The Bad Batch Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Season 1 (Spoiler Discussion)

The corner of the universe these shows exist in is just my speed. I love the lore that they play with, and they're good about filling it with characters worth following. I was delighted to find Fallen Order was playing in the same sandbox the other year.

When watching this we thought the woman in Crosshair's squad might be Iden Versio, but I guess not. We haven't seen what her mother looks like, right? :D

Episode 3 felt like the first proper "run of the mill" episode. That said, I still rather enjoyed it.

- The real action this week was on Kamino.

- I really like the idea of the proto stormies being trained by the clones. It makes great sense, and I love the irony of the situation.

- Who are our long neck friends looking for? Is it just the Bad Batch and Omega, or is perhaps first gen clones like Rex and even Boba? Whatever they do, they probably won't succeed, but let's see if they actually die trying.

- Wrecker and Hunter are fighting over best dad status, and I am enjoying it. I am sure it will get old at some point, but those little moments with Omega, where they make her feel wanted and loved are really getting to me, in a good way.

- The wildlife which loves the tech was very cool.

- I wonder if Omega knows enough about the chips, that she will be able to help Tech with Crosshair. Or will they require the intervention of someone else, like Rex?

-Tarkin really loves coming in and making a scene and then delegating. :hehe:
I’m not usually one for too much run of the mill stuff on shows but this one really helped me get into the characters more and feel more of a bond with the show (which I hadn’t felt from the first 2 episodes).

- I’ve always liked the addition of Kamino/Kaminoans to Star Wars lore.

- Yeah I am enjoying this aspect, enjoying the general talk amongst the big bads on how they want to have the best possible army and how to train them.

- How many Kaminoans are there supposed to be? Their place feels kind of small and not very populated. :O I'm hoping Rex has a big part to play and great if Boba is involved too.

- This is one of my favourite parts. These 2 have massively grown on me in this quieter episode.

- Yeah I thought so too.

- I think some kind of tech knowledge or something similar and non-combat orientated is where she will specialise and help the team.

- Haha Tarkin can do no wrong. :D

So... Wrecker's bump on the head is going to come back at some point with a vengeance. Which Jedi is going to push that button?

A good episode all-around, even if the squad's plotline was mostly filler. I still love how they're showing the infrastructure of the Empire expand. The Kaminoans are in for a bad time.
Yes, I knew almost nothing about the premise of this show ahead of time and this is a great surprise. I've always wanted to see this.

With what happened in episode 3, I wonder if Crosshair will be redeemed

Pretty cool to see first generation Stormtroopers. Love their black armor.

Also really liking the family dynamic between Omega and the crew. Very wholesome and innocent.
After Wrecker talking about missing him (and the guys realising that he is likely not in control of his actions), maybe the redemption is on the cards as one of the big story arcs of the season. I can see him having an opportunity to finish them and hearing the "good soldiers follow orders" in his head but finally manage to overcome his programming and save his team. Not sure if that means he survives for next season or not - I'd prefer to see him next season functioning with the team but a death while saving the team would also have a lot of impact and make the ending more weighty after some of the lighter episodes.

I think they will get him back. There is so much talk about the chips. We know Rex either knows how to fix/remove them or knows someone who can because of Wolffe and Gregor being with him in Rebels. We have seen Rex in the trailers. I don't think this will tie back to Ahsoka, but it could.

I like where this is heading and its a little darker than I first anticipated, Crosshairs is not ****ing about even if he isnt fully in control but he is showing how the Empire is going to have a zero tolerance policy with its own staffing and shows how ruthless they will become to spread fear through the galaxy. I love how is armor is almost the first Stormtrooper but not quite there yet. (Will he be the first ever Stromtrooper?? thats potentially a pretty mindblowing thing if it happens when you think about the lore involved in the entire SW canon).

