Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 56

It for sure it's fluff. ANd honestly that's a lot of hour long dramas. I don't know if my attention span has gotten worse (likely) or just that there are so many TV shows out there that I feel like I don't have time to waste. but these 45-1hr long shows that have like 13 eps are way too much for me. You get all this fluff, padding, flashbacks, and extra characters.
8 hours is a good length for a serialized. I don't think it's a coincidence that most of my favorite TV dramas in recent years have been 8-9 eps
You are spot on here. I am a big believer that the story should dictate the episodes. Give me 5 great episodes and I'll be happy. Now especially with sooo much content available, a show needs to grab and hold my attention if it wants me to stay with it. Full TV seasons are just too daunting to me now and so unless I hear it's amazing, I won't bother. 8 episodes is pretty perfect IMO unless the story dictates more but they better be good.

New Mutants looks like it might be canned.

It’s a relatively low budget movie, right? It’s gotta be a real disaster if they’re worried about it’s box office potential.

I still think it should just be dropped on Hulu. I doubt it does though.

Also hope that people took note in the Variety article that they said Iger is looking for ways to have Deadpool have crossovers with PG-13 heroes while still having his own profane adventures in the MCU.

Marvel Knights here we go.

Who the hell knows. I would be surprised if it is partly cost, partly because it is "off brand".

In fun stuff, however...

Better than Snyder's writing.

This stuff is better than Nolan! :funny:

Yeah I don't think this ever sees a theater screen and no more money will be spent on it. It will go hulu just to get it out there but I highly doubt they will want it associated with anything that could hurt the MCU.

“Disney is prioritizing making more broadly commercial projects, which includes ongoing work on sequels to James Cameron’s Avatar and starry safe bets like the on-screen reunion of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the drama The Last Duel.”

But at least we’re still getting bold content through the Fox Searchlight division, right? Yes – for now. While the article does note that Taika Waititi‘s Jojo Rabbit is expected to hit the awards circuit this year, some Disney executives already aren’t feeling it. Fox Searchlight has begun screening the film ahead of its Toronto International Film Festival debut and one executive reportedly “grew audibly uncomfortable,” concerned that Jojo Rabbit won’t appeal to Disney fans.
Disney Reportedly Unimpressed with 'New Mutants'

But Wolverine gets to call Spidey "bub" so it's all good

This is the greatest script I've ever read.

Very true, but apparently some are still concerned which is stupid.

But my worry/tin foil hat theory is that Fox Searchlight will go the way of the dodo

My guess is Fox Searchlight - rebranded as just Searchlight - will be fine because of the low cost of the projects. And the studio output will be a good fit for Hulu once the HBO deal expires in 2022.

But 20th Century Fox proper? It's an awkward fit, and I wouldn't be surprised if that studio eventually goes the way of Fox 2000. The Mouse has dominated the market by pumping out brand-name big-budget 4 quadrant fare, and pricey films that appeal to niche audiences ain't going to fly.

I wouldn't be surprised and that was mine, and many others, concern with the Disney/Fox deal

If it's as bad as is rumored, they should release it as one of those Hulu horror films (I think it's called their "After Dark" series or something). I watched one of those pieces of trash once. Never again.

Are there actually rumors that it's bad? The only rumors I heard about the quality were on the Hype. Collider even said a couple months ago that they hear the movie is fine. Not good or bad. Just "fine"

I mean you can ascertain with the push backs, but I haven't heard any concrete rumors (or at least as concrete as rumors can be) that the film is bad. Except for the ones who originated here

Well, this report from the other day indicated that the Disney execs aren't impressed. Now, that's not a lot to go on; it might just mean that they don't think it has a lot of box office potential, I don't know. But it's certainly bizarre that it's been pushed back so many times.

If they didn't learn their lesson from releasing Dark Phoenix and having it tank worse than Fan4stic, then New Mutants certainly doesn't stand a chance at the box office. Disney should just eat it, shelve it, never let it see the light of day.

LOL @ them having a weak opening for Galaxy's Edge. I went to Disneyland at the end of June the day before you didn't need reservations to go to that park. If they didn't ration who could visit then I'm sure it would've made a difference.

The only rumors I recall hearing about New Mutants was that Fox wanted to make it rated R and lean into the horror elements after the success of IT. Which leads me to believe that, best case scenario, the movie was dull.

I know that report, I linked to it before. But going off that they also were uncofortable with JoJo Rabbit. So them being "unimpressed" doesn't for sure mean it's a bad movie.

That doesn't make sense. They wanted to add more horror elements so that means that the movie is dull?

I'm not saying it's good, but the fact that they wanted to make it more horror doesn't indicate to me that it was dull.

Nothing about what's happening to New Mutants is making sense to me. But all said in done it seems like waaaay more trouble than it's worth. Like a movie about The New Mutants shouldn't be causing this much trouble.
Just put it on Hulu around Halloween. Disney can take that loss, which will be offset by all the other successes they had this year and will have until the sun exploded. Probably the only setback will be renegotiating cast contracts, but I'm sure most of them are over it by now

It does when you want to spend millions reshooting half of the movie with an expensive, in-demand cast. Why would they do that if the movie turned out fine? "Dull" seems like a fair and optimistic reading at this point.

Not at all. Them wanting to reshoot to add more horror, in the way you put it, doesn't mean that it was dull. It meant that they wanted to cash in on the success they saw from IT.

You’re weirdly fixated on the word “dull” like you missed the point.

Honestly the most likely explanation is that the movie is bad, plain and simple. You don’t reshoot half a movie if it’s working. You get that right?
