Hawkeye Episode 5: Ronin (Spoiler Discussion)

When Yelena mentioned the new and improved Statue of Liberty was she referring to the mod they show in NWM?
I believe so. No Way Home apparently also has Rogers the Musical so it seems like there actually was some communication both ways here.

Thought the episode was great, probably neck and neck with episode 3 for me. The "girls night" scene with Yelena and Kate was probably my favorite scene in the whole episode. Just loved the interaction between the 2 of them.

Good to finally see Kingpin revealed, even if it was only an image. And it seems like my theory about Kingpin about wanting Maya's dad dead was correct as well.

That's a nice touch on the title shot.

Agreed. Wasn't expecting to see a change with the credits but then that silhouette pops up at the end. :hyper:

Listen, it's nice to finally see D'Onofrio's Kingpin officially in the MCU and the Grinch song playing right after the reveal was hilarious, but this episode belonged to Florence Pugh. I already fell in love with Yelena in Black Widow but her scene with Kate was just perfect. I hope this show is far from the last time we'll be seeing those two together.

This was definitely one of the best episodes so far, the only problem I had was them randomly showing Yelena's cold open before the "Previously On" recap.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the big guy in action in the finale, as well as more Yelena and hopefully that Laura Barton backstory.

They should have played the Jim Carrey version in the credits.
The post credits scene should have been Kingpin's car door scene from DD S1 with the Jim Carrey version playing over it. :o

Man I feel like if they stick the landing, this will be my favourite Marvel show this year. Also pls Marvel a Kate/Yelena series or movie when?

I didn’t like the Kingpin reveal. I would have preferred seeing Eleanor on the phone with him or something—would have had a bigger impact (IMO). However, I agree with everyone’s sentiments that this was Yelena’s episode and I’m sure we’ll be seeing her with Kate and other young Avengers sometime in the future.

I suspect they're positioning Kate/Yelena to be the new Clint/Natasha of the MCU moving forward. Clint said the "best shot he ever took" was actually the one he didn't take against Natasha, and the two became best friends. Similarly, Kate didn't take her shot against Yelena.

Is the internet broken yet? No?

Honestly, the best thing about this episode was how awesome Florence Pugh is. We all saw Kingpin coming from a mile away, and the reveal wasn't exactly great.

Is D'Onofrio wearing prosthetics or something? I know the image itself is low res, but something seems off with his face.

Best episode of the series for me so far. Yelena was the one who made it the best (the reveal at the end was also up there but let’s face it, we all saw it coming). I’m going to be rewatching that Kate and Yelena scene a lot on YouTube. I was both intimidated and slightly turned on by her veiled threats.

OH MY GOD!

That episode was nuts from start to finish. The Yelena cold open which showed the snap/blip and how it seemed simultaneous for her and her realizing Natasha is no longer around.

I'll Echo what everyone else was saying about the scene between Kate and Yelena...that was some great stuff. Both of them kind of sticking up for their heroes was cool too. I'm not sure I'll be hungry for Mac and Cheese anytime soon though :funny:

I'm actually a little more interested in an Echo spin-off now as well. I like her (former) #2 guy, Kingpin should be in it and not to mention maybe Matt Murdock?

I know people were upset about the Kingpin reveal, but I still thought it was great. If we didn't see it coming or didn't have a feeling Eleanor hired Yelena, etc it'd be a different story.

ALSO: HE IS BACK, BABY!

I said the mom had to be involved in some way since Jack was just way too easy from the start. Not sure how they wrap this up, additional seasons seems likely. I guess that was the end of Echo in this series unless she appears to help in the next.

I didn't love the Kingpin reveal either, but other than that I actually quite loved this episode overall. It is ridiculous to me how great Florence Pugh has been in this series so far.

She is absolutely killing it man and this episode just made me love Yelena even more. Also, I am fully down for a spinoff movie or show with her and Kate Bishop talking about food and exploring NYC lol.

This episode and the last one had like the perfect balance of drama and humor for me which is what I've been wanting from the beginning and how dope was that Ronin/Mya fight?

I am actually very excited for next week's episode and seeing Kingpin in all his glory and I hope they are able to pull it off and end this show on a strong note because that's what its looking like.

It was a good episode even though I thought the Jonathan Majors reveal at the end of Loki was better.

Of the new characters we have been introduced to, like Kate or Shang-Chi and such, Yelena I think is my favorite. She was the best part of Black Widow, and again was aces here. Love this character.

The show has grabbed me since about the 3rd episode after a slow start. Now things are ramping up with Yelena. I've been wanting to see more of her and we got good material here. I loved the blip scene. It feels like we haven't seen enough of the impact this would have on people who disappeared themselves and this was very well done.

The Yelena and Kate Bishop dinner scene is m favorite of the series so far, Pugh/Yelena can go from funny to serious and blend the two so well. I would probably watch any series she appears in.
It was fun. I hope they are both here in the MCU for a very long time now and get to share more scenes together.

I really liked it too. I'm all about revisiting that aspect because it's still the most significant event to happen in the entire MCU. It was cool to see confirmation about what happened to Yelena during the snap, even though it was kind of implied in the post-credits scene of Black Widow and just the fact that such a catastrophic event would have undoubtedly drawn her to seek out Natasha if she hadn't gotten dusted. I can only assume that Alexei and Melina died in the snap as well otherwise Natasha probably would have sought them out too but we may never get confirmation on that.

So basically John Walker is working for Kingpin? Because he was hired by Val, who hired Yelena, who is also working for Eleanor Bishop.

I'm hoping for some Yelena-centric material at some point, whether a show or film. If we get that maybe it will be covered there. And yes, I guess we'll see more instances of how the blip affected various characters like this and I'm glad they aren't instantly moving on from it as if it's old news.

If the MCU didn't have as much going on as they currently do I think another Black Widow film with Pugh taking over would be more of a guarantee. As it is, it's entirely possible down the line but I think the main plan for Yelena right now is to make her one of the leads of whatever inevitable Young Avengers project they have in the works.

I wonder if they're positioning Kingpin as being the MCU equivalent to Norman Osborn in the comics.

The moment we all waited for is here. Loved this episode!

Wasn't much of a moment or payoff.

Also:

"Natasha and Laura. I'm sorry for what I'm about to do. I'm about to put a Ronin costume back on and try to scare people into not coming after me anymore. Yeah, that's gonna work."
