Comics Amazing Spider-Man #1 (ugh) By Ryan Ottley! and Nic Spencer

I think there's been way too many hints and nudges at OMD throughout this entire run for it not to be building up to addressing that elephant in Spidey fandom. Judging by the interview with Spencer and how he handled the Kindred reveal by giving us all the clues and playing fairly with it, I feel like all the OMD stuff has to be as purposeful.

Like seriously, all the times Peter has said how he feels something is missing in his life, or how he feels like he can't remember something when showing a shot of his hand not having a wedding ring, all the people mentioning deals with devils (even just in #50 in regards to Spidey's actions in #850), Kindred conspiring to keep MJ away from Peter as soon as they finally reconcile and grow closer again, and Kindred knowing Peter's biggest sin which even he doesn't seem to remember. Especially given who Kindred is and what they've told us how what they want is more important of a question.

Picked up ASM 50. LR
This was a damn good issue.

I honestly went into it with low expectations seeing as how I’m never a fan of these “side stories” branching away from the main plot. However this issue actually felt important. Great read. I’m really liking that the pacing seems to have picked up...

Oh.....and that ending ....
Mary Jane returning....About time!

It’s a shame that I feel like some readers might have been fatigued from the Kindred reveal taking so long (me being one of them)....because this particular issue was a very good read.

Hearing some whispers that there are some more OMD teases or references in this weeks issue...

Damn won’t be able to get it until tomorrow.....Hopefully Spencer isn’t just tugging at my heart and stringing me along....

Oh, man....I so need to get to the shop! I'll have a nice handful of books to pick up! 50LR, 50, and DD...which guest stars Spidey.

Issue 50.LR and 51...

I'm not sure where to begin. I'll just start with the art cause it's easy...so good! I'm not overly familiar with Federico Vicentini but man, such a good mix of character and action/scenery. His motion was great too. I'm much less concerned about Ottley not being on the book anymore. As for Gleason, he's absolutely slaying it! I can't say enough good things about his art.

Now for the story,
I was worried the LR issues would be needless filler and maybe that might happen but the first one set my mind at ease. So entertaining and enjoyable. It might not be required reading but at that level I wouldn't want to miss it. Solid stuff.

51 was probably the best issue or at least a top 3 of Spencer's run thus far. I felt like I was reading JMS era Spidey, the good stuff. The callbacks to JMS with Strange and the callbacks to Kraven's last hunt were nice touches. Seeing Spidey and Kindred in the same room together at the end was money. This is what Spencer has been building to and I can't wait to see the payoff. I'm expecting a verbal onslaught towards Peter about his mistakes and 'sins' and who knows what else. I was kinda upset about Strange throwing Spidey out but I do love how Spidey planned ahead and Black Cat stepped in to help. Seeing him using the Vashanti again only this time recognizing how he's grown as a person and changed...recognizing his mistakes. And once again Strange makes reference to OMD and the arrangement Peter made with a demon.

Spencer has really kicked it into high gear...this issue easily gets an A.

I can’t even begin to state how much I loved this issue. Spencer is hitting a high note with this at the moment. I literally had goosebumps reading this.

Gleason has some Bagley tendencies in his artwork. No complaints from me there since Bagley is the “GOAT” to me. My god what amazing artwork. Spidey hasn’t looked this good in a long time. The artwork is gorgeous from start to finish.

Again I need to gather my thoughts. What a read!

and I don’t care if I’m getting my hopes up or what but.....
This is addressing OMD. I’m not even speculating anymore. At this point it’s flat out factual.

This is the best ASM has been in what seems like forever....Don’t know what else to say...

I agree with everything UWH and raging has said. I haven’t read a Spidey issue like THIS in a while. Ever since this SINS arc, his run has been good, but #51 was really good. Spencer is really really doing it re:
OMD

That scene with

Mary Jane telling Peter “the answer is yes” what is she necessarily talking about? I’ve heard some say it’s a premonition to the future with her saying yes to a proposal from Peter and I’ve heard others saying it’s a throw back to that scene in OMD

I still have my issues with Spencer in terms of taking too long to get this ball rolling. However can’t complain about what I’m reading. Like I’ve already said, Spiderman hasn’t been this good in very long time.

