Man, now THAT'S a story.

Things are getting a little confusing. So, after the tower of joy whispers, and now what happened today, can Bran really affect the past? I asked this a couple of weeks ago and the general opinion was that he couldn't, but now?

It really starts to feel like the endgame is close.

No, it was a fixed event. It always happened, Bran just didn't experience it until then.

i dont see it as him changing anything.... at least thats what i think the point is they are getting across... hodor went crazy back then and now we are seeing why, he technically doesnt change anything.

I'm beginning to wonder if in the Tower of Joy
Bran sees Jon being born and says 'Jon' out loud... giving Ned the name, thus the reveal :sly:

Yes.

[blackout] he saves bran and meera (looks like next ep)[/blackout]

If he's not Coldhands or a variation then they better have

a) a reasonable explanation for how he survived this long.

b) a bloody purpose i.e. not just coming across them by chance.

from what i've been told by a friend...[BLACKOUT]he saves them, escorts them to the wall...then leaves. Not sure of the dialogue or anything so i dont know[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT] Perhaps it's White Hodor? His condition prevented the Night King from controlling him..?[/BLACKOUT]

[BLACKOUT]What's funny? Who's left to burn the body..?[/BLACKOUT]

That sounds encouraging. Why else leave after escorting them to the wall?

Your friend wouldn't be able to help a brother out re Lady Stoneheart? She shouldn't be up for discussion this season but there's too many pieces in place.

you don't need to burn a body when it's torn to pieces. why would they bring back a wight Hodor (who somehow can now ride a horse) to save Bran and Meera after a death like that?

and TheFuture... No.

Someone else gets ressurected by a Red Priest in the Riverlands, and things go...pear shaped for a bunch of those involved with the Stoneheart plot from the books.

Does McShane's cult of peace wipeout the Brotherhood?

I heard that alright, hope it's not true.

I thought the actor for Rikard looked like Jon. Nice touch.

McShane is playing Meribald the same way Teddy Sears is playing "Jay Garrick". Ain't no peace for anyone, cept for the peace of the grave.

Very nice. I'm getting tired of Howland's ****.

D&D say Hodor's name revelation is from Martin and not a show-only creation:

"We had this meeting with George Martin where we're trying to get as much information as possible out of him, and probably the most shocking revelation he had for us was when he told us the origin of Hodor and how that name came about," said Benioff. "I just remember Dan and I looking at each other when he said that and just being like, 'Holy s--t.'"

The origin of Hodor's name and repeated word use came as a consequence of Bran's time travel in the story's present. The Three-Eyed Raven took Bran back to a key scene in Winterfell's courtyard that was previously seen in "Home." But when the Night's King kills the Three-Eyed Raven in the present, Bran is left there alone.

Bran, meanwhile, has also possessed Hodor in the present to help him, Meera and Hodor escape the Weirwood Tree. In the present, Hodor needs to stave off the army of the undead by holding a door closed. Meera yells at him to "hold the door," and because Bran stands as a conduit to the past, the younger version of Hodor -- real name Willis -- hears the words "hold the door" and starts seizing. He repeats the words "hold the door" over and over, until the only word he says is a combination of the three: "Hodor."

"It was just one of the saddest and most affecting things," Weiss said. "Even sitting in a hotel room having someone tell you this was going to happen in the abstract in some way and that 'hold the door' was the origin of the name Hodor, we just thought that was a really, really heart-breaking idea."

To make the reveal even more tragic, Hodor dies holding the door in the present storyline; it could be that being in the presence of Bran at the moment of his death is what caused Willis to seize in the first place.

It's unclear whether this sequence will play out exactly the same way in Martin's forthcoming novel, The Winds of Winter, but at least this is confirmation that the origin isn't a show-only invention. Ultimately it proved to be one of the more satisfying (if upsetting revelations) of the series so far, and probably will make most people regret any "Hodor" jokes they've made to date.

RIP, Hodor.

And Weiss confirms that BloodRaven transferred all his knowledge to Bran before he died:

Said Weiss, "He's got to try to upload all this knowledge into Bran. ... This is happening much, much more rapidly than he thought this was going to happen, and he doesn't really know what it all means, he doesn't know what to make of it all because it's happening under duress. "

Kingsmoot was one of my favourite scenes in the books, the show version was a let down, especially when followed by a writing cameo from Marc Guggenheim with Dany and Jorah.

How about them doing that play which was fun for a bit but then reminded Arya of who she really was... could have been deep... but then they decided on a weird close up of a warty penis :lmao:

So clearly now Bran will go south of the Wall. Carrying that ww mark, breaking the Wall's magic. thus allowing the Ww to destroy it.

Poor Edd.....

I didn't even realize until much later that Richard E. Grant was in that scene.

"hey dave i can't come up with a d*** joke for this episode... how about we throw in an actual d***"

"that's brilliant dan"

Lol I read it in their voices. Dave's exasperated and trying to rein in an overly excited Dan lol lol

Is it bad that the first thing that came to mind with the dick shot - is that Peyronie's or is it a paraphimosis?

And Weiss confirms that BloodRaven transferred all his knowledge to Bran before he died:

Not quite. He confirmed that they were "trying" to do that once BloodRaven realized they were out of time, and obviously this process was interrupted in rather short order by the attack. I don't think it can be assumed that Bran has it all now.
