Episode 1: Glorious Purpose (Spoiler Discussion)

I see that franchise being inspiration for this show, especially the second film, when 2015 older Biff Tannen takes the sports almanac to 1955 Biff leading to an alternate 1985, leading to Marty and Doc having to go back to 1955.
What do you think the Goldman Sachs boardmember did to mess up the sacred timeline? :oldrazz:

Surely, there exists footage of Loki watching the part where he made a play of himself, told Thanos "We have a Hulk", and told Thor "I assure you brother, the sun will rise on us again"

So after listening to a couple podcasts I heard two seperate theories/thoughts that helped me formulate a tinfoil nutty thought. Since time is flat to the TVA, is it possible in the Miss Minutes video that "a long time ago" may not necessarily be in Loki's or the MCU's past but rather the future? Some have said one of the time keepers look like Kang who will be playing a big part in the coming films. Perhaps Dr Strange: Multiverse of Madness or future films are the event Miss Minutes is talking about?

And that literal plan would be "God's plan" in this world. Loki's story is not analogizing anything that Christians don't think in mass right now. In fact... that something like 70% of the world believes right now.
70%? Where are those statistics from?

Basically, it sounds like you have a gripe with modern religion, and since you see this as analogous, you have a problem with this too.
I couldn't care less about religion to be honest, that's not to say I consider myself an atheist either; more agnostic, but I fundamentally disagree with religious teachings, because (I believe) them to be the teachings of man, not god.

That's a discussion for another time though.

Presumably there's his whole divergent history on that reel he skipped through; the scenes with Odin, those with Hela, his time with the Grandmaster etc.

I would like to think that somehow this Loki will meet Thor again in the future, once he's been fully redeemed. If there's a Thor 6, I'd love for Loki to step in just as things look bleak. Hello brother.

So is AoS out of cannon now? And was that Peggy in the background in the one scene? They clearly wanted us to see someone being led in.

I don't think it was Peggy Carter. I do think it's someone from her era but not her.

I think you're on to something. Did you catch what Miss Minutes said during that speech?

"Stepping off your path created a nexus event, which left unchecked, could branch off into MADNESS; leading to another MULTIVERSAL war."

She literally said the title of DS2.

Miss Minutes is my new favorite character.

The footage shown to Loki wasn't complete. For example, it doesn't show Thor getting rag dolled by Hulk and then Loki cheering at that because Thor now knows what it feels like. That means Avengers Loki won't feel that sense of vindication.

So is AoS out of cannon now?

Yes. AOS is Not in the MCU 'sacred' Timeline.

Consider it a "What If" or deleted timeline branch if anything. Same with Inhumans and the other Jeph Loeb shows.

By Season 6 of AOS, the show was basically doing it's own thing. Production-wise, this was due to the rift between Feige and Loeb/Perlmutter, and Kevin gaining control of MarvelTV.

I believe DisneyPlus is going to list the non-canon Marvel shows as 'Marvel Legacy' or something to that effect.

Has anyone in this thread mentioned Mephisto? One would think the kid would tell them that he looks something like that, but not exactly like the stained glass image, down to the red skin. I guess we will see by the end of the season.

When I compare this show to most of the MCU films, it is like high art. Thought provoking and great writing. Loki was a great character but is going to be 10x more relatable and fleshed out once this season is over. Tom ihas shown more range in this one episode than in all of the MCU. Loki is my favourite of the Disney+ MCU stuff so far.

I guess it depends on what you consider "canon". I'm typically in favour of letting viewers decide on a 'personal canon' rather than a 'prescribed canon' anyway tbh, but let's look at it this way: It was already clear from AoS itself before the Loki show came out that AoS at least diverged from the 'main' timeline at some point. This would presumably be due to the timetravel in late season 5. But does that make it not-canon? Because this Loki is divergent from the 'main timeline' too, so would that make Loki not-canon? I'd say AoS is about as canon to the MCU as things like Age of Apocalypse, Age of Ultron, etc. are to the main comics line. That is, it is a divergent timeline that originates directly from the main timeline.

First of all, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is all kinds of gorgeous, just DAMN!

Secondly, I agree that the multiverse war that led to the creation of the TVA has not yet happened as of present MCU timeline. It most likely will be the eventual Secret Wars movie.

It was okay... Mostly looking forward to more Loki - Mobius interactions.

I wish there were more episodes......

So it's the sorta thing where Secret Wars has to happen so that the TVA can exist. I dig it.

So how does this all play out? MCU engages in a multiversal war, wins, creates the TVA to prevent another war, TVA starts out trying to establish a singular timeline for the MCU, eventually develops into a bureaucracy obsessed with preserving its own existence.

IMHO they wasted her on this role. She could have played someone more prominent in the MCU such as Storm or someone in the Black Panther sequel. Even Alicia Masters would have been better.

This is what I was going to say but you beat me to it.

She says that there will be more to Renslayer:

‘Loki’ Star Gugu Mbatha-Raw Explains TVA, Ravonna Renslayer – The Hollywood Reporter

She has a lot on her shoulders; she has a lot of responsibility. She has to make some morally ambiguous choices,” Mbatha-Raw tells The Hollywood Reporter. “As a judge, she doesn’t want to compromise the position she’s worked really hard to get to. But when the stakes get high, she has to get out of the office; she has to get out from behind that desk and get into the action as well. So that’s when she has to call upon her military training, and we get to see a whole other side of her. So there’s a lot of secrets. There’s betrayal. There’s lots of layers of Renslayer to come.”

Time travel didn't take AOS out of canon. They travelled to the future in Season 5 remember, and then specifically returned to their own time...supposedly in the MCU, when Thanos was attacking.

And then Season 6 happened, and the Snap never happened. The show no longer lined up with the MCU. The reason apparently being Kevin Feige kept Loeb and the AOS showrunners out of the loop regarding his MCU plans. Feige likely realized he was gaining control of MarvelTV, so all the Loeb shows would soon be non-canon anyway.

On the positive side, this means the MCU can introduce fresh versions of Ghostrider, Patriot and others without having to acknowledge Agents of Shield... now 'Marvel Legacy'

I wish there were more episodes......

The good news is the show is being set up to run for multiple seasons.

It isn't a one-off like Wandavision and Winterfalcon. This could be Marvel's Doctor Who.
