Official UFC Thread - Part 8

Michael Bisping got back to work tonight on commentary

If he's not gonna let his hands go, Tyron needs to retire.

Good point. He got rocked early, which might have effected him tonight. But overall, he seems far too hesitant a fighter now.

If he were smart, he'd retire. I don't know if he still does it on the US broadcasts, but he seems like he could have a career outside of the cage as an analyst or commentator if he wanted. He's 38 years old, he's won a UFC title & there's nothing really else he can or needs to prove as a fighter IMO.

If he does try & take another run at the WW title, it's got to be him vs Colby. Those 2 can't talk this much **** to each other over the last few years & never fight.

Agreed, he's very good announcing and to me it just seems like that fire is gone. He's been more tactical and less explosive for a while now, but the Usman "fight" was troubling and the Burns match even more so.

I just don't think he has any appetite for this anymore, and it's not like Dana has any love for him either. He's an ultra talented athlete, but it's never too late to get knocked out and hurt really bad.

When Cody keeps his emotions in check & stays cool in the cage, he is a dangerous mofo.

In many ways he's kinda similar to Gaethje in that it's only when they get excited & get involved in these wild brawls that they end up getting punished.

He's won one fight in 3 years, and was fighting someone well past their prime.

I was excited for last night's card, but it ended up feeling like a lot of mismatches.

Fight Island looks alright even if it didn't end up looking a stage in Tekken or Street Fighter. I just wish that they went see through with the panels of the dome.

Should have just got it sorted with Jorge to begin with & got this **** sorted sooner, now he's had to take a contest on a weeks notice which does put a bit of a dampener on the whole thing if I'm honest.

To be fair, that was his fault. I think now he was worried because Covington was also coming for that title shot after he already lost out to Burns. :funny:

I honestly don't think Covington legitimately would have the stones to fight Usman on such short notice after what happened the first time around.

Even if Usman took him down & lay on him for 5 rounds, which he does have a habit of doing, people won't care about short notice or not. All they'll see is 0-2 vs the reigning champion & unless you go on an ultra impressive run decimating the rest of the division, it's hard to really make a case for the 3rd rematch IMO.

I don't like the short notice, it's basically a built in excuse for the loser.

That said...

If Usman tries to stand and trade he's getting stopped. Period.

20lbs weight cut in 6 days. That's some serious "I know my body" type of belief right there.

I am not sure about that. That said, I don't expect him to do that. He should be in there to wrestle and grind Jorge down.

My head says Usman wins, my heart is rooting for Masvidal, though.

I think taking him down is the optimal, easier way to get the job done. And I do believe if it goes that way, he'll get the victory without much trouble.

BUT I just have a feeling, given the animosity, that he might try to stand. I'm not saying he has no hands at all, and he's obviously tough, I just can't see him winning like that...

I get you. Personally I think if he wanted to knock him out, he should spend at least a few rounds wearing Jorge down. If he does that, he'd probably have a much better chance.

Very much depends on what sort of conditioning Jorge has, if any, and if he was actively training on the off chance he might be able to step in should someone drop out. He naturally does seem to have a good gas tank in pretty much every fight I've seen him in a bit like Bisping.

If I were Usman, I'd try to exclusively grapple & take him down to try & wear Jorge down if possible. He's not had a full camp so it's likely his conditioning presumably won't be where it should be. Also because Jorge is a far more experienced & skilled striker than Usman.

Usman always seems kinda wooden on the feet to me, he got tagged an awful lot vs Covington as well who's not a renowned striker, if he gets tagged that often by Jorge I'd be surprised if he lasts.

I would like to see Jorge win, however I think Usman will win, I think he'll grind it out with his wrestling. Even if there was a crowd I don't think he'd give a **** if they were booing him out of the place for doing so, I think he cares more about the win than dismantling people.
