Fantastic Four General News & Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS)

Daniel Craig would not be a horrible choice for Victor Von Doom tbh - as long as he can pull off a "Latverian" accent - whatever that sounds like - a Romani accent methinks

"The Prince of Latveria" Disney+ series would be interesting and a way to build up Doom. However, sometimes it is better to keep a character's mystique/aura of mystery about them, because it is more alluring (see Boba Fett before Book of Boba Fett)

Yes. Absolutely, and I’ve made a similar comparison to Darth Vader and Anakin in the prequels.

BUT that’s why I would have some very specific rules. First off, with Doom, I would make sure we established him as the ultimate bad guy before we ever saw his backstory.

And then, my idea of combining it with the FF would prevent over-exposure. We could just get glimpses of him while devoting more screen time to the others.

And even as a child, I wouldn’t make Doom feel like a child. He wouldn’t be sad and lonely and afraid when his mother died. He’d be angry that she was taken from him.

When 10 year old Victor is confronted by gun-wielding Latverian soldiers, we should feel fear for what will happen to the soldiers, not the 10 year old.

I’d model young Doom more on Damien than Anakin.

I think Marvel should hire you as a consultant

:funny: I would offer my services for free just to see the FF properly portrayed just once before I die.
I've been reading your posts this past week and I gotta say I doubt you're going to love the MCU's FF. You seem to be an FF fan but none of the AWESOME teases that came out of MoM have you excited. I've been reading FF since the 80s. I am a hardcore fan. All of this made me explode with excitement:

The MCU's first live action intro to the Fantastic Four came in the middle of a MASSIVE summer movie with the fandom's most wanted man for the job playing Reed Richards.

838 Reed is introduced as the world's smartest man by 838 Mordo.

838 Reed Richards said the word "Incursion." multiple times.

838 Reed Richards led his universe's answer to The Avengers into battle.

The writer of the film revealed 838 Reed was inspired by Hickman's run.

All of that was GOLD to a hardcore fan like myself.

I can't wait for the MCU FF film. MoM was a great teaser for the awesomeness that's coming. While there's various eras of the comics to love I'd say 90% of FF fans today love Hickman's run. So it makes sense for Waldron & Feige drawing from that run when bringing the FF to the MCU.

When you say you want to see the FF "properly portrayed" I suspect you mean portrayed to your liking. My advice to you is keep an open mind to the possibility that this MCU's take on the FF won't be catered to you specifically. Otherwise yeah, I don't think you're gonna love it.

I’ll be happy with anything that’s reasonably good and faithful.

I haven’t gotten that since Stan Lee teased their “Big Budget FF Film” in the mid seventies.

After 50 years of teasing, I don’t find teasing satisfying anymore and I want something substantial.

But I’ll be VERY happy with something that is reasonably good and faithful.

I mean there is campy and then there are faithful comic book adaptations that are more grounded - whether it is the original FF run in the 60s or the more modern runs such as Hickman's. I trust Feige for the 616 FF at least not the 838 lol

I totally biased, but I want to see some early, 60s FF comic movies. I hope the recent events mean that we will see The Inhumans (and I don't have to put the series out of my mind because I didn't see it). From a movie perspective, I think that could be among the best FF movies to be made and maybe lead to a rehab of the Inhumans because they really are some interesting characters.

Do you mean set in the ‘60s or influenced/based on Lee/Kirby?

I hope there’s a strong Lee/Kirby influence (since everything after them was based on what they created), but I want a modern setting (though I’m open to retro if done right).

But while I’d like the Lee/Kirby influence, I’d like a gestalt that takes elements from all 60+ years. The best elements over that span are consistent in themes and characters.

What makes absolutely no sense to me was Fox’s reliance on Ultimate FF which was one tiny non-representative moment in time that changed things just to change things.

I don't want it set in the 60s and I think that ship has sailed (not gonna happen). I want to see that storyline in a movie.

 I think a big part of Fox’s problem is they didn’t have the imagination to use the old stories and bring them up to date (but I think the old stories used such simple, timeless elements that it’s not really that tough for a talented writer).

I think Fox looked at Ultimate FF and said “Okay, this is modern. People don’t wear hats or make sexist comments. Galactus is a swarm instead of a purple giant. We can work with this.”

One idea I do like is to set the stage for FF in a D+ series or 2. Doom, in particular, could be really interesting. Inhumans could have been that, but, from what I've heard, it was about as good as Fant4stic.....wouldn't know because I refused to see either and don't think I made a mistake. I don't need to see something I can't unsee.

I would love to see a Doom D+ series based on Book of Doom that provides his backstory at some point. Not where I want him introduced, but in a few years I think it would be an excellent series

But they DID have Kinberg......

I think it could work either way.

While we're talking about things we want, here's one I think is a no-brainer and would get the crowds SCREAMING. As an end credits scene to MCU Fantastic Four, have Reed
(Krasinski)
transport himself to a super advanced lab somewhere where six men stand around a table. An older man at the head of the table says to him "took you long enough." The men then get close-up reveals, one by one. Five are wearing different variations of the FF suits with different designs of the "4" symbol on their respective chests. The sixth man is wearing a suit.

The men around the table:

1. The older man who greeted 616 Reed is Alex Hyde-White.
2. Ioan Gruffoud
3. Miles Teller
4. Jonathan Majors
5. John Krasinski (clean shaven, wearing a white Future Foundation suit)
6. Mads Mikkelsen (wearing a navy blue two-piece suit with a "4" lapel pin)

Alex Hyde-White then says "Let the Council of Reeds commence session."

Cut to black.

I don’t know how credible it is, but I read recently they’re working on an Inhumans reboot for Disney +.

I’d love to see them tie such an effort to the FF by either introducing the Inhumans in an FF film prior to the series, or having some FF characters guest starring in the series.

That wasn’t an option with the first series, but is now.

I have some casting ideas for Lockjaw. I think there are pluses and minuses for each.
