Paul Ryan won't comment on the President's tweets but if you call out his tax plan that favors the rich, you gotta go.

House Chaplain Who Prayed About GOP Tax Bill Fired By Paul Ryan

WASHINGTON ? House Chaplain Patrick Conroy was suddenly forced out of his job last week by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), and while it’s not clear why, Democratic lawmakers and Hill sources say it was driven by Ryan’s distaste for one of Conroy’s prayers about the GOP’s tax bill.

As first reported by The Hill, Conroy was clear in his resignation announcement that it wasn’t his choice to go. It was Ryan’s.

“As you have requested, I hereby offer my resignation as the 60th Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives,” reads Conroy’s letter to Ryan, dated April 15. Conroy, who has been the chaplain since 2011, will officially resign on May 24.

The Hill reported that four different sources ? two Democrats and two Republicans ? said Conroy was told he had to quit or he would be fired. There’s been no reason given for why he was let go, but Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) tells HuffPost that his GOP colleagues have pointed him to a prayer that Conroy made on the House floor last fall amid the debate on the GOP tax bill.

Here’s that Nov. 6 prayer, in which Conroy wishes for no “winners and losers” under the legislation. As has been reported, the tax bill greatly benefits the rich over time.

God of the universe, we give You thanks for giving us another day. Bless the Members of this assembly as they set upon the work of these hours, of these days. Help them to make wise decisions in a good manner and to carry their responsibilities steadily, with high hopes for a better future for our great Nation.

As legislation on taxes continues to be debated this week and next, may all Members be mindful that the institutions and structures of our great Nation guarantee the opportunities that have allowed some to achieve great success, while others continue to struggle. May their efforts these days guarantee that there are not winners and losers under new tax laws, but benefits balanced and shared by all Americans.

May Your blessing, O God, be with them and with us all this day and every day to come, and may all we do be done for Your greater honor and glory.

Amen.
Connolly said Republican lawmakers told him Ryan was peeved because he read that prayer as a “tilt to the Democrats” because it implied criticisms of the tax cuts being more beneficial to the rich (which they are).

“I am informed reliably by my Republican friends about this,” said the Virginia Democrat. “They cite that as evidence as that being more political than he’s comfortable with.”

Yeah, and the GOP isn't happy with it either.

Ryan's legacy is the tax plan and of course rolling over and letting Trump rape the soul of the GOP.

Paul Ryan desperately refuses to believe that his Ayn Rand philosophy contradicts The Bible. Unfortunately.....

Maybe, but the Bible for the most part promotes taking care of others and selflessness. Ayn Rand was the exact opposite of that.

Exactly, Paul Ryan's whole shtick is a lie. And not one of those... oh I was just fooling myself kind of lies. Paul Ryan genuinely believes that the best thing to do is to help the earners, and to let the rest fight for the crumbs. I think if we had him under a truth serum, he'd tell us that he knows his Ayn Rand philosophy is incompatible with the Bible, but that's okay... because Ayn Rand is his true religion while Christianity is just his pretend one.

I see this going around social media through Occupy Democrats, The Other 98%, etc. While I think John McCain is a POS, its hilarious seeing how many people believing this fake news meme.

Wait, what? :oldrazz: That sounds ridiculous. What are they referring to with the "treason" thing?

Agree or disagree with McCain as you will, but the guy's a bona fide hero. Read up on some of that Vietnam stuff, dude's ballsy as it gets.

Someone dug up the ol' Dubya primary attacks.

A very simple Google search would debunk almost every one of these actual fake news claims. Instead people would rather believe in "alternative facts" and anything that only agrees with their perspective.

Snopes

"Rumors that the Arizona senator admitted that he was a 'war criminal' and that was he pardoned by President Nixon for his crimes are not true."

Keep in mind, just about everything every Vietnam soldier had to do over there would make them a war criminal in the eyes of basically every Californian/Oregonian under like 35. :oldrazz:

That being said, of course their rumored admittal "quote" there is horse****.

Talk of Mcain betraying the US in somevway has been fashionable on the RIGHT more than the Left since the Bush admin. when he came out against "enhanced interrogation".

The Sen. has been the target of the Right even through the Obama election when he didn't go along with the "secret muslim" nonsense that is STILL a talking point and belief of a more than considerable slice of rank and file Republicans.

And yet we wonder how we got to this place where the lead Birther conspiracy theorist got elected?

It’s abundantly clear which book Ryan actually believes in, and it’s not the Bible.

And even that one, he doesn't follow all the way through.

It's not a popular opinion, but I believe that conservatism - as it is today - is based upon selfishness.

- ABORTION
Conservatives want to enforce their religious beliefs, even if the Mother disagrees. Selfish.

- ECONOMICS
Conservatives want less taxes on themselves, even if that means less tax money for schools, roads, social security, Welfare, etc. Selfish.

- FORIEGN POLICY
Conservatives prefer hard power over softpower, even if that means a first strike against an adversary. Selfish.

- IMMIGRATION
Conservatives believe that we shouldn't allow in refugees. Selfish.
Conservatives believe that we should severely limit legal immigration. Selfish.

ENTITLEMENTS
Conservatives would rather defund these programs, because they think that they encourage laziness. Selfish.
Conservatives would rather pay less taxes than insure 20 million Americans. Selfish.

RELIGION
Conservatives would like prayer back in schools. Selfish.
Conservatives want this to be a Christian nation. Selfish.

EDUCATION
Conservatives want to defund public education and move to a private/charter school approach, even though this could hurt the families most in need. Selfish.

ENVIRONMENT
Conservatives would prefer that we continue to pollute the environment, because doing otherwise would hurts business. Selfish.

I could go on and on and on. Maybe there was a reasonable conservative position back in the day... but now... all I see is a bunch of upper middle class white men trying to keep as much as they can, even at the expense of others. Morality and conservatism... in this day and age... are incompatible.

It is a combination of "**** you, got mine", racism, and religious zealotry.

What's sad is it's like every freaking issue. "**** you, got mine" should be the new GOP slogan... because... really... what else are they about besides self interest?

And then to have the gall to claim the "family values" moniker... ugh.

I've been spending time with my folks lately. They're good Christian people.. farmers just trying to get by....they don't want to hurt anyone. But I can't talk about policy.. because once that happens, they become homophobic, racist, selfish, holier than thou red hats. If I try to break though any of that... then I become the mean, awful person because I'm hurting their feelings. There's like nothing that can break through this cultural insanity right now.

I think it's more a case it's hard to say to people we will take these benefits away from you, but when you phrase it we will take it away from "them" it becomes much easier

Truly sad, because Jesus wasn't like any of that. :(

I'm proud to say that my mom read The Bible to me every night. I'm grateful, because that's where I learned the difference between right and wrong. But then to grow up and to find that the so-called good people don't follow The Bible at all... it's extremely disappointing.

And that is all a lot of Bible Thumpers do: thump the Bible without actually reading it and willfully ignoring any part of it they disagree with when confronted. It is used as a shield to hide their own ignorant or offensive beliefs that have nothing to do with religion.
