People with financial stakes in the film's success are the last I would be listening to.
Can imagine them saying that it’s horrific and whatever you do, don’t come to us and pay us to see it.

Didn’t exhibitors go nuts over Top Gun Maverick? I never expected that movie to be the runaway hit it was last year. I expected it to have a big opening and drop off big time, but it kept playing and playing.

Not saying The Flash will be in that ballpark but most of the time exhibitors have a good idea of what will be a hit.

Me at that first showing:

On one hand, well done. On the other hand, eat popcorn like a normal human being, you chopsticks-wielding monster.

The reviews for The Flash seem like it's merely enjoyable if a bit long. I would pay attention to how exhibitors went nuts over it rather than skeptical and hardened critics.

Historically, I've agreed more with the professional critics when it comes to reviews instead of the exhibitors (or audience response for that matter).

Exhibitors being all over it at a special preview screening that ended with hyperbolic praise does not seem like a ringing endorsement against critics. The critical reception seems about in line with what I expected, though some of the specific negatives I see recurring through reviews are a big red flag for me.

A few more Flash reviews have come in. It might just stay fresh:

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in watching The Flash on opening weekend.” - Nelson Mandela

“In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the number of times you see The Flash in theaters.” - Abraham Lincoln

"May you live all the days of your life watching The Flash on repeat." - Jonathan Swift

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are watching The Flash.” - Oscar Wilde

We all judge for ourselves how we feel about a movie. But the idea that critics are somehow "anti-movie" or that using them as barometer is the worst possible thing, has always made me roll my eyes. Do I disagree with critics? Plenty. But more often then not, I feel like I agree. My biggest disagreement with them this year, is they were too soft on that terrible Mario movie.

Haven't seen it.

You may disagree with critics or agree with them. I tend to agree with them far more often than not, but not always. I've liked panned movies and disliked praised ones. That's going to happen, especially when talking thousands of movies. But I definitely don't think they are hacks or acting on an agenda or anything like that, and generally I feel they have a lot more insight on the medium in general than the average joe.

Except for Grace Randolph. :o
