Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness general news and discussion thread

Not going to get into any plot speculation because I want to go in completely unspoiled.

Regarding release date: I hope this moves up a month to Presidents' Day weekend (February 18). Only two weeks before THE BATMAN but this way it comes in a little hotter off the heels of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, which this is closely related to.

that would make sense. I never understood, why they have the release date so close to Thor L&T.
But it’s probably due to post production issues.

I expect a teaser until November ends (4 months prior to release)…maybe even earlier. Maybe they’ll attach a teaser to Eternals - Halloween would be a great time to start promoting the first scary MCU movie

Teaser trailer on Halloween, I'll call it now

Believe what?

"
Benedict Cumberbatch Says ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Will Challenge ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ as ‘Most Ambitious Superhero Film’ "

That's what I believe. It says that title when you click on the article. Idk why it shows a different title.

In terms of when to expect a teaser, I suppose it depends on if Marvel needs us to see Spider-Man: No Way Home first. It would make sense given Doctor Strange's role in that film, but at the same time it would be pretty late in the game to release the first teaser.

If they release it as early as they did the first Eternals teaser then we could see one as early as mid-October.

So we’re looking at an Oct-Nov date for the Teaser Trailer.

Don’t know, if the trailer for NWH comes before or after it. But it could also be around the same time. Between the trailer for Eternals and the teaser for NWH we’re only 4-5 days

Besides hoping that DS2 stays a Doctor Strange movie first and foremost focusing on just Doctor Strange, I hope the magical scenes resemble NOTHING of the 1st one. That was so basic, so unimaginative. I want more of the stuff Strange did vs Thanos, go even beyond that. Plus the What If fight scene showed how amazing magical fight scenes can be if you're creative with it.

Turning a black hole into butterflies ? Epic, poetic, beautiful, creative. You never see those type of magic scenes in any movie ever. So I hope with DS already being Sorcerer Supreme we can go even beyond that and show him perform creative, gorgeous magic. It's crucial for DS of all characters, to use his battles as an intellectual pillar first and foremost. Him defeating Dormammu with his intellect is the best 3rd act of any CBM ever in terms of creativity. I want to see a lot more of those moments where you can see his intellect shine as a sorcerer.

The early DS comics I've read generally show an overmatched Strange win by using his wits and I always loved that. They were among the more cleverly written stories put forward by Marvel.

that would be like Sherlock then…

Now that we've seen the Loki series, I want to bring up my old thoughts from last year.
People didn't seem to agree with the theory, that he's one of the causes for multiverse portals to open.

From a now closed Spider-Man thread:
Loki visiting alternative realities, it must have something to do with Multiverse later opening
Creating new timeline = another universe?

Which mean Avengers going back in time (Endgame) and Loki's travelling back and forth through history.... both will affect the Multiverse somehow. The veils between them could start to get cracks here and there
Wanda could perhaps be the one who opens the ripples that already are there (by the actions of the others)

And from this thread (pay notice to the bold section):
What happens in WandaVision is usually believed to be the cause of Multiverse opening, which will be explored further in Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man 3.

There could be more things that could have lead to the future Multiverse stories in MCU
A posted this in another forum and try again to get this topic into discussion.

Thanos' first snap could be one of the crucial things for causing the ripples between the different universes. It was a tremendous outburst of energy that changed all of our own universe, killing 50%. The natural order of things was being "f**ked with in a really bad way.
After that, two more snaps happened. We can only guess how much damage it caused to the fabric of reality.
It's not only the snaps though.
Having the six infinity stones so close to each other could be bad as well. Each of them holds a great power and when these powers meet, something is bound to happen as a side effect. Even without a snap.
And they were next to each other three times

We can also look at the history of MCU.
The dark elves wanted to throw our universe back into darkness, waited for when the nine worlds (=realms) were in alignment, used the reality stone and came close to succeed with their plan.
This can be seen as something, along with other things, that slowly came to cause the cracks between the universes. Butterfly effect, you know.
And the realms in alignment occurence was by itself powerful enough to open rifts in the three dimensional reality, and transport Jane Foster to the location of reality stone

There's also the time in Doctor Strange when a direct portal was opened between our world and Dormammu's dark dimension and its energies. Our planet was in great danger because of that.
This was the first time such a thing happened, right? I mean a portal to the dark dimension.
I'm sure it affected our universe in a way, not just only because a big city was about to be destroyed.

What about the fall of Asgard?
Maybe the old kingdom, through its very existence, made sure there was order in creation, after all. It predates even Odin so it's very possible it was an actual divine place. Then Ragnarök happened...
Odin himself was so powerful he could hold the sadistic Hela at bay with his magic. When he died, she returned with all her dark influence and her vast powers into our universe.
What if she was sent away the first time because she just being present here would have a destructive effect on our reality? Perhaps portals between alternative universes have been open before, due to her?

There have been several deaths of powerful beings in MCU: Not only Odin but also Heimdall, who's actually possessed powers that not ordinary asgardians do.
There's also The Ancient One..... and Ego, a cestial/primordial being.
What if all of them were crucial to our universe. Now that they're all gone, their living energy is no longer with us and that could alter our reality.
Perhaps the upcoming Eternals film can dive into this theory? Do you think so?
Could Multiverse also be a part of Eternals main plot?

Important things from this post:

Infinity stones together
Three snaps, energies released
Realms in alignment, causing rifts in our reality's spacial dimensions
Reality stone activated - universe nearly back in darkness.
Portal to dark dimension, its energies start devouring a major city
Ragnarök/destruction of Asgard
Powerful beings dead
Fabric of reality
Butterfly effect
And if all of this aren't enough, there's Loki as well. He's is travelling through time with the tesseract (space stone) in his hands. He will meet different versions of himsel, and perhaps he's creating different realities. In one of them, he's running for president.
As we know, he's god of mischief and doesn't care about consequences.

He also possesses some magic of his own, so the space stone isn't all.
So for this Multiverse of Madness that Dr Strange will encounter in the upcoming film, do you think that Loki's doings affect the multiverse as much as Wandavision does???

After watching the finale of What If, I’ll be curious how or if it even ties into MoM. If there “guardians of the multiverse” and Watcher oversees them, it would be weird if he didn’t make an appearance in MoM assuming the multiverse plays a big part.

Daniel Richtman…nuff said
Every other Marvel movie (not Spiderman movie) got a teaser trailer 5-6 months prior to release…even Endgame