I agree that the scene with MJ is either a reference to OMD or it's a reference to Peter's attempted proposal to MJ in ASM 25 of this run, I think. I'm not sure if that's the exact issue...off the top of my head though.

That said, imo, it's referencing OMD. Partly because Kindred has been specifically targeting Peter's past mistakes and sins and well, of course OMD is right in that scope. But mostly because of the imagery. The crumbling rock around Peter and MJ with their hands outstretched and not quite touching each other but almost makes me think of OMD. Specifically the cover with Peter and MJ trying to reach for one another and separated by a large hunk of rock. That's my reasoning anyway for thinking it's an OMD reference.

Not reading the book but I predict that
Peter and Mary Jane will regain their memories of the deal but Mary Jane will not want to marry him now. And/or Aunt May will die.

Got to say that I wasn’t that impressed with this weeks AsM 52.lr. Felt like a bit of a pit stop for the story. Nothing really happened and the story didn’t really move forward at all.

Also why the hell was
Morlun lurking around the sewers like was Vermin or something?

Anyway The preview for the next ASM looks amazing.

Okay, I'm up to date now. Wow....just...wow.
There is NO WAY this is not leading to at least an acknowledgement on One More Day. There is simply too much from it. That is what brought Harry back, it's the only "sin" Peter has lingering around that no one speaks of...it's just gotta happen. I feel like Hawkeye in Endgame. "Don't do that....don't give me hope".

I'm daring to dream.

Ahem. Also, the art has been KILLING it! Gleason has taken the top spot for me in these Spidey books with a quickness. I couldn't be happier. Also...no Ramos in the past 4 issues mean the book has maintained it's dramatic appearance. I mean, I don't hate Ramos, but his artwork throws the vibe of the book off towards the cartoony and silly...same with Bachalo over the last few years.

So, yeah...pretty happy with all of this.

Ramos needs to stay away from Spider-Man forever lol. His style is just too different and doesn’t fit at all. Completely ruins the immersion factor when reading his comics.

Gleason is killing it no question about it....but top spot? Even though Bagleys art quality isn’t what it once was...the dude still reigns supreme. Lol

Not to take anything away from the awesomeness that is Bagley but imo I feel like Gleason is a great artist and probably the better choice of the two for Last Remains. He seems better at the creep factor. I'm really happy Marvel made the move to hire Gleason...he's doing a fantastic job. Though if I had any criticism about his art, it's that I think he draws Peter to look a little too young. A nitpick really.

51.LR was a filler issue but it sets up some interesting dynamics.
MJ having a discussion with Norman, Black Cat gaming up with 'Steve' Strange and Sin Eater going after Morlun.

Filler yes, but still enjoyable.

Read both 52 and 52.LR.....

Two really good issues. The art continues to satisfy, Gleason still hitting home runs in the main title and Vicentini doing a bang up job in the tie in. And Spencer has got to be like the hardest working writer right now. Churning out all these issues can't be easy especially with how well they're scripted.

I will say I feel like after reading them you should definitely read 52 first and then 52.LR. But it'd work the other way too.

The dialogue between Kindred and Peter was perfect. I honestly wanted more of it. The fight between them was brutal in more ways than one. Kindred is definitely one of the tougher opponents Spidey has faced for sure. Peter's sacrifice shows that even though he's committed so many 'sins' he's still a good person and looks out for others more than himself. I hope he uses that argument against Kindred in the upcoming issues. It's a bit disheartening to hear all this talk about how Peter is so horrible. I just hope Peter doesn't come out of a cocoon again when he eventually beats Kindred. And seeing Ben's skeleton gave me goosebumps. The creep factor is overwhelmingly good.

