I think Irons sells it so well. In BvS he was so reverential towards him with the whole , "He is not our enemy" bit and then to meet an actual God who has risen from the dead, the tiny little bow he does as he says, "Master Kent" is just brilliant.
Although, without really knowing the context of why Superman goes to Alfred, I can understand why that bit would have been cut.
The context was probably that this scene followed after Superman gets his costume, then goes to the manor to find out where Bruce and the team are. In the movie, he just shows up.