The backstory of Kamino is actually going to be interesting to see how it plays out as well, I didnt really anticipate that part of it as I thought the Bad Batch was just going to be the focus of the show but how the Empire will transition from Clone to Volunteer army is going to be just as good to watch even though we obviously know the outcome. I loved the short but insightful convo of the new elite troops on why they wanted to join the Empire because of what they offered compared to the Republic not ever giving them anything, really adds depth to the Empire and not just the normal one dimensional bad guys they usually are, I hope this gets explored more going forward.

I like how this show is more Imperial focused in fact in tone and general all round content. We usually get a more Rebel centric story and characters so this is a nice change of pace and focus. Like this is an animated Empire Strikes Back if the Clone Wars was more A New Hope. This feels like its not going to have an all happy and rosy ending (partly because it needs to be that way being a middle part of a much bigger thing that we all know the start of) so the hook is well and truelly in and in some ways even more so than The Mandalorian.

I had to google Wolffe and Gregor but I remember them now. (only ever seen TCW and Rebels once through) Thanks for the info

I've got a feeling the Kamino plotline might be building up to a canon version of the Kamino uprising, it's gonna be interesting to see how the Kaminoans respond once the Empire definitively decides to cease the mass production of Clones, they already seem to be getting a little desperate to hold onto their relevance.

This is the most interesting part, who or what will they try to clone to beat the Imperials conscripted army? The Bad Batch members on mass? Boba Fett? A Jedi/Sith?

If you want to see more of the details on how the Empire actually functions, the newer Thrawn books are a gold mine, especially the first and third. The Thrawn books also might provide insight into just what exactly his motives will be in the post-RotJ era shows. Filoni is pretty reverential of Timothy Zahn so I imagine the Thrawn books should be fairly safe from being retconned by the new shows.

Thrawn is one my favourite Star Wars character full stop so I’d definitely be interested. Do you know what the books are called?

The newer Thrawn books are ordered this way: Thrawn, Thrawn: Alliances, and Thrawn: Treason. Then there's the Ascendency books that take place before Thrawn joined the Empire.

Excellent, thanks a lot for that. I will definitely get these.

Given Crosshair's and the proto Stormtrooper squad's armor, I can't help but feel the Kamino stuff is leading to the creation of Deathtroopers. Of course, it was fun to see the one trooper all "Empire is good" be the one to balk at orders. Though, uhhh, really dark to use the flamethrower there...

I did enjoy the Bad Batch part. Learning to deal with Omega's addition is fun. I do hope she gets some bonding time with Tech (good lord, her accent is screwing up his name in my mind) and Echo.

There is no Tech, only Tick. Just like Wrickah and Icko.

I love her accent. Makes all the other clones sound like imposters. :funny:

There's a definite redemption tale in the works here, imo.

Another good episode. I don't follow any of the books and know none of the 'history' of this era, so I'm very curious to see what happens with the Kamino stuff.

This is all pretty new ground, so we are all pretty much in the same place asking...

With Wrecker doting on Omega like an uncle, Wrecker's chip acting up, and Crosshair showing early signs of missing his brothers I'm starting to get a bad feeling that Crosshair will be redeemed, but Wrecker will die.

I saw a theory the other day that Omega may be force sensitive. That the Kaminoans crossed Jango's DNA with one of the Jedi general's DNA. If they did I suspect the Omega plotline could lead into the Grogu or Palpatine clone plotlines.

Ah man, the show wouldn’t be the same without him. Also I bet Omega will still be a part of Star Wars lore in a couple of decades and probably very significant by then (hopefully film appearances). It’s cool seeing characters introduced young like this before they’ve done anything important rather than only seeing powerful characters’ young lives only through flashback.

Episode four was a good little chase episode. They certainly gave Fennec a number of moments to shine, and they even seem to have given her a motif of her own. I can't remember if she had that same theme in Mandalorian, it's been a while. It'll be interesting to see who she messaged at the end there. The more she comes back, the better.

Episode 4: Cornered

Where Fennec shows up to F' crap up, Echo's commonality with droids is screamed from the rooftops, and my brother and Snow at the same time came up with the obvious name of, "The Dad Batch":
