Discussion: Relations with Russia

My guess is that Putin phoned him up and offered to let Elon set up a new Tesla factory in occupied Donetsk, using Ukrainians as slave labour.
I was thinking something like this myself. He's promised something out of it if Ukraine falls.

Flip flop? Geez.... nothing like keeping your troops in top gear for fighting.

This fascist game show masquerading as news always finds someone other than Putin to blame for their failures.

And has anybody looked at a damn map? The last thing Russia needs is more land, they are already the largest country in land mass. They need to develop their country internally and spread the money around instead of the huge gap between the poor and the rich oligarchy. A middle class doesn't really get created without government intervention.

Imagine fleeing in their flip-flips with frostbitten feet in the winter.

You certainly can't blame the Russians for fleeing under those conditions, yes, especially with winter on the way. It just goes to show how little Putin cares for the lives of his people.

While not exactly as fast as the initial Kharkiv offensive, Ukraine is making some significant progress on two fronts. So close to some vital logistics lines in the East, and working on clearing Khershon in the south.

Kharkiv was something of a surprise offensive and you would expect for some offensives to go a little slower and some a little faster. That's just the nature of war. There's going to be low hanging fruit and you can also create it.

Malnourished troops wearing flip flops? Would be better off with civilians using garden tools, travelling by car and feeding themselves with pot noodles.
Seriously. I almost feel bad for these guys. :( They'd be better off surrendering, at least they would get fed.

NY Times - U.S. Believes Ukrainians Were Behind an Assassination in Russia
American officials said they were not aware of the plan ahead of time for the attack that killed Daria Dugina and that they had admonished Ukraine over it.

The closely held assessment of Ukrainian complicity, which has not been previously reported, was shared within the U.S. government last week. Ukraine denied involvement in the killing immediately after the attack, and senior officials repeated those denials when asked about the American intelligence assessment.

While Russia has not retaliated in a specific way for the assassination, the United States is concerned that such attacks — while high in symbolic value — have little direct impact on the battlefield and could provoke Moscow to carry out its own strikes against senior Ukrainian officials. American officials have been frustrated with Ukraine’s lack of transparency about its military and covert plans, especially on Russian soil.

There was no direct military value in that to remove Daria or her even more influential psycho father inside Russia so it doesn't make any sense to me, it shouldn't have happened from their end if that were the case. Sure the message gets sent that such an operation could be pulled off (but flubbed due to Dugin changing vehicles or whatever) inside the core of the Russia but the cost was not worth it. Certainly not yet anyway.

I think they wanted to spook Putin. It was a stupid move. But, I also expect similar things to happen after the war.

The only way it would make sense for Ukraine to have done this would be if:

1.) Aleksandr Dugin was the real target

2.) The Ukrainians believed all the BS about Dugin being "Putin's Brain" and actually having political power.

Its definitely not impossible, but I'm still not convinced. Surely if the Ukrainians were going to do a hit on Russian soil, they would go after someone really important and powerful?

It could have been someone in their intelligence agency being opportunistic. When it happened, things weren't looking quite as good as it was even in the summer.

It does, however, put into different light a lot of the reports I remember of supply depots in Russia going up in flame.

I believe Ukraine claimed, or at least hinted at, responsibility for some of the oil production facilities and supply depots being blown up, but don't remember for sure.

This is what happens when your gangster emperor who wears fancy suits and gives himself titles like president spends the money on himself and on loyalists (on top of others who skim the legally appropriated funds) instead of developing your country internally and sharing the gains from all that energy money.

The rich get richer while the poor people die. It's the same all over. :(
