10.9 - Patriot - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Loved the last shot of Slade in the eyepatch. It's great casting and you should all be ashamed for thinking otherwise. :o:down

I liked AC's return too. Less "bro" and more of a capable hero. Nicely done.

Next week looks great too.

Gotta give props to Tom Welling directing this episode once again Tom does a magnificent job .

I especially loved how he present Clark in this episode . Not only did we get to see Clark fight to keep the moralistic values that were installed in him by Jonathan & Martha Kent (The very ideals Superman will choose to live by and teach other heroes to accept) But we also got to see Clark in a more Leadership role which I thought Welling showcased beautifully.

Yeah, his last speech to the group really stood out to me.

This episode felt very uneven to me, but I need to give it a second viewing before I pass any real judgment.

Erica was spectacular in this episode, I loved that we got to see more of the top ace investigative reporter, she was already two steps ahead of Clark on everything concerning the VRA . I loved her meeting with Slade and how she played him so well that even when he suspected her of treachery, Lois had an ace in the hole. Also her first meeting with Mera played out almost excatly how I'd picture if (With the exception of the strip scene which I didn't mind at all by Mera ) I basically saw as Mera meeting the old Flame of Arthur & Oliver and wondering why these men and now Clark fell in love with her when she nothing more than a mere mortal what's so special about Lois Lane ?

The end with Mera and Lois says it all, Lois isn't just a mere mortal woman, She a force to be reckoned with who in her own right is very much like Clark - A Superwoman (without the powers) but with the pure heart and a strong representation of the goodness humanity is capable of.

Sure, there were some transistion issues but I personally thought this was the best episode since "Homecoming".

-Clark in Superman mode!

-Lois in reporter mode!

-Slade being a good villain and his emergence as Deathstroke at the end!

-AC being less Aquabro and more Aquaman!

-Mera talking about Altanis and AC's destiny!

-The Omega symbol reveal

-Clark's exposistion on Darkseid's plan to take over the world to the team and how they have to stop it.

-Lots of action and great special effects!

-Solid direction from Tom!

The only problems were the obvious use of old footage from "Aqua", how Clark and Slade escaped the explosion as well as how AC got caught. But either way, excellent episode, felt like a true JLA episode!:woot: Oh and "Luthor" looks awesome by the way!:wow:

I'm so pleased by how Arthur has truly become AQUAMAN: King of Atlantis and is no longer Aquabro THANK YOU MERA!!!!

When first reports arrived that Aquaman was going to return as a more darker brooding persona may thought he'd end up being the Emo Aquabro. I on the other hand did not I was expecting to see Arthur more as The Badass King Of Atlantis and that's exactly what I got. Alan did a great job in his performance that wasn't just comic relief like his last two appearances this time he actually brought more to the table and so he can be more than a male model surf boy.

As for Mera, prefect casting need I say more.

Where does SV get all of the lovely ladies from?

yea it was funny they recycled the ac in the water from way back. i guess it's cheaper than shooting him now and lets them spend the money on something else.

the scenes between ac and clark made clark still seem unsure, he is constantly getting told what he needs to do. he must be very thick headed. he never seems to get the message. at the end he comes around, but im sure next week he will have to be taught to step up again.

I thought Clark was proven right at the end when AC and Mera apologized to him and told him his morals were good, that that heroes should follow by his example.

Elena Satine should be casted as Mary Jane Watson in the new movie because She is without a doubt she looks like MJ .

^^ Agreed. But this has nothing to do with the Patriot thread. ;)

Well, I say it does... given that she was in tonights episode.

Mera was Awesomely sexy in this episode! Im glad they got a real redhead!

I echo the comments of a couple other posters who were frustrated by the conclusion of the kryptonite cage scene. Yeah, Clark says that he's man AND steel, so you know he's going to survive the explosion. But all of a sudden he's back on the farm and bailing hay? It seemed like there was no finality to that scene, they just moved right on along.

And I'll add another beef I don't believe I've seen mentioned. In the AC/Mera/Oliver scene, Mera gets trapped in the cage, and Oliver just throws a piece of glass into the computer console and the cage bars raise and Mera is free? That felt like a total cop-out. Not too mention the water FX when Mera frees Oliver were sketchy at best.

And, yeah, how did they capture AC? He says they were tracking him (later in the episode), but when we see it Oliver just walks into a room and BAM! there's AC all strung up and stuff? I was like, When did this happen? Dude was just going to search the rigs and now he's captured? Felt forced and rushed.

But on the positive side, I definitely like the introduction of the Anti-Life Equation. I'm guessing that's the "darkness" that is infecting people like Slade. (Reminds me of the Dave Chappelle "Rick James" skit..."Darkness is spreading!") I wonder how it's being transmitted to people, if it's through electronic media or whatever. Definitely very interested in where this is leading.

And when Tess and Lois were talking in the elevator, and neither one knew that the other one knew Clark's secret, you just knew they were gonna find out that each other knew. That's Smallville. Set 'em up, and knock 'em down.

Personally, I don't see any problem. :whatever:

Wouldn't it be nice for this topic to have a poll?

Glad to see A.C. acting more like a man/hero with conviction in what hes doing & less like a surfer.

The episode itself was alright, I felt like it wasn't edited together well.. like how was A.C. captured? How did Clark survive the explosion considering he was in a Kryptonite cell? How did/could they do from Clark surviving said explosion to him bailing hay in the barn? I dunno it felt like a few kinda key scenes were missing or left out of the episode.

I wouldn't call this episode bad nor good, just kinda somewhere in the middle. The Slade, Aquaman/Mera & the JLA stuff was the best part of the episode.

I thought I missed something last night in that scene where Clark was in the cage and the base blew up. But I guess not. Something had to have been cut there and whoever's decision that was, was a bad one.

Other than that, thought it was a solid episode. Alan Ritchson was light years better actign wise then he's been in the past.

if the anti life equation does come into play i think it will be how darkseid gaves a true form and not a mist/spirit form. My guess is he was destroyed decades ago with granny and his other minions coming to earth to find ways to bring him back. And this could be it. But so far i think the darkseid storyline is moving nicely along.

As for the krypto cage, i still say the whole thing we can explain that escape is this. We were told slade and his folks had this new transforming metal. Which as his lines said was used to focus on heroes weaknesses and trap them. So when the base started to go up, the power to it probably reverted back to its natural state and clark easily got away from the base going up by swimming.

As for screen times i thought they were good. Sure lois had more but she was used within all the characters in the episode. So i dont see it much of a problem. It was pretty evenly laid out. Plus its alot easier now to use the cast in more screen times since there is only 4 current leads.
