The Thunderbolts* News and Discussion Thread

Good choice, chef!

Please no. Cho is supposed to be a teenager. Yeun is 40, 2 years older than the actress that played Cho's mom in Age of Ultron is now.
And Hank Pym is supposed to be a forty-something. Stuff happens.

Cue the Amadeus Cho rumors.

This tweet, plus another one I saw saying his character would go up against the Thunderbolts, means he’s probably going to end up being
Sentry.

Who was Cho’s mom in AoU?
Helen Cho, the scientist who healed Hawkeye and got mindcontrolled to help Ultron build Vision. Played by Claudia Kim.

So, I was doing a bit of research on the whole rewrites situation this film was going through to try and make sense of the timeline of events:

-In June of last year, we got the announcement that Jake Schreier would be directing Thunderbolts.

-For about a few months after that, we didn’t get really any more news. That is, until around the end of November, where this comes up:

Thunderbolts villain leaks as rumors suggest rewrites are underway

The tweets in the article mentioning rewrites for this film are from November. This coincides with Bob Chapek being ousted from Disney and Bob Iger returning.

-In mid February, we get the announcement from Bob Iger saying that the release schedule for all Marvel projects is going to be slowing down quite a bit. About a couple weeks after that announcement, we got news that Steven Yeun was cast as Sentry.

-Then, only a week and a half ago, we got the report that Lee Sung Jin, creator of Netflix series “Beef”, had been brought on to rewrite the script for Thundetbolts. This is almost perfectly timed in conjunction with the release of his series, which, from what I’ve been hearing, has been very well received and is pretty critically acclaimed. Also, worth noting, Jake Schreier, who was announced to direct this way back in June of last year, also worked on the series, and Steven Yuen, who was cast in Thunderbolts as Sentry, also plays a main role in “Beef”.

-There was a rumor from Jeff Sneider that the entire previous script had been thrown out, which would line up with the rumor of rewrites going down all the way back in November. There was also a report that filming would start in June, which means that rewrites will have been going on for about 6 to 7 months. Plenty of time to come up with a complete shooting script.

So, from what I can gather, this isn’t just a simple rewrite of someone’s previous script. They’ve completely scrapped everything and are starting entirely from scratch.

Sounds like a mess.

I still think that in the long run, there's not much Thunderbolts can bring into the MCU unlike the Fantastic 4 and X-Men. While compare to Eternals, Eternals are much more interesting to be used for future stories in the Mcu.

yeah this won’t happen in 2024…

Good freaking Lord.

How many more delays are there are going to be in the future?

Its eXtremely frustrating,as this will have a domino effect on every upcoming MCU project. If 1 is delayed, the rest is mostly likely delayed as well. Another delay for F4? When is the freaking X-Men going to come out? What if there is another pandemic or if World War 3 finally happens.... time is so precious and no one is getting younger.

Good Lord Hollywood eXecs. Give the writers what they want so we could finally move things forward quickly.

My guess is scheduling issues cause of the delays from the strikes. I think the whole reason why he came on the project was due to the guys from Beef working on this, so I don't think he's leaving due to them.

so, do they recast? or shift focus to new Villain?

I know this is nothing really new being said here but after belatedly watching the final season on Legends of Tomorrow over the Christmas/New Year time off (and wishing I hadn't really) I feel this really belongs as a D+ show if at all. I know it works for Suicide Squad on the big screen but the whole "B/C/D list hero and ex villain team up works better on TV IMHO.

came in here to see if those rumors were posted yet... not personally familiar enough with them to make any comments in those regards {I'll leave that up to those of you who know their work better}

but, still seems like an odd transition from Yeun... if anything just cause of the age difference
(it was suggested that an offer went out to at least one other actor that I've heard rumored... "Dev Patel" {again was just the rumor I heard} don't know if anything to that) which even he was a bit younger and has a very different presents then Yeun

tho, it does seem they not going for the traditional Sentry look...
he doesn't seem like the biggest guy (but, people have made some drastic changes in fit in to hero roles before) my only concern there would be that coming in as a last minute replace, they wont have as much prep time

it'll be interesting to see if we get any other names of who might have been on the lis

Given the size of all 3 of these actors, I have a feeling they're not going for the typical musclebound Superman look that comics Sentry typically has but something closer to how Jae Lee originally drew him in his first appearance.

Also just read that apparently Austin has previoysly worked with the director on Paper Towns, so that could be why he's in talks for the role.
