DC Films The DC Studios News and Discussion Thread

The first DC movie I saw in theaters was Batman & Robin. Talk about a buzzkill. :funny:

I saw that one in the theater and I remember talking to a guy who saw the same showing ,and he shook his head and said, " I'm glad I paid for the matinee ".

I probably should have seen My Best Friend's Wedding, which came out the same week, and is a great Julia Roberts flick..

She was rumored to be up for Poison Ivy ironically enough.

I saw Superman 4 : The Quest For Peace in the theaters.
Even at 8 years old, I thought , " Yeah this isn't very good".

I can't help it...I love that film! It's terrible but it was on si often I just dig it! Plus Jon Cryer!

Superman 3 sucked though ;)

Sure, but the question therein lies will it be Momoa’s Aquaman or will it be another actor as the DCU Aqauman? The box office/critical/audience reception to Aqauman 2 will give us an answer to this question.

Superman 3 , does have , let's just say " unique " moments, to say the least:hilarious:.

The Robot lady used to scare me as a kid! Superman drunk made me laugh and still does!

Somehow, the original version of 3 is actually way worse! Brainiac raises Supergirl, falls in love with her but she rejects her so she can be with Clark! Good lord...

I got to see Batman Forever in theaters, but I remember Batman & Robin more. I walked out of it thinking Uma Thurman was super hot and talking to my friend (we were both 10 ) about it.

You weren’t wrong. :D All those original Batman films were massive events for me in the cinema.

my mom bought me the comic book adaption of that when it came out in theaters and i would read it a lot.
i was about 7 years old at the time and for me the comic adaption was better than the movie itself.

it had art from curt swan, don heck, dick giordano, etc, which probably helped.

^ look how cool that cover is, it looks like an epic superman story is about to unfold.
sometimes what works on the pages of a comic doesn't transfer well into live action. :zipped:

For those who have seen Wonder Woman 1984, Black Adam, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, how would you rank and rate them from 'best' to worst?

I mean, I really enjoyed WW84, so probably not the opinion you're looking for lol, but....

1.) WW84
2.) Shazam: Fury of the Gods

3.) Black Adam

I really liked WW84. It's the kind of cheesy movie WW should've had a long, long time ago but maybe just not as a sequel to the one that did come out.

I put Black Adam over FOTG probably because of the Justice Society.

FOTG is a blandly okay kids movies that doesn’t live up to the original at all. I’d argue Black Adam is technically worse and a lot more embarrassing but it is also very unintentionally funny in a way superhero films rarely are so in some ways it’s more fun to watch.

WW84 is pretty good and unfairly maligned tbh. It’s a bit messy but it works very well as a Donner throwback and the chemistry between Pine and Gadot is just unreal. Brings out a charisma in Gadot that is frequently lacking.

I have only seen BA and WW84 so far but:

1)WW84
2)BA

Neither is good. WW84 is about half of a good film though so it gets the nod. It had the potential to be something very cool but it wasted it on kitchy BS and some terrible storylines. (not even including the Steve Trevor crap) It was TV movie level bad in parts and the last 20 minutes is laugh out loud horrible. The way they wasted Cheetah and the stupid wish rock story was just atrocious. The charm of the first was missing and was forced in parts. And it didn't help that we knew at the end none of it was going to matter because it took place in the past and was never referenced in other films. They could have done so much with the villains they had and they wasted it on a stupid rock that grants wishes so that they could wish it all away at the end in an explanation that made zero sense even in comic terms. I honestly almost fell asleep twice in the film and that never happens. I keep meaning to give it another try but never do.

BA though is on another level. First of all the film was about 15 years outdated just in the structure of the film. I get cliches are going to show up in origin films but these cliches were so tired and dated it was pathetic and sad. The Rock was horrible, the changes to the origin were stupid and honestly the motivation of all the characters made zero sense. It was a paint by numbers film but they used black and white to do it so it is just awful. The saving grace was the JSA, and honestly the film should have been theirs because they do much of the lifting of the story and are the true heroes and stars. It is never a good sign when at the end of the second act (when BA goes into "stasis") you turn to your friend and go "this film is called Black Adam right? Why is the JSA going to fight the Big Bad?".

Based on what I know...FOTG will likely be #2 well above BA and closer to WW84 than it has any right to be. If it actually outperforms my expectations it might pass it.

Sometimes when I’m sick I take a high dose of cough syrup, and I did that before seeing Black Adam. I was out of my mind during the movie and really enjoyed it. Even in that state, I knew it was a bad movie but it was at least fun. The last time I did the cough medicine/movie theater thing was back in 2011 with Green Lantern (Which was also enjoyable mostly because of the cough syrup, but a truly terrible movie.)
