Can someone explain to me why Wonder Woman 84 moved back 7 months again?

A certain small sequel coming out, among other films in a crowded November.

3 weeks away
movies nowadays are so frontloaded that a month pretty much makes all the difference for the total run

If this year proved anything

The first Wonder Woman actually largely profited from having strong legs at the box office rather than a smash opening. It opened to a good but not spectacular 103 million, but then proceeded to have phenomenal repeat viewing thanks to strong word of mouth and positive reviews, similar to what we're now seeing with Aquaman (Albeit with a much larger international haul before it even opened here).

The biggest threat it had to contend with was Cars 3, and the Cars franchise has never been a juggernaut in the same way Frozen was.

...it also grossed to ~300 dom by the 3rd week (strong AND fast legs), so I'm not sure what you're getting at

That they made a decision and saw that it was gonna be a crowded marketplace that would prevent it from having a similar box office run, and moved it accordingly. Like I just said, the first Wonder Woman benefitted greatly from a month that had very little competition for it. It was basically Cars 3 and not much else until Despicable Me 3. By contrast, right off the bat November 2019 has a number of big films coming out, some of which are also aimed at the same audience demo.

After having just completed the full story mode for the Spider-man PS4 game, I am now asking myself on why we cannot get that type of quality storytelling with some of his recent cinematic films (not talking about the Spider-Verse film).

If Sony had gone with something like that back when they had rebooted with Andrew Garfield then the guy would probably still be wearing the tights right now.

if I follow people's perceived franchise fatigue, Terminator 6
Charlie's Angels reboot < WW
Sonic the Hedgehog...eh
so, goes back to the Aquaman (Rorschach) analogy

You don't know until the films are out. Nobody in their right mind thought a sequel to Jumanji was gonna come close to crushing a billion at the box office, and it did. That's why WB played it safe rather than sorry.

Those are the outliers. A sub 500m grossing mainstream superhero flick is now an outlier.

I dont mean to hate but... I STILL need someone to explain to me how Jumanji did that well. The movie was FINE. It was fun and disposable but I didnt find anything particularly remarkable about it.

And that doesn't really have anything to do with what I said, because all it takes is one outlier breaking out big, and now you have less money than you potentially could've gotten. In its current 2020 release slate, it's now got pretty little to deal with other than Maleficent II the week before and then the new Top Gun at the end of the month. It's not a surprise that they moved to a less crowded month like June when it worked out so well for them in the first place.

Cast chemistry probably helped. You had Greatest Showman come out as a hit around the same time, which was something that caught people equally off-guard.

People like to see actors they like bouncing off each other and having fun, and the visuals/environments looked like a summer vacation, which is always inviting to audiences. I don't think it's more complicated than that.

It's so check-boxy, this and Black Panther made me realize what goes in to these massive hits to appeal to as many as possible. Heck, I was even checking if Welcome to the Jungle would have some music/dance component with Karen Gilliam *shy girl has to learn to flirt moment* while I was watching and low behold the scene came.
+ intended demo is represented on film through actors (young & old)
+ mixed variety of characters (the jock, the nerd, the shy girl, the chick, the guy from another era)
+ actors getting to play within or against type (comedic chemistry)
+ superpower action
+ straight forward plot
+ sappy
+ nostalgic
+ refreshing gimmick
likely even more I'm leaving out

Of course it does, because it so happens that a mainstream superhero flick like WW should be more sure-fired against/alongside that competition.

Should doesn't always mean will, which is why it was moved. It's really not that hard.

I appreciate him getting out in front of this.

People are jerks.

I hate hate hate that this is what it has come to with fans

makes me glad the only thing close to social media I participate in are message boards. Why can't people just like or dislike what they want in peace?

Double Toasted had a ton of dislikes for their review for Aquaman.

I thought it was really great all the way till the too-convenient ending. Hard to stop watching once you start.

But can we agree bald man, that she looked hnnngh af during her exercise 80s suit routine?

I thought shorty had nothin but pancakes, but then I see she carries waffles on the sides.

My New Years wild prediction and/or anticipation for DC 2019

1) BOP set pics, costume reveals
2) Shazam promo going into overdrive
3) Black Adam director announced
4) Batman casting for lead and villains
5) Batman production, costumes
6) James Gunn announced as SS2 director
7) GLC director and lead announced
8) New Gods to enter production
9) Flash directors either exit project or start production
10) Batgirl director announced

And teasers/trailers for Joker, BOP, WW84

PS Aquaman hitting Wan Billion

I think BOP will be the starting point for GCS, BOP vs GCS, Black Canary, Huntress....

Shazam will be a quick 4-5 year franchise and Chuck and Rock will be used in future team up films after

SS will be setting its own pace but relates to BOP/the fantabulous HQ...

Batman will be the biggest priority that’s at pre production stage, because of the character, as well as possibly setting up Nightwing and Batgirl, and involve them organically in the Bat film and spin them off into the HQ series (Reeves apparent about to turn in the script while Christina recently said she started her script....hm)

New Gods is probably on target for production next year?

AM hopefully will help green light Flash finally, I would add Ray in there and expand the scope, and see if Cyborg can spin off later into his own movie.

AM probably gave Johns little bit more clout with his GLC script since his involvement with AM, WW both turned out good.

Supergirl probably will come after Shazam’s quick run, and re-introduce Sup.

And maybe Wan will take on JL2/LOD after AM2 and N number of scary movies. He and Hamada created the scary universe after all. And a fun visual team up film vs the villain team is kinda right up his alley....and we are looking at 2025 at the earliest, so don’t freak out about rushing to another JL lol

And Plastic Man, Blue Beetles, Leto movie lol,.....please wait in line.
