The Mandalorian Chapter Ten Spoiler Discussion

We gotta remember how she came into Mando's orbit though. He saved her life and gave her WAY more money than she was owed in her first appearance. She's shady, but loyal and grateful.

I agree... There's not much to her but I think as a supporting character she's fine and so far it makes sense how they use her to me.
I thought she was a bit much in chapter 5, but I think she's been a decent supporting character this season.

I enjoyed this episode a lot more than expected after hearing the criticisms. Loved the Aliens/Lost in Space vibe with the spiders. And Yoby doing what he was doing I couldn’t help but find funny.

Loved the X-Wing Chase also, just love this show.

Same. I deemed it "filler, but fun filler".

My boss was much less impressed with it than with the premiere episode though, for what it's worth.

It's funny, my parents who I let have access to my D+ account thought the premiere was boring and this episode was much better

The egg gag was funny the first time. After the Frog Woman's cry for help with the translator, the rest of the attempts were pretty dark after you think about it for a minute (though I chuckled at first at the end). I'll be curious to see how she plays into the next episode, and how her information pays off. Overall the episode went pretty fast for me, curious to see if it sets something up for the next one. If they drop it though it'll seem like it was a waste.

I hated it, and now I hate the Sith Lord child.

This is Star Wars, not Star Trek, so baby Yoda eating a species’s eggs is fine. Baby Yoda already force chocked someone so it’s not like he doesn’t have a dark side. But he’s innocent. He doesn’t know what he’s doing is wrong.

More importantly, I laughed.

Maybe one can’t question the morals of an infant, but you can certainly question Favreau’s writing for trying to invoke empathy in the viewer for Frog Lady’s struggle, yet at the same time making a gag out of it.

Especially when you have a scene where Frog Lady outright says “Hey, just because you can’t understand me doesn’t mean I’m any less valid than you.”

It doesn’t really work, and I can see why some viewers were turned off by Baby Yoda’s behaviour.

I agree with that. I said in my review that they make her too sympathetic to make it a throwaway gag.

Yup there is a Funko Pop of it. You can preorder the Funko Pop of The Child eating Frog Lady's babies.

My guess is that Favreau who wrote the episode, and Peyton Reed who directed it, probably just saw it as a funny gag. They were probably too close to the show to have the self-awareness of this being a very dark, unfunny joke and that some people would react this way.

Also, I guess because the eggs are "unfertilized" they viewed them as not alive now.

I don’t find it unfunny.

And sure she’s sympathetic. But she also looks like this...

I mean, the whole thing is kind of goofy to begin with.

Eating one egg probably would have been fine but when it leans into at least half a dozen... it not only gets old but it does get a little too dark. This is the last of her line and seemingly they are an endangered species but let's go make a joke about baby Yoda eating a whole bunch of them well past the point it would still be funny.

I think it would've been fine if he TRIED to eat one and was made to spit it back out and maybe tries to get in to eat it again but gets stopped. Like Scar trying to eat Zazu in Lion King. They took it too far.

I do think it's still funny with a dark undertone. They're unfertilised, so it's not like him eating a sentient being. More like eating a placenta. The implications aren't really immediate as they'll only be fertilised once she delivers them to her mate.

Calling him a baby Sith Lord is kinda funny though.

Unfertilized or not, those were the last eggs she could produce. There will be no more eggs and unfertilized or not, that was still bordering on homicide. Their lineage and potentially species depends on those eggs and baby Yoda treated them like snacks.
