Across the Kraven-verse: How Sony Won the Superhero Cinematic Civil War Thread - Part 59

I dont think we're getting a new MCU Norman in the main MCU, honestly. I think that's part of why they used Dafoe here. I think we will see Kingpin occupy the evil rich guy role for the street level heroes, including Spider-Man
Seems that way with D'Onofrio already talking Daredevil season 2 after an 18 episode first season. Seems like he will become an important crime kingpi...figure in the MCU. That is genuinely great for me, but no matter how awesome that could be, I'll still be a bit disappointed to get no Norman (and Harry) in the MCU.

On one level, I agree. On the other....the Goblins and Oscorp were primary focuses of both prior trilogies before Holland. So I am willing to see other blood. We can always have Hobgoblin come in and use Norman's tech he had in NWH

It's good that they've at least been done well before. Characters like Norman feel like important parts of the furniture in a Marvel universe, as does Oscorp, even if they aren't necessarily doing a whole lot. Just great to have them there throughout lol.

Another reason why this multiverse stuff is going to be hokey after a while. It’s like Holland already met one variant of Gobby, so clearly he will automatically know a 616 Norman Osborn is bad news which means he’ll have no reason to befriend a 616 Harry.

But we’ll see I guess.
The thing I don't buy is Norman and Harry simply not existing in the MCU. I don't think Raimiverse Norman looked hard enough. Either that or he discovered that the Norman Osborn in the MCU was like, a mild mannered accountant instead of a CEO and was so disappointed that he just denied his existence entirely. :o

I’m still pissy with Sony for canceling ‘Silver & Black’, the only movie in their stupid universe I was actually ready to spend money on at the theater.

Spidey & MJ are forever my favorite comics couple, but that damn Felicia Hardy is in my heart too. She should’ve been in a live action movie eons ago.

Resources diverted to El Muerto and that other one I can't even remember.

Dude, I totally forgot ALL about Madame Web. Does that drop this year? Lol
Next year, I think. This year is all about:

I've wanted to see Kraven in a movie since the Raimi days and the fact that we're getting him in a movie without Spider-Man is just...

Oh that's the one. No idea man, I haven't followed these at all haha. Got some mild interest in Kraven, well I mean I love comics Kraven, just not got much faith in what they're doing with these villain solos in a Spider-Man-less universe. No idea how they managed to come up with the magic of Hardy Venom and the Venom voice though.

*Not like this gif* - absolutely not like this.:csad:

I also have fantasy-speculated/posted about Kraven so many times over the years. What a way to have those wishes answered.

Nope.

Ariana DeBose and her agent are crazy as hell. You come off an Oscar winning role just to be in Kraven.

This stays rent free in my mind.

A job is a job. An Oscar win does not mean you are in the financial position to be turning down well paying jobs. Especially for a woman of color.

At least Ariana DeBose will be a nice distraction from yet another questionable Eastern European accent from Aaron Taylor Johnson.

Morbius was doomed by lack of eastern european accent yelling about plasma.

Gunn's priority, and plan for the DCU, is the antithesis of homogeneityRDT_20230326_185519679610659389049177.png

DC's James Gunn, Peter Safran Vow to Put Screenwriting First - Variety

(That's definitely low-key shade at Phase 4)

He wants his universe to feel rich in diversity of genres, and flavors. It's a *universe*, after all.

- Swamp Thing could be 'Nomadland' meets 'The Fly' (Cronenberg)

- Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow could be 'Edge of Seventeen' in Space

- Brave & The Bold could be 'Pulp Fiction' meets 'Kick-Ass'

This IS the future. It has to be.

From the guy only capable of making one movie and wants to tie the movies, into the TV, into the games. :lmao:

I dont share your optimism at all, but you hold on to that!

I've seen too many DC slates to take anyone in this role at their word by this point. We'll see how it goes. The one thing giving me any hope is everyone else in that writer's room is immensely more interesting as creatives than James Gunn is, but even then it's not much. It's easy to talk big game about creative freedom when doing press announcements, it's another thing when someone comes along and wants to take a character in a direction contrary to your ten year plans or two creatives want to introduce different takes on the same characters or the numerous other problems that come up when you decide all these movies, video games, and TV shows have to co-exist and not step on each other's toes. And what they announced so far is not inspiring a huge amount of interest with me.

Marvel has issues with homogeneity, and I think they could due with letting a number of their films have more distinctive voices, but there's a degree of creative freedom that's going to be sacrificed in this desire for everything must be connected all the time. It's a big reason why, despite (to put it kindly) wildly varying quality, I've really enjoyed the last few years of DC projects. Because Birds of Prey doesn't have to be beholden to Doom Patrol, which doesn't have to be beholden to Harley Quinn, which doesn't have to be beholden to trash like Titans.

Ranking the X-Men flicks (because I'm bored):

1. Logan

2. Deadpool
3. The Wolverine
4. First Class

5. Deadpool 2
6. Days of Future Past
7. New Mutants
8. X-Men United
9. X-Men
10. Dark Phoenix
11. Origins
12. Last Stand
13. Apocalypse
It is a Monday, so this is a throwback to good ol' pandemic days :o

Hobgoblin would be fun because you can play that as a "Whodunit" murder mystery like Ghostface in Scream.

I'd be open to taking liberties and not having it necessarily be Roderick Kingsley when they do adapt Hobby.
That would absolutely be a fun way to do a movie with Hobgoblin as the villain, fitting too.
