia. That's what the mutant concept is for.

But... That's the ESSENTIAL nature of the franchise. It's not even debatable. The Mutants are a metaphor for any number of ostracized, oppressed or disenfranchised community who are targeted or exploited simply for who they are. This has always been the case and Claremont's take simply amplified that aspect. It's understandable that as a mythology that explored these issues that there are wide swaths of fans that would like to see the franchise live up to the ideals it espouses. And I say that as someone that would like the MCU version to start with the original five and Xavier. But I totally get why some would, for the sake of diverse representation, want a wider net cast in terms of the backgrounds of the characters chosen, just as an example.

Ummm, the X-Men is literally the perfect; maybe even the best franchise Marvel has - to depict more minorities and representation because it is the running theme throughout dozens of X-Men stories. It was tailor made using the real life struggle that minorities go through around the world i.e Oppression, bigotry and discrimination. There's a reason why soo many X-Men villains/antagonists are mutant hating bigots (Stryker and the Purifiers, Senator Kelly, Marauders, Church of Humanity etc etc)

The lack of understanding of what this franchise has always been about is crazy. I mean "SJW"? And "Political correctness"? The tone deaf nature of these two terms when applied to a franchise like X-Men that was literally based on the Civil Rights movement and the ideological struggle between MLK and Malcom X is astounding.

Yes, it is in the source material. And like Krypton said above, that's not even debatable.

Plus, did people avoid the MCU Spiderman with that ethnically diverse cast? Or was it the second high grossing Spider-Man movie?

(And Spider-Man is not even about diversity and intolerance like the X-Men are)

Many people apparently don’t have the slightest idea what the X-Men are actually about.

Would love to see an X-Men lineup that looks like this.

There's also Black Panther- An All-black cast which is now the third highest grossing film of all time in America and the second highest grossing film this year worldwide. Yeah, I'm sure people will not watch an MCU X-Men film because of Diversity and "SJW"-ism :whatever:

I would love it.

If there is a place in the Marvel Universe to celebrate diversity, it certainly is the X-Men franchise. And if we've seen diversity even in the Spider-Man cast, we'll surely see in the X-Men. A lot.

in the grand scheme of things, those are all relatively supporting characters. In the X-franchise, it would be like changing the races of Moira McTaggert, Val Cooper, Amanda Sefton and Toad

The perfect lineup would be:

Cyclops
Jean Grey
Beast
Storm
Wolverine
Rogue
Gambit

Everyone else can be on the peripheral, or subsequently join up in sequels or splinter groups.

Okay then, so how about a lineup like this:

- Cyclops
- Marvel Girl
- Storm
- Forge
- Jubilee
- Northstar
I'd personally like to start with the first class.

I would say that I do think casting a different race for certain characters is fine.

Lol at the X-men *not* being the time and the place for diversity.

That art should be making people think about political issues.

Uh... huh...

Because this is something that ONLY happens today. It's not been the case with art for the entirety of human existence? Are... Are you honestly proffering this opinion in the face of the history of the civilized world going back thousands of years? Poems, plays, songs and yes in the modern context, television programming and films have ALWAYS had political content in some form. Not all poems, plays, songs or movies and TV shows, obviously, but acting as though this is something that's out of bounds for art is frankly silly in the extreme.

gotta give credit to Fox and Singer how they handled diversity. it wasnt in your face it was subtle albeit sometimes metaphorical.
