The Amazing Spider-Man Amazing Spidey Video Game Thread. - - - - - - Part 15

Yeah, bring back combos! I'm actually hoping the next non-Arkham Batman does have combos. Free flow is fun and really nice to look at, but nothing is more satisfying than executing a 5-button combo on a dude's ass.

Wanted to play a good Spider-Man game, instead I played Web of Shadows:huh:
At least it has great swinging, and a great swing kick
I understand why they used that swinging system for TASM, and there's another reason they didn't explain, but I understand how it might hinder indoor swinging a bit with the design time they have, but man is it draining not to have proper control when it comes to swinging

On that note, here's something I thought about.
This last "movie" game was ok, but not spectacular or particularly deep in its mechanics. When the developers talked about it, I remember them saying they would have made Peter's apartment interactive, which to an extent they did, but that comes down to a simple wardrobe with costumes and level selection. We didn't get to really "mend" our costume, rest, restore stamina or all the things that were rumored about. Some skills you could unlock were almost unnecesary to me, I felt like most moves should have been available to him from the start.
It was pretty underwhelming to me, actually. I am aware that Activision shouldn't be trusted at this point, but still, I really wished for a great game for the webhead.

Wouldn't it have been better if they just made Spidey swing around the Queens area only, much like in the first part of the movie, or like the first section of The ultimate spider-man game? That way, they could have implemented a grounded swinging system, similar to Spider-Man 2 the movie game, they could have actually make you feel like you ARE attached to something and that there's danger and some effort involved in doing so. They could have focused on that area, instead of having to poorly render a huge city like NY. They could have easily made enemies and stuff re-spawn, made them different and challenging as the game progressed.

Oh, and am I the only one bummed by the fact that we can't see Peter's face once throurought the entire game? Ugh.
Really, it's a game based on a movie where Peter had more screen-time than Spidey. A Peter Parker skin would have been nice. The fact they wanted to make you feel like you are Spider-man and went for the first-person wiew sounded like a poor and lazy excuse to me.

Excuse my rambling, I've been wanting to talk about this for some time and I finally got that out of my chest. What do you think?

I agree about not showing Peter's face being a bummer, but if they added one more face it could have cost them more money and cause more glitches, which is a sad possibility with Activision

When it comes to danger they made him hang on webs to save himself, but when they said he makes a web net I was looking forward to something he rests on to cushion his fall

As for Queens, the threat was focused in Manhattan, the story had to stay there. And to my dismay and dislike to say this; Web of Shadows did right what Beenox didn't when it comes to putting a city in quarantine, they placed barricades and destroyed a bridge

Well yeah, it had to be set in Manhattan, but still, that plot wasn't THAT exciting for several reasons:

The infection storyline was indeed done better with Web of Shadows, which I played not too long ago (that game has lot of issues when it comes to characters though).

Resorting to mechanical enemies, robots and stuff was weak. I can't believe they couldn't come up with human enemies, with Spidey's rogue gallery being so vast!
Nearly every boss battle has Spidey facing a mindless enemy or a feral beast.
Props to them for including some villain cameos (Mr. Negative's one comes to mind) but still that came off more like a tease to me and it felt frustrating. Gimme human villains to beat up! :oldrazz:

So yeah, I'm wondering if coming up with a grounded plot would have made for a better game overall.

Alistair was the only villain with some motivation...
On a side note, it's funny how once you beat the game, you unlock the equivalent to Man-Spider. It's almost as if they implied that he was right and that spidey too could have become a menace for the city if it wasn't for whatever his blood contains :spidey:
Maybe I'm reading too much into that and they didn't even mean it, but I thought that little detail was clever.

For the sake of the story some of this was understandable, the robots part
Why keep the cross-species mindless, even monster Lizard when he was talking in the movie is a pretty bad move

Agreed with the rest of what you said

I wanted a Peter Parker skin bad.

Has anyone figured out to go POV mode?

Hold down R2, don't let go and Spidey will do his Web Rush in POV.

It's been a while im not to sure on the conrtrols, so give it a try

I don't like PoV mode, glad it never worked for me

i felt they went a little overboard with escorting the infected people side missions
way too many of them

Haha indeed, I hated most of the side missions. They were way too easy and monotonous.

My word why would you buy this on the Wii

I didn't buy it for Wii, I saw a walkthrough to see the difference
I have the PC version

Personally I love the new combat system found in ASM and I really hope that Beenox keeps it for the next game. Adding a few more combos to the mix on top of that system would be awesome but I would prefer to keep the free flow based combat.

Someone on a another forum posted a neat idea to include more ways to use the webbing. First, this requires the removal of the 'Web Rush Retreat' (L1) which is something I felt really didn't need to be included anyway. If you needed a quick escape all you had to do is enter the Slow-mo Web Rush (Hold R1) and you could pick a perch point to move out of harms way. So, basically the control scheme for the webbing would be something like this:

L1 + Triangle = Weapon disarm
L1 + Square = Create a web net either for defensive or offensive moves
L1 + X = Web shot to face to blind enemies
L1 + Circle = web multiple enemies at the same time

And of course, Circle would still be used for standard web shots.

I do agree that Beenox should have created some more interesting boss fights however ASM was a licensed game and there was a ton of red tape. I read a great article on the difficulties that they had with the production of this game and the number one issue was the wait time. All the villains had to be preapproved by both Sony and Marvel as well as their back stories and designs. Beenox would come up with an idea and then have to wait for an answer back from both Sony and Marvel. According to that article there was a lot of downtime waiting for those two to agree on an idea and give the go-ahead to Beenox to start the production on whichever choices they made. However, with all that downtime Beenox was able to create the very awesome WebRush mode and was something that they spent a lot of time creating; going thru several iterations and almost decided to cut it from the game at one point.

I'd prefer they keep it to this film adaption series

It's best after the upgrade for more time during web rush, without that upgrade it's hard

Another thing I forgot to mention, I hope they will make Spidey able to dodge bullets with the next game.

Me too. I missed that a lot in past games.

I was just thinking...and there are no news for another Spidey game so far.
Maybe we really won't have another one for 2013?

This game did a lot right, but they should smooth out the combat animation, and make the web rush more dynamic and not like he's jumping on the moon with no realistic momentum

Hopefully none, gonna be best to have them focus on one game to release in 2014
I miss dodging bullets as well

I'm actually kind of tired of this swinging:

I hope that in the next game you can actually chose what type of swinging style. I actually liked the kind of swinging the indoor places. It's just that when your webs go nowhere it's pretty boring. I actually wouldn't mind

The Video Game. It would be a nice reinvention for the new generation consoles.

I haven't played this game in a while. It was ok at first but the swing system is so frustrating. It feels like the game is playing for me. I also wish that the web system was better than what it was. I think it's dumb that we can only fire web bullets and not have different types of webbing. Like thick, thin strand, spaghetti, web net, etc.

Also the combat system and upgrades were not that great. Actually...the combat was better than previous games with the rumble features but it was not as exciting and satisfying as Arkham City is. I also which that they would implement costumes that actually do what they do in the comics. It's so boring playing as the scarlet spider and then not being able to use impact webbing.

I Agree! What the next Spider-man game needs is some variety!

Yes! Variety in different areas like combat, mechanics(like being able to run again like sp2),more poses when swinging, all those special moves and jumps from sp2,better upgrades, more tech based gadgets...etc.

I also like the idea of the web rush. I like bouncing from place to place with the real time version of web rush but there was something missing. I hated how I couldn't do my own real time movements like jumping in between or swinging on a pole etc. They are restricting him too much.
