Eternals Eternals at the Box Office

I think it would have hit 30+ in a normal week, but Veterans Day burned off a couple million in what likely would have been weekend sales.
I hadn't considered that. I expected 60% plus maybe a few. Pretty normal drop.

That NA drop is slightly better than expected. Hope this keeps the Disney suits happy enough that this is an IP worth revisiting
I "think" (I don't have any inside info), a sequel is going to be necessary for this phase. There's too much ground work for there not to be one.

It's not worst case scenario and the international numbers are picking up a lot of the slack. However, I still think it's a case where they should quit while they are ahead. Not everything needs to have a sequel.

Not saying this film won’t break even or more however a film doesn’t have to flop to be a failure in the eyes of the studio. There’s been films that just simply broke even and that’s it that never received a sequel. It’s all about if the studio is confident enough that a bigger budgeted follow up/sequel will do/could do better. Instead of us deciding what is and isn’t a success, let’s let the studio/s decide. At the end of the day opening weekend doesn’t always determine success or failure it’s word of mouth and legs in general.

Glad to see the international numbers picking up the slack. Badly want a sequel!

So you confident word of mouth is good enough to warrant a sequel?

It depends how that word of mouth affects the box office for the next two weeks for me. As of now I’m not sure. I’m curious how much of an impact Ghostbusters Afterlife and Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City will have if any.

Resident Evil won't touch it because that is going to bomb itself but Ghostbusters.................yeah......I'm not sure about this getting a sequel because it seems like all Marvel movies lost money this year but I think they will appear in other movies. I just want this to fast track Silver Surfer or F4 and Xmen.......

Everyone is basically losing money or breaking even this year essentially.

You still have certain youtube channels calling eternals a flop and fell at 75% over the weekend when you look at thier titles.
They want to desperately for the eternals to fail, and in fact the mcu to fail.
They were attacking stars wars and now alot videos are attacking the mcu and disney etc..

Hmmmm I don’t think it’ll flop as Resident Evil has a big fan base and the first five movies made enough money for us to get 6 movies out of Milla Jovovich. Ghostbusters Afterlife I quite frankly don’t want to succeed unless Venkman, Ray, and Winston would be in Ghostbusters 4.

Snake Eyes gave the non fan base audience what they wanted & no one showed up. Resident Evil also has quite frankly horribly casted actors & actresses. If not even Snake Eyes can find an audience this Resident Evil wont & why are you against Ghostbusters ?

The GI Joe franchise is no where near the Resident Evil franchise. The first six movies were horribly cast too yet were successful enough. I’m not against Ghostbusters, I’m just more interested in the characters Ray, Winston, and Venkman.

I also would not call the Eternals beating a movie about a dog a positive thing when the second weekend drop is 75 % & it is only gonna get worse next week & after

You could be right, we’ll see.

The next set of movies that will be guaranteed making money are Ghostbusters / Spider-Man / The Matrix

The only one of those guaranteed to make money in my opinion is Spider-Man. Many people have not forgotten hating Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. I think Ghostbusters 2 and 2016 killed any interest in the franchise from the general audience.

If people cared about previous bad movies stuff like James Bond & Batman & even Star Wars would not be making money in current times. There is always room for redemption

James Bond, Batman, and Star Wars are exceptions. The Matrix and Ghostbusters are just not on the same level. I’m a fan of both but it is what it is. We’ll see.

In the end even the general audience just wants good movies that respect the franchise & characters they love. Same level or not they have their own big enough fan bases & in the end as long as these movies avoid the usual Hollywood BS the fans will come out & support it

We’ll see what the public decides. The fans alone are honestly probably not enough.

That is a good point about not everything needing a sequel. The Matrix was such a phenonon but after that 2nd movie in the trilogy, it dropped off. Look at the big drop off of box office between 2&3. I look back and think maybe that series should've just stayed 1 movie.?

If Eternals gets another film I kinda wonder if they will bring in a new director and writer like they did Captain Marvel. I like Eternals(I gave it a higher score on my 2nd watch) but idk if the general audience is gonna eat up a sequel of these characters immediately. My guess is they should have them show up in other Marvel solo's first, develop them more & then build up for a sequel that people are anticipating. But hey, I'm just a peasant who watches these movies, not a Marvel studios executive so idk if my opinion is all that great lol.

Would you rather be a Snake Eyes or a Sonic ? Snake Eyes that had NO audience & alienated the fan base. Or Sonic that did right by fans & because of the positive word of mouth AFTER THE FANS SAW IT the public got behind it

Snake Eyes was a bad movie in general that failed to connect with the public, simple as that. Sonic did well because of the general public mostly. The audience mostly spreads positive word of mouth to non nerds. The public don’t care about us nerds in general lol.

The Matrix is 50 / 50 right now but Ghostbusters could very well be another Sonic situation where it was the fans that made that one a success & the media & critics are ignored once again

The Matrix is 50/50 how?

Who would see something like Sonic first ? The Sonic fans thats who & what got Sonic fans in the theater & gave it a chance ? The Studio & Director listening to Sonic fans. Who spread the word of mouth after seeing the movie ? The sonic fans[/QUOTE

As a video game nerd myself you’re giving fans way too much credit for the film’s success. Sonic was an entertaining looking family movie.

Sonic does not does what it does without the fans. Some people just dont wanna see the Eternals get busted next week

I respectfully disagree about Sonic’s success. I’d be ok if Eternals got busted. I have no stake in this either way.

Here is another point of view.

ThgzNdHgz2 quote-
ETERNALS was never meant to be a sure "blockbuster." All indications point to Marvel/MCU/Kevin Feige overloading Eternals for the purpose of being a key movie to reference in the MCU future as it will be a SIGNIFICANT movie to Phase 4-5.
The story of the MCU Celestials-Eternals-Deviants opens up the cosmic storyline with Galactus/Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock, Abstract Entities, and possibly FF, mutants, and - yes - Infinity Stones origin.
Fiege is a brilliant Master Psychological Strategist. He is a phenomenon beyond the best of Hollywood producers. Expect 100+ of Easter eggs imbedded in Eternals that will hatch in upcoming MCU and add lore to previous MCU. I have learned NEVER to underestimate "FIEGIOLOGY" long-term cohesive focus imbedded in each MCU movie and TV shows.

You really think Resident Evil will do well at the box office?! :funny::funny: No way! But I guess we will find out this weekend.

It only has a budget of 40M and the fanbase for that game series is huge. I don't think it will flop either.