The convo between MJ and Norman was excellent. Even better when she didn't believe him and smashed a vase over his head. Kafka being there was a nice touch. The Order of the Web coming back to themselves was great and the realization that they caused the destruction. Also enjoyed seeing Black Cat stand on her own within the group. Near the end Strange refers to 'something not being right' on the Astral plane and talks about threats. Then we see a red headed figure perched upon a ledge overlooking the group. I wonder who or what that might be.

ASM #53:
I know I keep saying, but it’s the biggest treat for me, always, when Bagley is able to guest on an issue. His art is so easy to track and idk how Spencer and him work, but the script I thought was also “easy” and straightforward.

The whole issue is a dream sequence, a sequence taken out of — is it OMD? Or the events leading up to? I’ve only read OMIT and OMD once so the sequence was really familiar — but besides the point, this issue to me, felt like the “in your face” “yes, we’re doing it, guys” and I really enjoyed it. Spencer is handling the intrigue well imo, with Harry claiming it’s what he wants, not who he is, that matters. This is hands down my favorite arc that Spencer had written on this run.

ASM #53.LR:
Man, what an entertaining, gripping, and fun issue. Everything from Sin-Eater/Morlun to the GHOSTBUSTERS references. Good “side issue”. I’m curious to read this w/o reading the LRs and seeing if it’s still good/how one would perceive it..

Yeah, I'm all caught up now, and I'm completely pumped.
There is no way One More Day isn't getting undone, or at least rewritten to make a little more sense. The Harry party scene was from the final pages of One More Day. I remember it well because I put the issue back on the shelf, and walked away upon seeing with my own eyes that Spidey made a deal with a demon/devil, and that it resulted in Peter being a man-baby on Aunt May's couch again while Harry's most noble death was undone.

Spencer has the attention of myself and a lot of longtime Spidey readers right now. If he pulls the trigger and starts putting some of the characters back in the ground and puts Peter and MJ back to being a solid item, I'm going to just jump for joy. This will be like watching the last remnants of a corrupt regime get washed away. I'm down for that.

This is seriously the best that Spider-Man comics have been in a really long time. The intensity and excitement that I have for this story is palpable...and imo this has the makings of one of the all-timers for a 'best of' list or 'must read' list of Spidey stories.

Yeah, that sequence from issue 53 is from the final few pages of OMD. Though because Peter is essentially living the story over again, there's some differences. Like Peter trying to reach MJ and calling out to her.

Anyone familiar with Spider-Man comics, it's so obvious at this point that OMD is finally going to be addressed or rectified. I'm not entirely sold there will be a full retcon. But at the very least everything that happened within that story will be made known to Peter and certain things will be changed in a way to lessen the effect that it had on his life.

I'm hoping that we at LEAST get to a point where Peter realizes the hefty consequences and the unfathomable sacrifice that happened because he couldn't let Aunt May go. He gave up his marriage, and it cost him a daughter he may never know. That weight should at least be known. Harry knows that, and I'm sure that is part of why Harry is lashing out. He sacrificed his life to save Peter's, and Peter just...throws is away. He wants vengeance. Sounds like Osborn 101.

Absolutely, brother. I definitely think at the end Peter will be aware of what happened. I think that's exactly why Harry is pissed and is upset with Peter. I think he's gonna reveal everything to Peter and the impact that his choice made and also how terrible a choice it was and still is. Now, I'm not sure what the end result will be. Either just making Peter and MJ aware of what happened or offer another resolution that corrects the past. I gotta wonder if Dr Strange will have a hand in that resolution or correction too. His comment "I knew it" at least to me suggests that he's now aware of OMD and the deal Peter made. Whatever the case, I think we're in for a helluva ending to this arc.

Yes, I think them putting in Strange when they did in the arc might suggest that he'll have a key part in the resolve.

Looks like no new issues until next week. Lame lol. Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

It's fitting since Dr. Strange was in the JMS run in the second arc he did, which connected to OMD, and now it's come full circle to bring him back here.
Either way, I agree that we're in for one awesome ending. The OMD/BND supporters (Dan Slott and like, 2 other people) will probably be unhappy, but I'm fine with that.
