Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 58

I think using a Wanda from a different universe would be a cop out. If they wanna make Wanda evil make her evil.

I think all that she's been through in the MCU is a good enough spark for an antagonist turn. It's all just gonna depend on how it's handled.
If they pull a half measure and have her turn evil due to some outside force or they try too hard to make her sympathetic it's not gonna work that well
I don't mean it as a cop out, more as a solution if they don't want to make her actually evil (which I would have thought the better route), but still want to show how devastating her power can be and how intimidating a truly villainous version of her would be. Seems like a dumb resolution to go from her being introduced as a misguided villain through tragedy, to then redeem herself and fight against villains alongside heroes including helping save the world, to then go back to being a much bigger villain through tragedy again (surely learned by now that that isn't the way to deal with tragedy and that tragedy doesn't excuse all these crimes). Stark learned about the effects his weapons had and that was good development for him. Imagine he starts acting arrogantly again and designing even more powerful weapons and thinking about all the money he's making doing it rather than sacrificing himself.

It's a copout to me when Sony propose a villains universe who are all going to end up not being truly villainous (unlike Joaquin's Joker) and antiheroes at worst, as they have to lead films without genuine heroes. Unlike them, Scarlet Witch doesn't need to be an all out villainous character with intent and anything that crosses a certain line could undermine the earlier episodes of Wandavision and parts of AoU, CW, IW & EG.

I'd be very intrigued to see what a full on dark Wanda might be like and what she might be capable of, just not my Wanda lol.

Yeah that's what I thought you meant and that's a textbook cop out. As it's a way for them to have an "evil" version of Wanda without it actually affecting anything. Having their cake and eating it too.

In this made up scenario, making Wanda a villain without any actual repercussions on the "real" Wanda? That's the definition of a cop out. It's filmmakers avoiding actual consequences. It's like them killing off Gamora and Loki only to reintroduce their variant versions so soon. In Gamora's case only a year. Or having Rhodey getting seriously hurt and paralyzed but walking (albeit with robotic help) within what seems like days/weeks. Or having characters commit a serious crime and only get off with cutting a vague deal and getting house arrest.

What you're talking about with SONY isn't what a cop out is. You may not like the idea but it's not a cop out. EDIT: especially considering that they never said it was a universe solely based on villains. A cop out would be SONY bringing back Emma Stone Gwen Stacy from the dead in TASM3 like they were planning to do. A move like that shows they don't want to commit to an important character death or have the status quo too shaken up. Similar to how using a variant Wanda as an antagonist versus using the main timeline Wanda is a cop out

They need to bring back soundtracks to movies and songs that are worth a damn.

Was not a fan of Multiverse of Madness. Those just going for their Raimi fix will probably be satisfied though. The 3rd act goes pretty Full Raimi.

Everyone else? I doubt it. It does not stand on its own as a movie at all, imo. Feels like the mid-season finale of a TV show in that those who are not up to speed with all things Marvel are gonna struggle to find any reason to care about anything that’s going on. And Wanda…
Got Zack Snyder-ed.

The Illuminati was a cringe-y joke, too.

Much like Shang-Chi, you can tell which sequences they spent time/money on, because there’s a lot of UGLY visuals here mixed in with the good ones.

Not quite bottom tier Marvel for me, but nowhere close to the top tier, either. Somewhere in the middle. But still higher than the first movie, because at least it’s not Marvel-By-The-Numbers. There’s some actual creative moments to appreciate here, at least.

Also, was totally whelmed by the Avatar 2 trailer. The visuals haven't changed in 13 years, lol.

Is it true they all there just to get whacked? If so, then I’m more convinced Krasinski will not play the real Reed from our main timeline since it seems Marvel’s only cast him for this movie for the lolz and fan service.

Yep. They introduce themselves, they each get a few lines of exposition, then Wanda kills them all. They don't even put up very good fights, imo (Reed is especially useless against Wanda lol). Black Bolt's death was quickest, but it was also the coolest, imo.

lol.

This is why I’ll be very surprised if Marvel brings Krasinski back to play the main Reed You don’t cast an actor to play the role long term and have our first introduction to them to be unceremoniously killed off in a brief cameo. Wow so even Captain Carter bites the dust as well? Does Reed even stretch?

Yeah Captain Carter puts up the best fight, and she even gets in a nice "I could do this all day" moment...but then that's kinda spoiled when she's immediately chopped in half by her own shield right after it.
Reed briefly does like a stretchy punch before Wanda turns him into spaghetti. I don't know what he was trying to accomplish with that, honestly.

Sorry to hear that, Flick. I’m a Raimi fan so im going in hoping to see him cut loose on some bonkers magic action. Some of your sentiments ive heard echoed in the critic reviews, especially the whole “middle of the road mcu movie” which is CRAZY to me because wasnt this supposed to be like the “main event” multiverse film? Is this even about the multiverse?

"Hero" is a banger and you should ashamed of that bad take :o

It's no "Vindicated" though.
Ah, "Vindicated"...the best of the main songs from the Raimi trilogy.

"Hero" is okay. It's the closest thing resembling a Nickelback song that I like. I also remember cracking up as a teenager that the opening line of the song is "I am so high".

Oh, and we're at another big anniversary milestone!!!

Guess this Reed is not the smartest man on the planet :o Looks like fans who are REALLY into his casting are going to be disappointed because it doesn't look like Krasinski will be the Reed they are going to be using for the film :hehe:

Since we talking about CBM music, just know that these two soundtracks are still the GOAT:

We need real singers/musicians because this SoundCloud generation ain't it.

Kids today will never know how a movie of this magnitude once felt like a dream Drizzy.

Marvel, you did good.

Part of me misses the days of seeing superhero movie soundtracks stacked with original songs like Batman Forever or Raimi's Spider-Man movies but I also love the alternative, which is hearing some classic tunes peppered in my Marvel and DC movies. Favreau kind of started it with AC/DC in his Iron Man movies and James Gunn perfected it with GOTG but I still get amped up hearing "Immigrant Song" in Thor: Ragnarok. I also love hearing the deeper cuts like De La Soul's "The Magic Number" in No Way Home and "Something in the Way" worked so perfectly in The Batman.

It also exposes the young whippersnappers watching these movies to some real music. :grr:

Some directors should take the Tarantino approach and use classic songs. The use of music in movies is such a lost art.

The right song can make a scene so memorable.

The last time I saw music being done right was Cruella. Another reason why i loved that film so much. But I digress.
