He-man Sequel Series (Netflix)

I have to agree about Teela being unlikeable at times. Especially two big moments stuck out for me
when Adam just died, she basically makes it all about her... she's pissed off that she's the only one who didn't know his secret. Then when Orko dies, she takes it out on Evil-Lyn and she's all "it should've been you" :whatever: That just makes me like Evil-Lyn even more. (And dislike Teela, I don't think she even apologized for it)
Hell, she could mentally enslave an entire town at this point and we'd be expected to like and understand/accept this as she is upset...

I need to let that go :hehe:

Yeah, maybe you shouldn't watch She-ra. Season 4 would be too much for you to handle.

I get not liking her reaction after Adam's death. But her preferring Evil-lyn dying over Orko? Her friend? Really?

Did she have to say anything though? Well, it seems to be in character for her. And that aspect imo is unlikable. Not unreasonable or unnatural, unexpected or unrealistic.... Unlikeable *shrugs*

Teela being the focus would be tolerable if they actually made her a likable character and didn't give her such an atrocious design, because I'll just say it sidecuts have never looked good, any character that has one looks 10 times more punchable for that fact alone.

IMDB lists Chris Wood for all 10 episodes so I knew before that Kevin Smith tweet that Adam does not die in episode 5 (the usual suspects on YT of course claim that) and that the season would be 10 episodes.

You know, im sitting here, drinking this all in and im wondering if its either true that being on the internet really makes people dumber or if those incel clowns like yellowflash, critical drinker etc are really effective in poisoning peoples minds that easy.

Because i see stuff like people not getting Teelas writing and im sitting here going: "What? How? Its just 5 episodes of basic and simple storytelling"
I mean dude, of course you are not supposed to be overly into Teela in terms of the character...the Woman instead of facing the pain of loss, betrayal etc decided to be angry at everything and everybody...that is not a likeable attitude.
Its not like the stumbled the character into this, this is simple storytelling to go from A to B in terms of character growth.

Or what i see too is people being upset that she is pissed at evil lyn...ehm you mean the backstabbing trickster character we cant be sure has changed her ways, despite us seeing and finding out more about her than Teela?
Really, that is looking really for some like a good criticism?

This is He-Man for the love of god, not shakespeare with tons of twists and turns.
How the hell can people not follow and understand a simple 5 episode development?

This is a sequel to a glorified toy commercial show with paper thin motivations and characters...who in his right mind expected more from the characters?
I mean what the hell did people expect from Skeletor as a motivation? He is evil and wants power for the love of all that is pure in this world.

Teelas character design complain, yeah yeah we get it...buff women scare fragile guys...no big deal, something we have to live with sadly.

I get the feeling this is one of those things were people either listen too much to the outcry than focusing on what goes on in front of the screen or mainly just want to be angry at for no real reason.

At least the most common complaints i have seen so far, look to me almost too much like copy and paste, as if people just repeat what they read and heard instead of it being their own thoughts.

I get the thing about Smith and the Marketing making a mess of things, that i can understand.
But it also seems like people blow this up a bit.
Because which movie, show, game is doing a perfect job?
Either they spoil too much, show too little, paint a different picture, set a tone that the product then doesnt have etc.

In the end it is what it is, some like it and some not...to each their own i guess.
Personally im super happy we get new He-Man stuff in 2021...who would have thought that ever being the case.
I really hope this leads to the Franchise become big again and a steady thing in various entertainment sectors.

As a fellow She-Ra on Netflix fan I have to ask...

Where is this coming from that MOTU fans were looking at Smith as some franchise savior to bash the Adora show? Because I remember Revelations announcement turning fans against this project right from the jump.

Also...

Anyone here old enough to have experienced The Death Of Superman/Reign Of The Supermen when it was originally being put out monthly in the 90's?

I bring it up because some of the same fan phenomena we see today was apparent then but without social media didn't get the magnifying power the Internet grant just about everything.

Superman also "dies" and a slice of fans and the general public at first loses the minds, forgetting that from Sherlock Holmes to Jean Grey to Spock... We'd been here before.

Not to mention copyright holders are unlikely to give up a product that brought them billions of dollars over the years.

Then the resurrection part kicks in but... The one true Superman is still off the board with four pretenders running around. If you took that at face value (Not sure why anyone over the age of 12 would...?) and couldn't wrap your head around the obvious trajectory of the story and bailed thinking "Oh noes... Da Superman is dead forever and these imposters are gonna RUIN Da Superman legacy FOREVER AND EVER!" then you'd miss Superman coming back in all his caped glory.

I swear it's like people just aren't allowed dislike things anymore.

Maybe there are folk out there that DISAGREE with the reasoning and criteria your dislike is based upon and when one decides to put that out in a literal public forum you consent to having your opinion itself be criticized so...

Yeah.

Wow that said basically nothing.

I mean, you are. Nothing wrong with disliking something. Much as I am free to hate Infinity War. And when I post about it, I don't exactly expect my minority opinion to go unchallenged. Frankly, it would be boring conversation for everyone to have the same opinion.

I think many ignored the Teela rumors at the start because of the hype over the animation studio, who was riding high on Castlevania hype.

People are allowed to dislike whatever they like. But if you are going to express what you dislike, and it strikes a very specific and common tone, others are going to notice.
What specific tone?
I can't find Teela unlikable, I can't find it disappointing that the main character of the franchise was sidelined, I can't find wrong the creator lied about the focus for months?
Because just about half the time people are just proclaiming everyone who didn't like it as having some political agenda, or just dismissing it by calling He-Man a toy commercial that people shouldn't feel strongly about.

You don't have to like the female lead. But when you hit it with the classic, "the woman is unlikable" and then complain about how she looks? I mean, what do you expect? We aren't on 4Chan or the comment section of a Quartering video. I have issues with the show and expressed them, without complaining about how no one can express themselves anymore.

I expect that I'm allowed my own opinions on how the character is written and designed without needing to be lumped in with morons like the quartering.

No one can say that he lied until the entire first season is released. He-Man was in the first episode, he was in flashbacks, Adam was in the last episode, He-Man saved everyone, he restored magic to the universe but even though he wasnt necessarily saving the day for 3 of those episodes...we still got 5 to go.

I saw someone state how they hated the show because He-Man never showed up. I was very confused about the show I watched.

Maybe Smith should've just called this "Teela," so everyone would know what they were getting into. It seems like this is all leading up to Teela taking the power sword and making her the next champion. I can already imagine He-Man telling her "no not me, now you have the power," kind of like what they did to Superman in the CW Supergirl show...

It isnt titled He-man so no need to title it Teela even if that is what they may possibly do.

I know, that's probably why they left He-Man out of it. That's also what people were saying when the story first leaked.

You are allowed your opinion and to express it. And others are allowed to have theirs. The only one complaining about others having an opinion in this discussion thread is you. If you don't want to have a discussion on a discussion board, then don't have a discussion. Others don't have to abide by that.

Wow that said basically nothing.

Dude/Dudette/Your choice of terminology...

You need a claw hammer to get off that cross you've nailed yourself to or something? Go to Home Depot. They got a wide assortment.

That's strange, I don't recall ever saying anyone can't like it meanwhile there are multiple people in this thread they are demeaning and devaluing other reasons for not liking the series.

He Man basically isn't in the show.
If all they give him two episodes and then brief flashbacks that's really nothing to be excited about.
